So I'm starting to slow down just a tiny bit. Take it a bit easy after the intial burst of momentum. I'm not finding the game boring. I simply finally have all my ducks in a row. I'll preface this opinion piece by stating that even if you don't like a class you should still level up all three characters to at least 23 once you have a level 27/8 character.
Here's why.
Having multiple characters allows you to bypass the multitude of weekly limits...from event rewards to nightfall rewards to raid chests and gear. This means more ascendant shards. More opportunities to get to 30 (raid gear). More strange coins for the weekly vendor. More legendaries from the vanguard/crucible armories. A nice tip is to get a raid team to the gorgons maze and then just constantly lets teammates swap between their 23+ characters to get the two chests there. This guarantees at least 6 chests per players...fantastic value.
It doesn't take much time either. I just AFKed outside of the cave and read a book while strangers got me mad xp. This is one of the reasons I don't understand the complaints about the raod to 20. You can literally AFK that entire road. NO EXCUSES.
That aside, I've gotten to play in PvE with each class now quite a bit and i've come to the conclusion that there is another reason to level up multiples...the reviewers are wrong. Each class is fantastically unique. Not in a borderlands 2 level, but each is a vastly different experience that fills different roles.
Let's start with my main... The Titan....I'm super biased.
The striker has badass points for the HULK SMASH, but it really has its CQC roles filled better by the Defender and the Blade Dancer. In PvP I know the area denial is fantastic. IMO the main reason to use striker is the flashbang grenade and Transfusion combined with an Armor/Speed build. This way every melee kill (not just melee special) triggers regen..thus making the regen stat obselete. If you don't run the Striker this way the Defender outperforms in melee and the bladedancer Super outpermors fist of havoc.
The Defender is the ultimate medic. I've completed 4 Nightfalls this week walking most of my friends through. Before we figured out how to cheese the phogoth fight with no danger...there was this moment where both my buddies were down. I was back behind the shrieker room plotting my medic run. After thinking for about 30 seconds and making my intentions and plans clear to my teamates I executed my plan. I ran to "the rock" and bubbled my buddy and I while I revived. He the cloaked and revived my other friend. I then ran back the the shrieker room. I always stay in the back...out of harms way, but the game usually relies on my ability (or inability) to clutch a certain situation. On Raids defender is a necessary beast for new players. The Weapons of Light buff stacks with Time's Vegence boss on the final athereon fight. However, I usually have the bubble set for melee protection. You can draw aggro from bosses, and more importantly you get to use disintegrate more effectively. I have my disintegrate teched with gift of light...this lets you get 10+ orbs of light at times as long as enemies keep rushing you and you keep punching them....this effectely turns the defender into the greatest potential orb giver. In addition the defender makes a superb melee class...easily outclassing the striker. On a cool note...this is the first time I've ever seen an effective support/melee type.
The Gunslinger is really really good at taking down those wizards. Hunters are always good to have on your team because of the sheer damage potential they bring in gunslinger. This one of the reasons you run support classes...so you can get amazing supers like Golden Gun going. Not much more to say...Gunsligher is a powerhouse and the best user of handcannons because of the reload bonuses.
The Bladedancer is my third favorite class. Blade Dancer is the second best medic class in the game due to the ability to reset enemy aggro with Stalker. This is a contender for the best non-super ability in the game and is probably the main reason you want a hunter on your team. If your focus is gunslinger you should be leveling up bladedancer just so you can have this ability unlocked. Real life Example. Two teamates go down. The gunslinger runs away. Goes into the menu and switches on a bladedancer completed teched for speed/sprint. Crouches for a few seconds. Goes invisible. Runs and revives the defender (me). Defender immediately bubbles. Waits for the ability to wear off/cooldown. Runs and gets the other guy. This ability is THAT GOOD. Get it. Now. Blade dancer also has an amazing super...super useful for PvE and PvP. It is more mobile than other AoE (assuming spinmove) supers and has a longer lduration.
Voidwalker. Pretty good at mob clearing, but I mainly see this as a PvP class. It does little in the area of supporting teammates. I can see voidwalkers becoming handy in Vex Nightfall Strikes because of the void shields...but atm they don't stand out and are outperformed by other classes and their alternate subclass...
The Sunsinger. Second favorite class. Sunsinger so beast. Just like defenders...everyone wants a sunsinger on their team. Lots of Orbs. Lots of cooldown reduction. lots of support. All the support. Support for says. Oh...and grenades for nades. Sungersinger has easily the most useful Raid and Nightfall ability in Fireborn. fireborn negates the 30 second revive time in Raid, by auto ressing...and it ensures victory in Nightfall by anchoring the team. If two sunsingers get together they can just chain supers off of each other. I'm going to upload a hilarious video of this pretty soon... The melee (with knockback or fireshield) is also fantastic. Very defender-esque but with more range and less speed. The main cool thing about the sunsinger is how drastically the super modifiers change the way you play the class as a whole. Fireborn does the autores thing and lets you anchor/play in more dangerous cheesy areas. Radiant Skin lets you play medic since you are nearly indestructible. Song of flame you have to stay near your allies and you pretty much share your super with them. Chuck lots and lots of grenades together. Live happy.
There you have it...my super biased week 2 opinions. Hope I didn't hurt your feelings Voidwalker Denbros. I think they did a fantastic job with their initial release of classes... I'm looking forward to the 3rd subclasses in DLC.
