Of course, things will likely get pretty quiet between the close of beta this weekend and release in Sept.

The game seems popular enough that it could manage its own subforum honestly, at least if shit like BF has one. Proposal: Combine the two BF subforums and put them where titanfall is. Then put a TF and Destiny subforum over where battlefield is. Does this place even have mods except den.

Is there any sort of indication of a member being a mod?

Boards aside I found a blue rare item for the first time today. Of course it's level 10, but it shows that you can upgrade the helmet with Sapphire Wire. So it looks like certain items will allow a crafting-like element to the game. I'm guessing weapons will use weapon parts from deconstructed weapons

Over at Bungie.net clan page, Hawk started a thread talking about clan tag lines. Clan mates: please chime in . At this point we can either talk about it in this thread, or on the forum over there: www.bungie.net/en/Clan/Forum/135557Hawk proposed "Grinding for glimmer". IMHO we should maintain Den's signature, with Destiny focused slight modification, say "You are my bro, guardian". While we are at it, let's also discuss clan name. I'll start with my 2 cents first, how about "Band of Den bros" The clan name was originally "Den Kirson Forums," but it would only display "Den Kirson For" in game. 14 characters or less for clan names. This thread is too crowded to talk about clan settings at the moment. So for the time being I took the liberty and made the following display settings changes: 1) Group/clan name: "Den Forum Bros". Exactly 14 characters, should fit properly in the in-game display; 2) Group/clan tag line: "You are my bro, guardian". These are temporary until we come up with something cooler

I think he meant how the port looks for both generation of consoles rather than the matchmaking. Yeah. I was not talking about cross gen play. What I mean is progress preserved cross generations in the same console family. Played a few minutes on X360, notes: 1) Progress are saved perfectly across X360/XONE. This basically means that all progress are saved on the server side and they are tied to XBL gamertag (and in PSN case, PSN Id). As a result, no matter which XONE/X360 console you use to play Destiny, as long as you sign in with the same gamer tag, you'll pick up exactly where you left in the last gaming session; 2) Graphics on X360 definitely looks much inferior than XONE. On the bridge side: game play feels exactly the same. So last gen players can still enjoy the game to great extent as long as they are OK with less pretty graphics.

Ima need my XB1 Fireteam on at 2 PM PST! I will definitely be on Saturday I am going to play from 10am to 5-6pm, and whole day Sunday. Here is one potential dilemma though: what to play at 2pm on Saturday, Crucible or the Moon mission? Hmm... Anybody know how long the moon mission will be available? I hope that it will be available from 2pm tomorrow to the end of beta. I really want to spend some time in Crucible. Outside Iron Banner only 2 maps are playable, so the best time to play Crucible is during Iron Banner. I already missed all the events on Friday, and on Saturday I am only available at 10am and 2pm...

I'm pretty sure on that update you posted it said only two hours! yup. Confirmed: " This new destination will be open to you for two hours." I'll play Crucible with you at 10 PM Iron Banner opening if you do moon mission at 2PM

I'll play Crucible with you at one of the later Iron Banner openings if you do moon mission at 2PM Oh crap. I'll have to play this mission at 2pm then. Can't quite understand the reasoning behind Bungie's scheduling: 1) Why do Iron Banner on Friday and Saturday instead of Saturday and Sunday?! 2) Why schedule Iron Banner and Moon mission at the same time?!! 3) Why not just open all 4 maps?!!! I suspect that they did this mysterious setup for some data collection reasons...

We can still do the 10AM iron banner.
I'm interested to know their reasoning too. I know they changed shop prices and spinmetal trade-in value from alpha. I'm thinking this is to gauge player behavior in the face of decision-making.
Or they could be lazy schedule makers.

OK, here is our schedule 1) 10am: Iron Banner 2) 2pm: play moon mission on hard settings, complete the mission to the end. Hopefully this takes < 30 minutes 3) play the mission again. But before getting to the final fight, we will just roam around for some exploration; 4) we may still have 30-60 minutes to play Iron Banner a bit more

New member here, been lurking on the cod board for a while. Haven't read every comment yet but here's some random thoughts. I saw some people wondering about shotguns for pvp, how stuff scale and so on. For shottie in crucible, pick the one with highest impact rating. I replaced a high attack green shottie with a white that had higher impact. Difference was night and day. (Impact = damage per shot) Many AR's are very different from COD. Low range, spans from laserbeam to holy-shit recoil. Some of them have horrible accuracy, to the point where I struggled to land a single shot on a stationary target across the map. Scout rifle is awesome in PvE, I've struggled with it in PvP but might be a balancing issue or lack of skill on my part. Shingen 3 is the best allround AR for crucible, hands down. Low RoF, high damage, AN-94ish. My main complaint atm is warlock novabomb quadfeeds. Leveling warlock now (I'm rubthisway on PS4, if anyone wants to join me on the moon later on)

Oh and, is it just me or is hipfire REALLY effective in this game? Is that a Halo carryover?

PvP doesn't seem to be the focus though. I'll save any overall opinions until the full game. The missions themselves seemed to be very underwhelming though. Go in, shoot that, kill that, done.

Yeah CoD basically gimps hipfire so that players are using the sights a lot more, which also makes them more stationary while shooting except for SMG's with their high maneuverability and shotguns with their more or less lack of any need to use ADS, (except for counter-intuitively tightening your spread... I hate that... it's a stupid mechanic that only profits tryhard research monkeys... like us. >,> )
Anyway, yeah hipfire in Destiny seems pretty decent with the possible exception of the sniper rifle, but I'm not sure on that. I haven't really tried hipfiring it, just noticed there's no crosshair and didn't bother.
I wouldn't know about Crucible, though. Prolly gonna focus on getting my third character to level 8 before I try it then get the best weapons I can and go for it.
BTW is it just me or is it actually kinda pointless having different inventories for all three characters? Do any of you actually prefer different weapons on different classes? The weapons themselves seem to function the same. So it's not at all like an RPG in that aspect. Other than level differences I don't see any reason not to just put all my best gear on whichever class I'm playing at the time... (Though it'll be tedious having to visit the vault every time I log in or out unless I don't switch characters... though I tend to go to the tower before I log out anyway. Really wish they had just merged the tower and orbit... there's currently not point to orbit other than to see our pretty ships.)
On the other hand... Something I'm hoping may come in a future expansion... I mentioned this to my brother, but in some ways Bungie's last Halo game (Reach) was a chance for them to prototype some ideas, which seems logical. Scout rifles pretty much are DMR's with some stat variations, and they tried out character customization (though in some ways Reach did it better) and some other things, ect. Well, one thing that strikes me about Destiny is how prominent the ships actually are for a game that is 100% an FPS and it makes me think if another feature from Reach might someday make it's way to Destiny as an expantion... namely, space fighter combat. Now I know all the Reach haters will likely groan and roll their eyes, but personally I loved the space missions in Reach. They reminded me a lot of Wing Commander and Colony Wars. I played those missions multiple times and really wished there were more of them or even an entire game. Well Bungie could do one better and incorporate it as an expansion to Destiny the same way Star Wars Galaxies added space combat to it's MMO, and I think SWtOR has something like it as well? (Have barely played it.) Anyway, I for one would love that. Especially if they added a good bit of ship customization and integrated it into the whole game. I would love to go on missions on land to acquire better weapons for my ship and vice versa. Plus it might actually give some point to going to orbit... though I still wish they would just move some of the tower features like the vault to orbit, or move orbit features to the tower and let us go their directly after a mission. Having a load screen to get to a glorified menu and still having another load screen to go sucks.
We need to start some sort of campaign to let Bungie know that orbit sucks. ;3

Compared to CoD, pretty much every shooter on the planet has fantastic hipfire. I think Gears of War has worse hipfire, which might explain me not helping myself in Crucible. That and using useless shotguns, ffs.

Im slightly underwhelmed ,graphics dont seem a massive leap and PvP is just Halo , no bad thing but i was expecting something else , anyone else ? As for the graphics I think part of that is a deliberate art style and part of it is Bungie deciding to go with a centralized art pipeline that probably allows them to automate a lot of the differences for the 4 (and eventually 5) different builds of the game. They probably have built in tools for generating lower poly meshes and lower resolution textures and probably build mostly to the tools specifications rather than trying to individually push the graphics on every platform independently. Personally I'm okay with it. The game is beautiful even if it is not the most advanced graphics out there. (My brother keeps telling me to get the new Killzone for that.) I also think that eventually, when the 360 and PS3 versions are less important that Bungie will probably update the graphics either through gradual iterations, expansions, or maybe a full blown sequel. (Though I'm not expecting a full on sequel for at least four or five years, Bungie wants Destiny to be a game played for the long haul, not a yearly update like CoD.)

I haven't played the new Infamous or Killzone titles so I don't really know where the baseline is. However, I think the lighting and atmospheric effects are very impressive, subtle particle use everywhere, volumetric clouds, close to photoreal running water etc etc. All this at a rock solid framerate.

Missions have been okay IMO. Nothing super special, but a bit more than just a corridor with things to shoot. You go in with an objective and kill everything in your way, activate ghost and listen to digital Peter Dinklage give you some lore, then usually you have a new objective and kill your way to that, then you fight a boss and his friends. Each of the bosses so far have been pretty different. This is all fairly low level as well especially considering most of those bosses are mere minibosses in higher level missions and areas. Also the strike mission is a bit more varied. I rather like fighting that spidertank thing, though it's not a difficult fight.
I expect a bit more mission variety from missions we don't have access to as well. Though my favorite mode is probably the free roam. I like having a large open map with multiple missions, though I've mostly just wandered around killing randoms and exploring to find chests, ghosts, and spinmetal. Very enjoyable. That and the events... I do those absolutely every single time.
There are some interesting things if you go explore areas that are clearly too high level for us at the moment as well. Hints at missions not yet available. I've yet to make it past the screamer thing guarding the entrance to something, but I think it's possible. And I haven't gone too deep into the cave from the Devil's Lair area where you have to disable the beams to proceed, but I know there's some high level stuff down there and it's creepy. Oh and not far from the screamer thing is a dark cave full of high level Thrall. NOPE NOPE NOPE! I hate Thrall! Though if there is any kind of high obstacles to jump on you can avoid them and play the ground is lava. ;3 I might try it again, but they also scare the shit outta me. heh I hate being ambushed in the dark at melee range.
