Yes, I ignore lots of requests... players of MMOs will know this as feeling very well. Many players begging to be carried through things they simply can't do with their current level. If you are a buddy I have no problem taking you through if it is within my ability. dumien, carry me through raid plox. Kthxbye.

Just an FYI that all player info from this thread should have now been reflected in OP. Let me know if I missed anything or made any mistakes. With Bungie.net profile linkable, one very cool thing is that you can now check out any bro's class setup by following that link. I know that I am going to look at that from time to time just to see how more experienced bros are doing their loadouts, and drool on cool gears/cosmetic-items that I don't have Note: for a few bros ( Dumien, GodMars, TheHawkNY, etc) the link does not reveal Destiny's class setup. I assume that is because they hid it through some privacy setting.

You f$$kers convinced me: PSN: PoloMarkoPolo Bungie: PoloMarkoPolo Platform: PeeEssFohr Region: Central Time Zone in Canada. DISCLAIMER: I am a casual gamer and usually game evenings once my kids have gone to bed. But if real life calls (have to help my 4 year old daughter go potty because she's 97.3% asleep but has to go) I will do AFK (computer term... AFC: Away From Controller/Console?) to help her... no offense to anyone here or that I game with, but if I have to choose in failing a video game level to prevent me from having to change my daughter and her bed and give her a bath... I'll fail the level 103 times out of 50. That being said, my wife is pretty good at knowing when I'm in the middle of things and can't go... but if it's hour #4 of gaming and she's gone up to deal with the kids 10 times, I might have to go. I know that some people get pissed off about that sort of thing, so I understand. I never have been big into clans in COD or DDO when I gamed, so I understand if you don't want me in. But if you say, "we're raiding on Saturday @ 10 central" and I read it with enough notice, I can book off the time. But I've been a PUG gamer for most of my online video game experience, and that won't change. You are my bro, bro

I don't think we're so hardcore a group that it will be a big deal. Raids are being handled team by team on a volunteer only basis from what I understand. If you are level 27+ and want to raid by all means hook up with leadership and find yourself a team that can schedule a raid in a time slot you think you can commit to.
I think if RL calls most peeps will be fairly understanding. Luckily raids sort of have checkpoints and save your progress so it can be broken up over the course of a week if need be.
Good luck and have fun.

I've just gamed with some people who were a bit too hardcore and couldn't deal with it... they're mindset was that "when you game, you game and that's why you're here and if you're not, then why are you here" As for raiding, I think I just hit level 4 before the PSN crapped out/went into maintenance mode last night, so I think I'll have a while to go before I get there. But so far, I'm having a lot of fun just shooting shanks and dregs and vandals in Old Russia. I think I'm on the 3rd level but I'm just effing around and having them respawn so I can get used to the feel of the game.

Play enough missions so you unlock patrol. If you just want to F around, patrol is perfect for that. You can explore most of the map, visit all the public areas and do public events, (they happen on a schedule if you want to hit all you can, too) and there are patrol missions you can pickup if you want a little mini mission. I recommend you do activate the beacons, because they give rewards and most of them just have you kill stuff you're already killing. I've spent an inordinate amount of time just dicking around. (Enough to hit level 20 before completing the 2nd mission on the moon.) I love patrol. I definitely recommend activating those beacons since there is no penalty for not finishing them or even cancelling them if you don't like them.

PS. If you see me on hit me up. I can switch to my Defender that's lower level or just take you with me on a higher level mission and powerlevel you. ;3 (Not sure how effective powerlevelling is in Destiny, though. Probably not vary, XP doesn't seem to be exponential like in many MMO's.)

I am very glad that you enjoyed your experience so far. When you posed the question of whether or not your should pick up Destiny, I tried to sell it pretty hard (which I sincerely believe that it is something that fit well with your schedule). So if it turned out that you really hate the game, I would feel very bad

I did Patrol for about 3 hours last night after finishing the mission where your Ghost has to hack into something that is protected by Rasputin firewall. So much fun. I think I have finished about 15ish missions... only to find that I have no vanguard marks. So I'm a little pissed off about that... but my rank is 150 so I dunno... I'm mainly doing Patrol for the practice and the XP. Welcome to the world of Destiny and DenK clan! I am very glad that you enjoyed your experience so far. Yeah I think patrol missions will only net you vanguard rep, not marks. But do every public event you can and I think you can get marks from those. I forget. I'm not to the point that I can actually use any of that yet, so it hardly matters. (Though I'm getting close to Vanguard rank 1.) Also don't forget to pickup those bounties. You can use destinypublicevents.com to help you hit tons of public events. They often happen late so don't get discouraged if you're in the area for several minutes and nothing happens. They also sometimes won't happen, particularly if there aren't people around, though.
Patrol is one of those things I usually drop into thinking I don't want to play long enough to finish a regular mission... then wind up not going to orbit until three hours later. ;p

I actually got 4 or 5 events (if we're talking about the same thing) The first 3, I got lucky, as I was just walking by and I threw a grenade in time for a bunch of 20+ers to kill everything. The other 2 times it was just me by myself trying to kill a guy and no matter what I did, I couldn't hurt them and I just ended up wasting ammo which pissed me off more than anything because I died soon after.
My biggest piss off in destiny so far... in level 2, in the subwayesque station, there's a ramp that if you're not careful, a level 18 big mothamotha one shots you if you're not careful... I mean, who the f$$k puts one of those there in level 2?

Ahh You don't actually have to go through the subway, just down to the map and back up. That just comes back out near the spawn. Although there's usually a chest and spinmetal down there if you can avoid the big guys. I tend to go grab those fairly often and just avoid the big guys... well until recently. Now my warlock at least can kill pretty much anything in patrol.
As for those events where you have to kill a guy, yes, those are very tough. In beta where everybody was level capped at 8 it still took several people working together to kill them in time, and usually it was close or a fail. Those events will be tough, and some of the war sats and things will be tough at lower levels too, but it's worth participating even if you just have to zerg rush and hope the other players can clear it. Plus it gives you some experience fighting tougher enemies and trying to stay alive. Keep at it and soon enough you'll be higher level and kicking ass in all the events. I hope we get some new ones over time. Public events are one of my fav things in Destiny.

Should I be actively collecting it/looking out for it?

You can turn it in for reputation, but I think it's primary use is in some weapon upgrades, though I've yet to find anything that uses the resources you gather for upgrades. So far I've only seen things use stuff you get from dismantling other gear.

As you level, you'll need quite a bit of them, so make sure to keep an eye and an ear out for them.
