Every random lobby I join summed up in a GIF. At this rate I'm going to get a ban hammer for cutie mark in necromancy.

I've been thinking of trying this sometime. How much could it be compared to the likes of Dungeon Siege 1 and 2?

Not like Dungeon Siege 1. Only remotely like DS2 because DS2 is more of a Diablo-like compared to DS1 being a party-based tactics RPG.
PoE is more like a much faster Titan Quest / Grim Dawn in terms of general gameplay and with most elements being its own twist on typical conventions.
Its character building mechanics coincidentally happen to be comparable to two different Final Fantasy games. Skills are contained in gems that you can freely add to and remove from sockets on your worn equipment. All classes can access the skills in these gems, the gems level up with their own XP bars to become more powerful and you can augment the skills bu socketing them together with support gems in linked sockets. The Passive Skill Tree is a large grid of circles and connected dots that you branch out through, starting on different locations on it based on which class you pick.

Merciless? In any case, thanks for elaborating! For sure this'll be something to keep on the radar following Mass Effect -- it's been awhile since I sunk hours into this kind of RPG, what with skill trees being especially enticing.

If you want to do well solo research your build going in; it'll help you out a lot in both Cruel difficulty and onwards. Otherwise you gon' die... a lot.

Rerollaholic? I've only have two characters - a Templar and Shadow. That's not including the Duelist I had months ago when I first tried the game.

Mice can't have pets because they are pets.

Unless they're big bugs- then they can take that totem pole and use it as a bridge. (Art by Raymond Swanland)

pets can have pets. theres like a whole fetish based around that. Neopets had Petpets. And I'm pretty sure Petpetpets were added eventually.

I'm playing. I'm going to go Incinerate/Lightning based Witch. Rerolling a character so I can get the setup to go merciless.

Aaaaaand I'm level 59, with a Saffel's Flame, Infernal Mantle and Apep's Rage. Incinerate build is alsmost ready, after I get 6 slots, fill out my resistances and level my gems I'll be tip top.

Copy a build, do that several times for completely different characters until you can somewhat navigate the skill tree. It's not that complicated imo when you realise that each character is a skill branch in itself, and that the character's skill trees are connected together. It's not a skill tree, it's a skill copse, that's 8 character's skill trees all up.

TIL I can do lvl 72 maps with no mana or health regen and not give a flying fuck. Did make the duo Aphyxia boss with perma freeze pretty gosh darn golly gee whiz interesting though. I also yoloed it with temporal chains.

Made a new character, gave her a kickass name (Orryne) and she's level 64 now, on a tornado shot build. Shotguns are fun, more so with a bow and arrow. Currently working towards a drillneck, and the 74% crit rat's nest that has only a paltry 2 dps on my 73% rat's nest has to go for an exalt so I can have more fun with a drillneck. I could get one now if I scrapped my incinerator, but that's a bad idea I think.

Drillneck is amazing, I changed a faster attacks skill gem (TS GMP more attack damage) for pierce, and though I have 700 less dps, what I gain is amazing clear speed... I crit and pierce everything melts. Going to craft a ruby ring with lightning res and mana leech, refund some nodes leading to mana leech and get more pierce on the tree as a stopgap until my pierce gem is 20/20. Then I'll work on getting a 320-350 dps bow with 5 links as the next goal.
Seriously though the Tornado shot build is dirty as, crits = a sizeable shatter aoe everywhere + every kill you can ignite other things for the overkill damage so the damage in a close group is really applied and then reapplied in one shot.

My tornado shot ranger and incinerator both got crushed by this. Oh my god, lag was the true enemy today.

-60% and yeah I found out that this is the 2nd hardest boss if you have no chaos resist. Which I don't. If I was on hardcore I'd research the bosses, but I had just levelled on the tornado and I have no experience on the incinerator either so I wasn't losing exp.

Yeah man 1 +1 and it's like you don't have to give a shit about what a build costs unless you go into like 6l shavs. I did it for the yolo though.
