I'm at level 10 now and the only sponginess I've noticed is against the armored enemies (bosses, mostly) and enemies that are above my level, which makes sense. Plain old street thugs at or below your level drop pretty quickly, especially with headshots. Watching vids I too thought the sponginess was going to be an issue, but it hasn't played out that way.
Also, made my first foray into the Dark Zone last night. Suffice it to say that if you're level 10 and you run into 4+ level 11 or 12 enemies, you're gonna have a bad time. I died. A lot. I did manage to kill a few guys and found a nice blue SMG that was a big boost to my DPS. Went to extract and was met by 8 level 12 enemies. LOL nope! I'll try again once I gain a few levels and the playing field is a little more equal.

Interesting. If there's a demo I might give it a whirl at some point. Mebbe it's not so bad...

At current max level (30) you will have to fight nothing but level 32 yellow barred enemies in challenge mode and DZ 5 and 6. They are very bullet spongey until you deck yourself out in high end gear and fight with a team of people who also are decked out in high end gear.
At least one player with high electronics can also help out since buffed scan and smart cover can increase party DPS.

Borderlands 1 & 2 again have some spongy enemies, but the majority of them die pretty satisfactorily to decent weapons for your level and explosives are pretty lethal other than the guns that shoot rockets instead of bullets. (Those are kinda garbage.) For Borderlands 2 you should get your hands on the Carnage shotgun made by Torgue, preferably with the 'Casual' prefix. That's the only top tier gun I can think of that actually shoots rockets (I'm excluding general explosive rounds for weapons like the KerBlaster, Seeker, Flakker, Swordsplosion etc). To be fair, players are bullet sponges too. I run the Support Link and basically if a heavy yellow is trying to mow me down with an LMG, I turn his machine gun rounds into confetti.

Yeah players can take a beating in Borderlands 2, though it's dependent on class, build, and gear, and level of enemies you're fighting.

Double penetrating unkempt harold and a ruby. I could solo the final boss in 3 seconds as the stumpy dwarf dude.

Double penetrating unkempt harold and a ruby. I could solo the final boss in 3 seconds as the stumpy dwarf dude. Salvador is basically the boss killer since two guns are better than one. I have a droppable Grog Nozzle and I use that with DPUH on bosses. Combine those with the Legendary Gunzerker Mod and you can use your 'Super' constantly until Pyro Pete is dead. I have a modified one that deals +7 Yippee-Ki-Yay and +6 Lay Waste (everything else is +5). Sometimes Zer0 can kill bosses faster than Salvador and Terramopheus is one of those. You plant slag grenades on the hole where he appears through and just shoot him down with the Sawbar, a Bandit pearlescent assault rifle. B0re is what really kills here, even melee Zer0s spec into B0re because of how ridiculous it is, especially with the Pimpernel. Maya is probably my favourite character because she seems most versatile and I can always whip out a Jakobs rifle to snipe with, since White Death/Lyuda are better with Zer0. That's what she said! I've never understood why the Double Penetrating prefix isn't on a Moxxi weapon. It would suit Moxxi a lot.

April update highlights from the stream today, copied from reddit.
-Incursions were hard, they made them harder, "Don't expect to beat it on the first or second time." -Best Gear and Weapons in the Incursions. -Concept art shows a really cool underground, huge area for "Falcon Lost," LMB is confirmed as main enemies and have access to vehicles. -4 different gear sets, powerful talents are granted when you have all the gear in a set equipped, will "change the way we play," Sets are a green color. -Gear Sets are "rare," reward for Incursion, one gear set is specific to the Dark Zone experience (called "Path of the Nomad"). -"Strikers Battle Gear" Combat assault, for grunts. -"Sentry's Assault" For Electronics lovers. -"There are blueprints" -Looks like a gear set for each play style. -"When you hit level 30, item level will be removed and "Gear Score" will be added." -Gear Sets require a trade off, probably sacrificing stats for the powerful bonuses. -Instead of player levels in the future, we will see there gear score. -Confirmed that we will be able to view players gear. -"Trading" If a group is playing and they all get a good drop, they can trade stuff they don't want. -In Dark Zone must trade at checkpoints, protect players from stealing. -The "500 Slot" Backpack was just a dev build, Massive pls nerf Dev. -Trading works by dropping it on the ground, that means that a random person in a group can steal your gear. Be carful. -"Assignments" Weekly and Daily objectives, already on your map, you will get Phoenix credits, division tech (No Word on HE). Some is Combat Themed, Dark Zone Themed. "Kill X number of Rikers." -"Supply Drops" Dark Zone item, "really good loot in them," available to whole group. You don't need to extract these items. Happens every hour, guarded by "Tough Enemies." -"Spectator Camera" You can view other players after you die, FINALLY. Switch Between them, move around the camera, sounds like the way they have it in GTA: Online when you die. -Most predictable way to get Gear Sets is Incursions, however you can get them anywhere.
Incursion Specific:
-LMB have taken over a water plant, FL is underground. -Story wise you NEED to retake the water plant -4 Man Squad only, you don't see player levels, just gear score. Looks better honestly. -Story Wise (Spoiler Warnings) Bliss is dead (shocking) new person has taken over, big explosions happen. -Some objectives in the incursion include a "Eliminate X number of waves" and "Destroy APC" -2 Difficulties, Hard Mode is the easiest, at least Level 31 gear to be effective. Then Challenge Mode, you need the new gear to be effective. Overall, needs a higher level of focus. -Challenge mode is "brutal," the best developers and the best gear took them a couple days to beat it on challenge mode. -Its very fun, if you love a challenge, get ready for tactical gameplay. -There will be more Incursions after this "Many More" -Story wise, there are big events happening in the world. -Need a good group, need good synergy, might be hard with randoms. -Will probably start to use more consumables. -APC does huge damage, but you can get away from fire. -There are flying "Drones" that need to be dealt with differently versus humans. Complete 180 in terms of facing them. -Matchmaking, required gear score though. -If you fail, all die, you start from the beginning. -If you beat it, you may get a "good gun" and may get a gear set item. -NO WEEKLY TIMER, however for the first time you do it for that week, you get a better reward. -Can't damage APC with bullets. Special way to kill it, new mechanic. -"Group coordination is key." -Completely new location. -Future Incursions will have new mechanics, they have played them. -Challenge mode is the sure fire way to get Gear Sets. -You can get the weekly reward with multiple characters.
Coming April 12th, because Foxtrot Bungie, that's why.

-There are flying "Drones" that need to be dealt with differently versus humans. Complete 180 in terms of facing them. Some Ghost Recon influence? Now I want my Ghost Recon Future Soldier weapon skin in The Division instead of Rainbow Six: Siege. The update sounds impressive so hopefully it follows through with that. Competition looks like it's raising the standards for gamers to enjoy. I've seen this happen with Pro Evo outperforming FIFA many years ago so hopefully people will see sense here. I'll give the Destiny update a whirl though. Not sure if it will keep me busy too much but the points system might entertain me for a bit. Perhaps it's just me but I wonder if Bungie developers have played Bulletstorm.

I finally convinced THebb to pick up The Division today. Since he's starting from scratch anyway, our plan is to roll charcters for the sole purpose of hitting level 14 in the most efficient way possible, talent/perk/base of operations unlock speaking. In other words, we'll be skipping all side missions and basically anything that gives XP except for encounters and story missions that grant progress towards BoO upgrades. Why? Because we want to build alts that wreck the rest of the level 1-14 Dark Zone player bracket, allowing us to do pretty much whatever we want whenever we want to whoever we want in the DZ just to mess around, whether that's helping out noobs or trolling people that do something annoying. Might be a little douchey, but whatever, it's the Dark Zone. First rule of the DZ, there are no rules in the DZ. I did stumble across a pretty in-depth guide for this type of alt build on Reddit. Here it is if anyone else thinks this sounds like a fun idea: www.reddit.com/r/thedivision/comments/4chqyt/guide_to_twinking_lvl14_play_to_the_max/. We won't be going all out and getting carried by level 30s or anything like that, but some of the comments make it sound like that's a bit overkill anyway. The priorities for me would be survivor link, level 4 virus protection, pulse, first aid, and sticky bomb or turret, along with a perk that synergizes somehow with those skills. Anything else would be icing on the cake.

it is actually a really solid plan to level up to DZ rank 50 (the level where you get all the good blueprints) prior to hitting 30. Most of the people cruising around in the 30 DZ now all have gear that they have farmed for weeks.

Question for you Dumien. If we take these level 14 DZ only alts up to DZ rank 50, will that unlock all those good blueprints for our main characters too, or are we going to have to level our mains up also? If we have to level the mains as well, I'll make it a point to stop at level 29 and farm the DZ then rather than get crushed going up against all those well-geared level 30s.

I've been wondering the same thing. Stopped at 19 to twink a bit in DZ, and accidentally ding'ed, so now I'm trying to get loaded out for 24. I got to DZ rank 16 after an hour or so, getting around 100 DZ XP per lvl 16-18 purple kill. Not sure if that's a very effective method. Would probably go faster going rogue, only killed 1 person who made an adorable attempt to kill me at extraction. Grouping would definitely speed things up.

Naw, what I was recommending was making the alt the main. get the good blueprints from grinding DZ 50 at low level. Once you do, get to level 30 and enjoy having everything unlocked.

Looks like Massive have caught the Bungo logic with the upcoming nerf to crafting: tomclancy-thedivision.ubi.com/game/en-GB/news/detail.aspx?c=tcm:154-245851-16&ct=tcm:148-76770-32The whole point of playing a loot-based game is to test out different builds, see Borderlands 2 ffs. That is not going to happen if the cost of crafting becomes prohibitive. It's the same problem Destiny has with lossy infusion so I only used S-tier equipment and, as a result, used fewer weapons than in year 1 when a significant number of players were crying over others because they were only using a handful number of weapons.

Hamish (aka The Division's version of DeeJ) has said that not all the info surrounding the crafting changes has been released yet, and that he's still in the process of getting all the info, but this change isn't going to have the huge negative impact everyone is speculating. Apparently the more he finds out, the more confident it makes him that these changes will actually be good, so let's hope. Not sure why they'd announce a huge nerf without also announcing whatever other relevant info that helps put said nerf into context, but c'est la vie.
