Several people on my forums have been discussing the holographic sight on the FAL stating that it gets a damage boost:
"FAL gets 55-40 with Holo. Other guns unaffected... so far."
Being that I'm a lazy bastard, would anyone like to confirm? Den?

Nice find then guys. IW should seriously hire everyone here as beta testers. I'm happy to hear that Bling=Holo+Silencer still keeps it a two shot kill with SP.

Nice find then guys. IW should seriously hire everyone here as beta testers. I'm happy to hear that Bling=Holo+Silencer still keeps it a two shot kill with SP. Actually, using a silencer removes the effect. You should read the thread.

As cool as a SP two-shot-kill Holo FAL sounds in theory, in practice I've found that it still doesn't measure up to the rest of the AR class.
While it does indeed kill in two shots, the semi-auto firing mode really reduces TTK. This is further exacerbated by the unpredictable recoil. While the recoil of the FAL is relatively strong, it would be manageable if it didn't bounce around in random directions all the time. This is in direct contrast to the SCAR-H (to name one example), where the recoil is predictable and thus easily compensated for even when firing full auto.
I would only recommend a Holo FAL for mid-long range engagements, and even then only hesitantly. In my experience I found that I was limited by the unpredictable recoil at mid-long ranges, and by the low rate of fire at close ranges. In my opinion a better choice would be the FAM16 – while both weapons rely on SP, the FAM16 performs much better at close range and has more predictable and manageable recoil for mid-long range engagements.
That said, there is something about the novelty of using a silenced AR that is capable of killing in two shots at any range with SP. It's like carrying a sort of strange sniper rifle and AR hybrid, a hybrid that is unfortunately lesser than the weapon families it is borne from.

To reiterate slashdolo's point, the FAL Holo+Silencer+SP combination DOES kill in two shots at any range. I have confirmed this anecdotally by playing for ~10 hours with Holo+Silencer+SP.
The only time where I have not killed in two hits at any range is when bullets have penetrated a surface prior to striking the enemy.

FAM16 with SP can bling a thermal scope and silencer for some pretty good AR sniping.
I've been playing with the FAL recently since I ran out of the challenges up to thermal scope unlock with all the other AR's I've unlocked and honestly it's not such a bad gun.
The recoil kinda sucks, and with iron sights the recoil animation is obscuring, however it's not as bad as you think. First of all being semi automatic does not automatically mean slow TTK. It means the ROF is mainly determined by the speed of your trigger finger. There is an upper limit on the ROF of semi auto weapons, but it's usually far higher than all of the fully automatics, meaning you could actually fire semi autos much faster.
BTW The recoil on the FAL is actually rather predictable too. I know it looks like it kicks all over, but in practice the aim tends to recenter horizontally rather quickly and then the bullets just walk strait up. It will depend on how quickly you fire it. The slower you fire the more it recenters first, but if you compensate for the vertical walk you don't have to wait for a full recenter. Hell I was practically sniping with it with iron sights, I just annoyingly had trouble seeing when they would move and missed my third shot a lot. (Stupid iron sights.) I just got the RDS which should fix that problem, though sadly the RDS is misaligned... ;-( I really don't understand who IW doesn't consider misaligned sights to be a bug and refuses to fix them. Oh well. Even without the damage bonus I'll likely use the Holo once I unlock it. But that does mean that when I roll with SP (not often lately) I'll have a rather nice bonus afterall. hehe

i don´t know it´s true. but with holo sight, the FAL gets more recoil? i played in public and with RDS i can shoot faster and accurater, but with holo i must shoot a little bit slower on longer range

fal with holo's recoil seems the same as rds to me. I've just got my red tiger camo with fal and i have to say i can use it just as well as any of the auto AR. im going to try blinging it today...

Tried it with Holo sight and it was nice. I did pretty well with it, because of its outstanding power, a few multi-kills too.
If I wasn't a regular noob tuber, the FAL is definitely a contender for my favorite gun w/ Holo sight + Stopping Power.
Without the damage boost from the holo sight, it was a bit of a pain to use.

FAL's recoil isn't too much. you simply need to run a 2-3 shot burst. what kills the FAL is the relatively slow ROF cap and long reload.
3 shot bursts from a FAL+hs+fmj/em+sp are devistating

what kills the FAL for me is the laggines of MW2 (pc version). my two shots takes the time of 4 shots to register. THUS, i can never be sure if my first two shots hit and i have fire double rounds at someone..

After reading this thread I quickly unlocked the Holo sight and I loved it. Worth blinging with silencer since its the only gun that fills the 2 shot kill at any range niche when silenced (not including snipers of course).
