What is the best class for taking down aircraft and other killstreak rewards?
In particular, I remember in COD4 if you had a Shotgun as your primary weapon, the helicopter would make you a low priority. Is this still true in MW2?

Just use cold blooded and you won't be targeted at all

I like anything + Stinger for anti-aircraft. My AA class has cold blooded as perk 2 so the aircraft don't bother me too much. I've unlocked the Javelin, but I haven't had any real success with it shooting down aircraft.
Good luck!

There are really only 2 good options
Stinger Scavenger Cold-Blooded
Stinger Sleight of Hand Cold-Blooded
If it's something like an AC-130, use the former because IIRC you get 3 stinger missiles on spawn, which is enough to take out an AC-130 in one life. Anything else use the latter because the faster reload could save some teammates' lives.

The following things are advisable: -SMG/sniper rifle (for free fast movement speed) -Stinger (best AA weapon) -SoH (faster ADS and faster reload - that Stinger takes quite a while to reload) -Cold-Blooded (so it won't bother you and gives you a chance against a Chopper Gunner
Alternatively you can put it on a LMG class to save one class slot. Not as fast-moving but a Stinger is least interfering on an LMG class.

I agree with everything here except that you don't get 3 Stinger missiles at any time. w/Scavenger you'll probably be able to pick up an extra one pretty easily though.

I run stingers on ALL my classes. I find that any time I don't have a stinger, no one else has a stinger either. Since I mostly play with LMGs, I'm not missing much by using stingers, too. LMG Stinger Scavenger Cold-Blood (I usually run with Stopping Power though, you just have to be quicker at finding cover) I usually play with a buddy, and he also almost always has a stinger equipped. Coordinating stinger shots is awesome. Nothings more fun than shooting down a Chopper Gunner or AC130 as soon as it enters view on the map.

I used to run with stingers on all classes, but now I tend to roll with OMA:Pro on all but my AA class. My AA uses the standard Stinger, Scavenger, CB most of the time, though I'm finding Scavenger less necessary since my teammates are helping shoot things down more.
BTW You can cancel part of the Stinger's weapon switch animation, though it's harder to time since you don't get the same weapon switch click as other weapons. You can probably cancel a lot of the reload too (watch ammo counter). Double tapping weapon switch button is probably the quickest way to cancel unless you need to sprint or knife someone anyway. Also keep in mind that the first time you switch to Stingers you have a longer animation. If you're already using them switch to it and back to your gun at the start of a life/match. Then when you need it the switch is quicker.
I wish they had saved the longer first switch animations for single player, seems silly in a multiplayer game to force us to switch once or incur a delay when we really need our secondary weapon.

Due to Shotguns being Secondaries that threat factor as been removed, so if to answer your question: No. On the other hand, to others who say "just wear Cold-blooded", it takes a LONG time (which can mean a different length of time depending on the player...but 30's and up is medium-high imo) to unlock. And besides, you get points for taking the darn thing down and help your low-leveled teammates as well. As for a class, I would say any Primary is fine, as long as you're comfortable with it at all (or most of your main) combat ranges. Some people prefer the AUG or another LMG, I stick with the TAR-21 and use a FIM-92 Stinger (as most else unanimously suggested). As for my second perk its usually Stopping Power, Cold-Blooded IF I'm playing HxC. I suppose Sleight of Hand or Scavenger is aight, it's situational though.

From Den's MW2 page.
From Den's CoD4 page.
Your weapon should no longer matter to the aircraft when they are deciding whom to shoot at.

There is one thing unique to the Harrier, though.
It doesn't use any of the threat factors of the helicopters; it will simply attempt to shoot at whoever is closest to it wherever it is facing and will turn to face enemies if there are none where it is looking.
It will though turn on a dime to face and target enemies with anti-air weapons (if those players don't have Cold-Blooded). But that's about it.
