This is simple enough for me to answer myself, by starting another character but, if anyone else has done it already...... I've stuffed my vault with anything green/blue I've found along the way with my first character (a Warlock) I did this to speed up (and save glimmer) when I start the hunter/titan runs. (I know it's obvious.) Question - my Armour looks a little 'wizardy' Is it usable by Titans and Hunters? All armour pieces? I could do the Hadronic Essence I'd get from dismantling it. I also know that by dismantling Hunter gear you get Sapphire Wire. That's where my confusion stems from: how can I dismantle a chest piece as a Warlock to get one thing and get something else if I dismantle it as a Hunter? Is it only weapons that are actually transferable? I'll never build another Warlock, in theory, so I almost feel like I should empty my vault of Armour and trash the lot for resources and glimmer. Obviously I'm not going to do that until I've tested it....

Engrams are transferable since the particular item given to you isn't chosen until you turn it in. That also lets you hang on to them and turn in at higher levels for better loot if you desire.

Engrams I understand. But I'm wondering about actual kit.

Engrams I understand. But I'm wondering about actual kit. During beta I put a ton of crap into the vault. What I found out is that most (if not all) armor pieces are not transferable cross classes, but (almost) all the other things can: weapons, vehicles, ships, emblems, shaders(?), materials, consumables... On a related note: I highly recommend to create your 2nd and 3rd characters now and at least go through the tutorial mission. This will make sure that you can use them to join a Fire Team whenever you want to (say you need to play with a slacker friend like me who has not yet spent much time playing the game yet )

Witty: I was just going to say you should create your second and third characters now, but for a different reason. That vault space is pretty limited. Creating those characters and moving items from the vault to them allows you to store an additional 20 weapons of each class. If I have the chance tonight, I planned on grinding for engrams. I definitely want to move all of the weapons I have that I won't be using during grinding to the vault so I can pick up more engrams at once, and additional characters will help with the space for that.

All weapons are usable by all classes.
Armour however, is not. Every piece of armour is unique to one of the 3 classes.

Has anybody tried putting bounties into the vault as well? It would be really sweet if you can...

It's a good idea to store resources such as spinmetal so you can consolidate them from all your characters given that you need lots of 50 to turn them in.
