I asked this on Reddit but unfortunately I titled it "higher level metagame questions" and got laughed at. Apparently these aren't high level enough to warrant responses.
I could use a little help on the TF metagame. I have a few questions.
1.) how does the electric smoke work: When used offensively against rodeo does it do damage over time steadily, ramp up, or "charge up" for a period before instant kill?
2.) When used defensively for evasion, how quickly does it burn Titan shield? Is it an instant "%" burn, or steady damage over time?
3.) when performing rodeo is there an indicator that smoke is coming, audio or visual?
4.) is there a visual indicator of pilot ability charge time? I've heard the audio cue.
5.) how long is the pilot ability down time? Does the timer start after the ability is finished or after it's activated?
6.) what is the reduction from using the quick ability recharge?
7.) is there a visual indicator for Titan ability recharge?
Thanks everyone!!!

Does the timer start after the ability is finished or after it's activated? 6.) what is the reduction from using the quick ability recharge? 7.) is there a visual indicator for Titan ability recharge? Thanks everyone!!! Reddit's full of jagoffs anyway. 1.) After you deploy it, there is a short time before it activates (when you start to see all the arcs of electricity) and it will deal damage in very fast ticks to any enemy unit inside it. 2.) Steady damage over time. Not quite sure how fast is can take down Titan shields, but in my experience it takes 2-3 seconds. 3.) It won't give a HUD notification or anything, but you'll see the the Titan deploy the smoke, and you have a very short time to get outta dodge before it activates and begins to deal damage. 4.) There's a little white bar underneath your tactical ability on the HUD. When it's full, your ability is ready to use. When you activate it, the bar will turn grey and start to drain, showing how much duration is left. Once it empties, your ability is deactivated and the bar will slowly start to fill back up. 5.) Cloak lasts 9 seconds, and once it has expired it takes 10 seconds to recharge. Stim lasts 5 seconds, and once it has expired it takes 16.67 seconds to recharge. Active Radar Pulse lasts 7.5 seconds, and once it has expired it takes 14.3 seconds to recharge. 6.) Power Cell makes your abilities recharge 50% faster, so the recharge time is reduced by 33.3%. The Titan version, Tactical Reactor, makes Particle Wall and Electric Smoke recharge 25% faster, so the recharge time is reduced by 20% It affects Vortex Shield a little differently. Since it can be cancelled and activated at will instead being fire-and-forget like all the other abilities, it reduces the delay before it starts to recharge by 25% and the time it takes to fully recharge by 25%. 7.) See 4, same explanation.

For 1 and 2.
Electric smoke waits 2 seconds before doing damage. The area that it does damage over is constant. It does 15 damage to pilots and 200 damage to titans every 0.1 second after that. It lasts for a total of 7 seconds.

These aren't really "metagame" questions, these are more questions about the mechanics of the game.

It lasts for a total of 7 seconds. So it takes 0.7 seconds to kill a grunt, 1.4 seconds to kill a pilot or a Spectre, and 1.2 seconds to take out a Titan's shield. Looks like my estimate was way off.

Thanks Usagi. I played the game a bunch a week ago at a friend's house, and decided I wanted to buy an X1 to play it. Didn't have a chance to til this weekend, but last night I paid a lot of attention to the HUD and found those indicators. I also learned that you have to deploy Electric Smoke _and stand in it!!!_ to get a kill on a rodeo-ing pilot. When I was playing with my friend we kept wondering why Electric Smoke didn't seem to do anything to the bad guys, yet killed us all the time with (seemingly) no warning.
I got a pair of Turtle Beach headphones (which kind of suck admittedly) and can now hear when pilots board, and can smoke before they even have a chance to pull the noggin cover off. I'm still having trouble "seeing" the smoke when I'm doing rodeo, but lately the bad guys just jump out of the Titan to shoot at me anyway. I guess I can't differentiate between smoke as an artifact of shooting the weak spot versus electric smoke. I've jumped off prematurely before. I guess I need private matches to come out so I can get some solid differentiation.
Not to derail too much or anything, but I guess I've been misusing the word metagame. For instance, in previous CoD games I thought I was playing the metagame when I used game mechanics for an edge over other players. For instance, hearing the "beep beep" of the cell phones and knowing that a baddie called a UAV nearby, or seeing the skull marker and knowing that someone got knifed just ahead, or knowing to use Dexterity and a quick draw handle for a synergized sprint recovery. Learning the answers to the electric smoke questions I had can now help me bait electric smoke or a pilot disembark, which to me would be part of the metagame.
And to me, saying "high level" to me just means anything more than "SEE BAD GUY PULL RIGHT TRIGGER!" Actually learning how these things work is one level higher than clicking the button.
All that said, I fucking love Titanfall, I hope it doesn't get stale to me like CoD did.

I've noticed that a lot of people seem to think that smoke is a big cloud that stays on your Titan after you deploy it. It's meant do be deployed as a trap, like in narrow hallways, to prevent or dissuade enemy Titans from moving through there. That makes it a great escape tool. Also, in case you didn't know, smoke works like chaff, it prevents rockets and stuff from locking on to you.

After deploying the smoke, I like to walk around in it. In case that the pilot is fast enough to get off, there is a good chance that I can step onto him before he can get away.
By doing this, my experience has been that it is almost a guaranteed kill against Rodeo players. I haven't played Pilot Hunter game mode yet, when I do the electronic smoke will be my primary choice for the kit slot.

hey guys i didn't think this warranted a thread of its own so i thought i'd put them here.¹; does anyone know what the very large health bar in the very bottom middle of the screen is i think it starts blue and goes yellow ,sometimes its full sometimes its empty but either way i haven't got a clue what its for. ²; i read when your a titan attacking another titan there's a glowing red part that is more vulnerable, i don't think it makes a lot of difference in destroying them but it would be nice to know. ³; im 99% certain from what i have seen you are only cloaked until you fire your weapon am i correct. any input would be welcome thanks guys.

1. It's your XP. The blue part is how much you had before the game and the Orange is how much you've gotten so far in the game. 2. That's the Critcal Hit area, some of the guns have a multiplier for hitting that area. 3. You become uncloaked if you use your ordinance or tactical ability as well. And if you jump your jetpack will still show its flames.

ah thanks very much it had me baffled, but really it's quite obvious as the xp bar after game is the same colour i think what was confusing me was i was expecting it to be an actual health bar, but its not hard to get me confused. also do we know what weapons have the multipliers for the red area.

Six second delay with two seconds to regenerate to max health. Stim cuts the total time in half, three second delay and one second regen time.
