I believe you can talk to strangers in the weekly heroic strikes. Seemed to have happened to me last week when doing Venus. I have no luck with that.

So, there's websites, but no ingame "LFG" section (aka: looking for group)? that sorta sucks.... but I guess it makes the importance of clans that much more I am finding the clan feature to be kind of worthless. Like with CoD, it was ridiculously easy to always play partied up. Even late stages with Ghosts, never an issue. And in the rare instance of having no friends/clan guys on,...I would play a game or two with randoms, and have a group of six together kicking butt. But setting aside grouping up stuff, there were also reasons to be in clan. To compete. Right now, Destiny doesn't have that. As far as grouping up. Destiny? It's not working out like I thought. There is a good bit of (unintentional) discriminating going on. "I won't play with this guy, as he's only level 21". That type of stuff. A lot of that is a function of just how micro-looting obsessed this game is. I might have fifteen friends on tonight, but I can be almost positive all fifteen are going to be looking for things very specific to their goals. This guy can't play with me, because he needs helium. That person Iron. This person Marks. the above...I do it too. I'm just as much to blame. I'll party up with anyone, but to be blunt...other than Aroc (in my clan), hardly anyone sends out invites to party up. I think due to the above. I just end up playing solo, it's easier. I know what I need to get it. I don't need people/friends to help get it...so I just go grind alone. I don't think that's the case with the Raiding stuff though. Obviously, you need groups there.

Good friends will make their goals overlap with your own. We can have a party of 6 going trying to meet everyone's needs.
The Denk Bros (at least on XB1) seem to have been doing a good job helping each other out... We even did a last minute fail raid last week to try to get people some loot before the reset. I just need to get a few guys into the raiding fold (looking at you Night/Hebb bros/Beavenge) since this week unintentionally turned into hard mode week (my fault completely) for our highest level players.

Not hating there. 99% of what you do in this guy, especially in the 20's levels, is very item specific. Goals don't mesh. Like I said, I can be just as guilty as the next person. Last night, I just ran around for a while and collected Helium Filament. Loads of fun!!!

I know in DDO, that so long as you were honest, people didn't care about goals too much, so long as everyone got their ends met (ie: we'll farm ____ for an hour, then ______ for an hour, etc etc) Or you grind extra excess elements to sell or equip to a different character. It'd just be nice to have an ingame LFG feature... I hope that comes down the pipe, as one of the things that I've consistently read about Destiny is that they wanted it to be very group/social oriented. A feature, to someone like me, is a must

Yeah, that was awesome how you were able to get a raid team together on such short notice to help us out, especially with it being a Monday and everyone already having ran the raid multiple times. I'm now drowning in ascendant shards, which is a pretty nice problem to have. Just need to get some raid gear now. Anyone running normal raid tonight?

Yeah, as far as farming for mats goes I'd rather just do it on my own rather than waste anyone else's time, unless everyone needs the same stuff. I usually find plenty of mats just running patrols and public events anyway, and it's not like they're going anywhere if you don't collect them immediately. For anything else though I'm always down to party up unless I'm really limited on time and need to get something specific done like the daily story.

You are kind of missing my point (or I didn't explain it well lol) It has nothing to do with the quality of one's friends. There's not much you, others, or any party party of six can help with. Like last night? I needed Helium Filaments. What can anyone due to help with that? It's a solo thing. Just go run around pick up the stuff. It's easier to do this stuff solo, as after a few runs, you can develop a faster pattern and scoop it up quicker.

I guess I'm mainly doing missions to get my vanguard ranking up and company would be nice to help get the job done. I haven't really farmed mats yet... I think I only have 50ish spinmetals without really trying

Well, yeah, agree 100%. That's fun. No doubt. But no one wants to do circle patterns, it's boring (or am I missing something?) And if solo, I can bs with my wife while doing material farming. As well as most of the Strike missions. No stress, just run around plus talk with her about the day, do other things, throw the ball for my dogs, multi-task stuff, etc...
Vanguard Rep Pts was another one. Grind missions/strikes/whatever over and over. (I'm working on Lv 3 now)

I honestly wish they sold something that would double/triple the amount of vanguard rep you can get out of a mission... because I'd buy the $hitoutta that It only matters until you reach a certain point, then you stop caring as much. A few tips, though: When you bring up your ghost to find the things to pick up a mission, they have icons which correspond to what type of mission it is. For example, the triangle indicates you'll have to kill enemies of a certain type and pick up materials that they drop. Don't bother with the ones to scout a location unless it's super close, because most of the time they have you driving on the sparrow for what seems like forever. Always do the ones to kill a target, because those give you 25 rep instead of 10. Try to time it so that you're in an area when there's a public event (schedule is on destinypublicevents.com) so that you can do two birds with one stone.

You can see the icons here: destiny.wikia.com/wiki/PatrolYou want to do the left three, then grab one of the right two and if it's on your way to the next area you want to be in, keep it, otherwise, discard.

God bless you my firend... I've been effing around doing the 10's instead of the 25's Also, some of the scouting missions will put you under heavy fire and you are likely to die unless you are level 20. These include scanning the tunnel in The Steppes where three Hallowed Hive warriors spawn and I have seen a low level character getting one-shotted. Another one is overlooking the Fallen Walker just beyond The Refinery as you have to be placed in a very specific place to register your scout mission. I usually check for bounties to do at the same time, such as x (precision) kills, 6 patrol missions and then pick up the consumables along the way. Sometimes the scout mission in The Divide can be a pain as a Vandal will sometimes be using a fusion rifle against you.

I've actually found the Divide to be my go-to spot. The Devil Walker events seem to occur pretty consistently, as opposed to some other spots where you stand there and the event never happens. The area has a good amount of Spinmetal and loot chests (I'm currently sitting on 287 Spinmetal). Frequently you'll get the kill target missions and the target is right in the next area (I believe it's called the Breach) and takes 30 seconds to complete. Because it's on Earth, you can go there with very low level characters. Even though 2 of my characters are fairly low level, I'm able to do a public event with each by simply noticing when it's close to 15 or 45 past the hour, switching to a character with which I haven't done a public event yet for the day, heading there, and hitting up all of the chests and Spinmetal if I have a few minutes before the event starts.

So... yea... in 3 hours, I went from 390 to 660 vanguard points (granted, 1 was a 50 bounty)
I was doing it wrong.
As for the public events, I am able to do most of them, except for when a Captain or Knight comes in, and all I get are resists on him... or even worse, I'm hurting him and the bugger seems to start resisting my damage when it hits 1/4 health... yet I've done nothing different. It's like the game is messing with me. Oh, and is there much of a difference between gold tier and silver tier events, and what do they give me?

I would love to know. To give my non-knowing guess, you get more 'sh1t' for getting Gold done. Better stuff.
Someone also said before that for your first public event of the day, (first you do), if you get gold, you might also get a letter back at the robot mailbox, giving you a bonus prize. Engram? Ascendant Shards? Can't remember.
Someone also said, can't remember, that the public events are at 15 and 45 past the hour? Is that true/

Public event timer varies by location. Google "Destiny Public Event Timer" and you will see the schedule (or Stone, I posted the list on the HSV1 site last weekend).
Daily your first Gold Tier success always awards a package in the mail. I have received weapons, gear, engrams, coins, shards, motes. Variable, but always worth it.

The Captain in Mothyards can be a pain if you are soloing because, even if you have a high light level and good gear, you will still need to continue to shoot him otherwise his shield replenishes, which makes reloading a pain. It is usually advised to do this with one other person as you can reload your guns whilst the other person is dishing out the damage. Also, stay in front of it at a relatively short range to block its path and continuously go for headshots using an LMG. If you need to reload, use your grenade as they tend to stall when affecred by it (Captains crouch for a while). The Knight in Rocketyard may be a lot easier but you will need to mind surrounding enemies. Try and get one of each element for your weapons as these help out massively if you get to do the weekly heroic strikes as the enemies may resist or be weaker to a different element that in standard play. I tend to find void damage the most flexible for some reason.

I sat in a Patrol mode on the Moon this morning for 45 minutes with one of my characters, waiting to get a public event. NOTHING. I ended up reading a book for a while, before quitting. It might have hit an hour. No public event. Did it with my first character this morning, to try and get a shard. It worked there, but around 5 after the hour. The above second attempt, with the second character, ...nothing. Fvcking annoying.

The one for The Steppes usually never shows, or if it does, it drops too close to when the one in The Divide is on as that is often late. You can do the Daily missions to get Ascendant Shards on the harder difficulties. I usually do the level 24 one.

Despite trying to be, Destiny isn't a MMO. IT completely screws over the pacing and difficulty. Just playing the story means you'll be under leveled. Stop and play PvP for a while and you'll be over leveled and there goes some of the fun. . It's not just about being over leveled....the PvP is basically garbage. The PvP is a improperly thought out system that tries to integrate itself with the PvE at the expense of fair/balanced/solid gameplay. It's basically a FPS'er that is targeted to the squealing ten year old boys who likes overpowered explosions as well as gimmicky crap like ninja sword swinging sequences that speed up your player character animation to 1,500 mph. What type of bullsh1t is that? The more you play the PvP, the more you see how bad it is. People talk about rating the game badly....IMHO, Bungie is getting a free pass for this sorry excuse for a FPS. No amount of low rating would do this justice.
