6 hours of farming that title ass cave? That's a ton of time to burn, on literal nonsense It is more productive than the Moon story for many reasons: Green engrams that give you weapon parts or glimmer if you want to dispose of them. More kills per hour - handy to upgrade weapons and gain Motes of Light More blue engrams per hour - transfer them to an extra character if they need blue gear, if not then try your luck getting Strange Coins from them etc. No need to travel to a public event, it comes to you twice hourly if you need Vanguard Marks I probably wouldn't do six hours straight though.

Cave farm. Do it now. Before they patch it. Go to skywatch. Earth. Now. You will more than likely see a high level player shooting at a cave spawning minions almost instantaneously. Join in. Ask to join their fire team. Wait til they reload to run in and get the loot. Repeat. I got 3 exotics and 7 legendaries in about 6 hours of gametime. Pretty happy. I seem to be the only person in the game not overflowing with legendaries and exotics. With one exception (rocket launcher), every purple engram I get turns into a blue. Everyone is talking raid and I can't even step in it because I'm not level 26. Oh, and I'm Cryptarch level 12, so yeah, it's not just a few moments of bad luck. My two cents: don't waste time at the cave unless you are looking to be frustrated. I've certainly spent more than six hours there overall, and I have nothing to show for it. You're better off earning rep and marks and buying your purples.

Regarding farming: (To over simplify), at its core It is a goal oriented (with goal being the level grinding or looting) "horde killing" experience. If you are enjoying the "horde killing" part (which is offered by most of the FPS games nowadays, just the killing, no reward ), then you should not hate If the experience itself is painful and the only reason why you are doing it is to grind for levels/loots, then hate all you want Bungie's public event design is brilliant in making farming more fun. Every a few minutes something happens to drive players to coop impromptu, adding an interesting twist with a handsome reward (relative to the effort).

Farming? Wait until you need Ascendant Shards for your legendary gear upgrades. This is why I farm for the blue engrams because about 200 of those should give me 2-3 Ascendant Shards.

How many of these annoying "Asendant Shards" do you need for each piece of legendary armor? Do you need them for Exotic as well? How many?

Its like 16 (in incriments of 8) for exotic and 18 for each legendary (in incriments of 6). Ascendent shards got easier since someone on Reddit figured out the exact timetables on public events. Now you can just watch a clock and move around the cosmodrome netting quite a few shards/hour. I never actually looked at the Reddit post, but I followed one of my friends around. This is a slightly more entertaining practice than cave farming, but it won't get you many engrams.

Damn. Did the cave. Got drawn right in. I didn't really get a lot at all but did pick up a few coins on the decrypt. My mate got 1 legendary engram. I've done it now. I remember when bungie banned people for exploiting the hammer of god that time. They don't like this sort of thing at all.

gosh darn golly gee whiz. Did the cave. Got drawn right in. I didn't really get a lot at all but did pick up a few coins on the decrypt. My mate got 1 legendary engram. I've done it now. I remember when bungie banned people for exploiting the hammer of god that time. They don't like this sort of thing at all. Nearly everyone does it so if they banned players for it they would cut out their player base by a large chunk. Every time I go to the Skywatch there is always someone there doing it. I don't see how is it bannable though, unless embarrasing developers for the lack of quality control is a bannable offence.

They didn't ban anyone for gaming Xur's coin exchange, I doubt they'll ban people for farming mobs.

Plus this map is glitched. If the Warsat does not arrive then the special forces of the Hive (Chosen and something else) and the Fallen (Reaver) clash and you get a three way fight. Enjoyable with several people but right now I am alone for sone reason.

To add: if you do not pick up a blue or purple engram before going into orbit, then you get them sent to you by the Postmaster. Special delivery!

Yeah, so, the Bad Juju automatically reloads when you kill a mob by pulling the ammo out of thin air. It's unlimited ammo as long as you can consistently kill stuff.

Last night shooting at the cave I noticed that it was easier to keep my auto rifle on target firing full auto when I was crouching than when I was standing, but my rifle does not have any modifiers specifically for crouching so this would seem to be a generalized effect of crouching on recoil. It's also been mentioned that jumping makes weapons far less accurate.
I was wondering what information we have on stance affects on weapon performance? Anything specific?

Fairly certain crouching affects stability. Possibly placebo, but I would like to think otherwise due to my shooting at a cave for hours.

Pro tip: keep the Stranger's Rifle even if you're not sure you are going to use a second character because it's so great.

Didn't realize other people didn't know about that.
Also, items get XP when you turn in your bounties, so switch to guns and subclasses hat aren't completely maxed out when turning them in. Combing this with that, you can get quite a few more materials out of items without even using them.

Only thing I did not know is that legendary weapons gave energy after being dismantked, although I did suspect it. Any rubbish legendaries I could just dismantle anyway.

I thought it might be good info for nubs like me who haven't even gotten a legendary yet. ;3 Here is a problem that exist in random systems like Destiny: 1) When you don't have something, you really want it and it takes what feels like an eternity for it to drop; 2) Once you do acquire it, suddenly the system is very generous in giving more of its kind to you ; From what I heard, in Destiny this happens fairly often. E.g.: once you have a legendary helmet, you keep getting more legendary helmet As a result, its good to know that you can dismantle them to get something useful.

It also seems the higher the level, the more stuff is being thrown at you (green/ blue) engrams. While rarely getting a blue during 1-20, I'm getting around 2-4 per strike now at lvl 25. So far I've only got 1 purple engram drop, do people at lvl 27-30 get these regularly on strikes or only rarely?

Some tips from me:
At Vanguard Rank 3 you are given a random legendary weapon. At Vanguard Rank 4 you are given two legendary pieces of armour (mine were both to my class so they might be class specific) and two pieces of Upgrade Materials (I got a Mote of Light and a Strange Coin for my Hunter).
You can earn up to 6 Upgrade Materials (Mote of Light, Strange Coin, Ascendant Energy and Ascendant Shard) by having 3 characters and selecting the highest level difficulty for the Daily Story Missions. As of 15th October 2014 it appears you can earn 6 Ascendant Energies in one day now, as before I have always gotten 4 Energy and 2 Shards, or vice-versa. You can also earn Upgrade Materials by playing public events, either as the first gold event of the day and as a bonus award.
Upon redeeming decoherent engrams, if you are given rare fusion rifles store them in your inventory as you will need 10 of these for the bounty called Shattered Memory Fragment, which rewards the Pocket Infinity fusion rifle.
Stock up on Glimmer if you can. Not only are these used for weapon upgrades but you will need 15,000 Glimmer to purchase special ammo synthesis packs from Banshee (the Gunsmith) for the Invective shotgun from the bounty, A Dubious Task. If you are going to be killing Fallen then just use Ether Seeds to increase your Glimmer drops, Blue Polyphage for Vex, Black Wax Idol for Hive, and Resupply Codes for Cabal enemies. These last 10 minutes but you can carry multiples in your inventory and you can have more than one different type running at the same time (Earth – Fallen and Hive, Moon – Fallen and Hive, Venus – Vex and Fallen, Mars – Cabal and Vex).
Sniper rifles are kings out of the secondaries for PvE so try and get as many level 20 rare sniper rifles, or better, in different elements. These will help you complete the Daily and Weekly events that use elemental modifiers. Rare sniper rifles can have noteable utility bonuses such as: an extra round in the magazine, reduced flinch when under fire (really handy against bosses), and not needing a full trigger pull to have an accurate shot. All of these help with DPS.
When handing in bounties, switch to any gear you want to level up and unequip them when required. This is handy for levelling up legendary weapons so you can upgrade them more conveniently, or you wish to dismantle them for more Ascendant Energies. I dismanted a fully levelled The Chance (a Hand Cannon sold by Future War Cult), which was given to me by an engram and I received 5 Ascendant Energies and 7 Weapon Parts.
If you are looking into Nightfall but cannot regularly find a teammate, check on Youtube to see if it is viable to play solo. The Winter's Run with Aksor (7 Oct – 14 Oct 2014) was pretty pretty straight forward for solo players because you can cheese Aksor by going underneath the platform to his capsule's left hand side (your right) and the triple burn feature meant you could let enemies kill each other and you could two shot large enemies with sniper rifles like Hydras. If you play as a Warlock, then Fireborn is a key perk to use to save you being sent to orbit.
