From what I can tell, the M16 is better for close-mid ranges due to the lower cooldown between bursts, but the FAMAS has higher damage range and a faster burst, but more cooldown between the burst. (Or rather, do both have potentially the same DPS/TTK?)
I'm curious to which rifle the people on this forum prefer more. I personally side with the FAMAS. :X
(Oops, just realized this thread went into the wrong board...)

famas is better because of its longer max damage range. unfortunately the famas's shortcoming shows itself when you put its user under alot of pressure... The reload add time for an M16 is 1.12 seconds, a famas is a pitiful 2.2s.
Soooooo... Personally... The Famas is better while you're killing, but once you REALLY get to doing some work with it you'd rather have the M16 because you can scavanger pro it & speed reload it as fast as a famas with sohp. and the m16's sight is a tad thinner. Honestly... I always assume if I really feel like being more careful ill live plenty long enough for ammo to be an issue. Assuming you live that long also, M16 > Famas.
Now... If you're gunna go play S&H or something like that famas all the way. only rarely should you be running outta ammo.

I don't generally find the range that important as long as I use SP because it's still a one burst kill all the way out and you're still able to land all 3 hits until far beyond the range that even the FAMAS is doing min damage. It does help, dropping the TTK down a bit and getting a few odd kills where 1 shot misses, but usually it's no big deal.

I've done a lot of testing on these two rifles, and from current knowledge, I prefer the FAMAS.
The key similarities between them are the fire rate and damage values, and I have never noticed a difference in mobility either.
The key differences are recoil (the FAMAS has less recoil than the M16 except when you're using the M16's Holographic sight) and range. Both of these work in the FAMAS's favour. From my point of view, the M16's faster reload time is not significant enough to balance out these shortcomings.
I get the feeling there are still more things behind these guns, though. There must be another balancing element in the M16's favour, else, unless you consider reload speed to be of astronomical importance, there is no real reason to use the M16 over the FAMAS.

I've noticed more and more that the third shot of the famas burst bounces higher than the first two...the results of this depend on the range of the target (think of a triangle - the longer x is, the higher y is)
it's getting quite annoying really and I'm starting to aim a bit lower. I don't think the M16 has this problem, but I just prefer the Famas regardless

Only tidbits I've seen on the forums other than the obvious damage/range stats about the two guns are that a) The M16 has a shorter delay between bursts, so it fires slightly more quickly and b) The M16 has a different spread pattern with a Holo vs an RDS
But I can't find a post that shows the exact time of the burstfire on the FAM16, or the exact time between shots. Similarly, I don't know how much the M16 spreads have been tested.
edit: From my own eyeballing, the FAM16 have identical fire rates, but the Holo thing does seem to be true for the M16. Makes me wonder if the spreads are affected by the sights on other guns as well.

What are the differences in the spreads on the M16 with the Holo vs RDS? Is one better? I prefer the view on the RDS but if the Holo is more accurate or has a tighter bullet spread... I may have to reconsider. In general, I like both the Famas & the M16, so I use Famas on longer range maps (such as Derail) and the M16 on mid range maps, especially if there is some short range opportunity such as in Karachi because the quicker reload really comes in handy.

I believe you can throw grenades faster with the m16 than the famas. In other words, the gun pops back up faster after a nade/flashbang.

The Holo sight increases the FALs minimum damage. If it also increases the M16s accuracy maybe the Holo does something small to each gun or maybe QA missed something.

Just tested it out in a private match multiple times and the M16 with Holographic is almost twice as accurate as the M16 with Red Dot. The holo M16 is also more accurate than the Holo or RDS FAMAS.
So there you go.

More accurate than Famas? Heck yea! Finally a reason to use the M16.

famas, because if you miss the first burst, you should be using an ACR.
M16 is like the middle child. You have the superior FAMAS who is always better if you use a burst rifle correctly, then you have an ACR who is better if you miss.
M16 is like the worst of both worlds.

But the m16 /w holo is more accurate than the Famas. It also reloads and switches faster.

I like the famas for its better damage retention over range, and I find that the irons are actually useable, so I can roll with silencer/SOHp. When I do feel like using m16 though I use bling: holo/silencer.

M16 burst is hella tight with Holo. I didn't believe it so I tried it out on Highrise switching between RDS and Holo with OMA. I was gonna see if it had any effect on hipfire which I kinda doubt, but it might. But I had steady aim on one and not the other class so that was out and I was out of time for testing.

It looks like SP+Holo turns both the M16 and FAL into the next best thing to sniper rifles.

I wouldn't consider it that severely, but I do agree with you on that the M16 is the decently-rounded one.
