.......Well, I didn't really get it done. I mostly rode piggyback on the expertise of others. So with that, a big thanks for ArocMathews for leading us through. And a big special shout out to PostMortem(dumien) for coming in on a pinch hitting role and helping to finish it off with his expertise. Thanks to both of you. And all the other guys too.
My thoughts? We initially did it kind of on a whim. Some of us were together and Aroc pushed us to do it. Ok. So we got rolling. Kind of a tale of two trips. Easy and hard. Aroc led us right through the first five or six stages, without really any issues. I think i only died a few times, setting aside me butchering some of this mario64 jumps and leaps at the end of the Gorgon maze. We rolled through to the final boss stage in under two hours? Something like that. Maybe even less. Things were going very easy. Maybe to easy (foreshadowing there....)
Then the final Atheon stage. We never lost our cool, everyone stayed in great spirits.....but we just ran into problem after problem. I think we were stuck here for like two plus hours, probably around 2 1/2. At first we spent like thirty minutes trying to push Atheon off the ledge like in the videos, to see if we could do it. No luck. Was that patched? Then we started the more traditional route, where we started slowly having issues. Lots of stuff going on. Afer about an hour of failure, i started to pick up on what all the roles should be doing. But still gosh darn golly gee whiz hard. We changed roles. Swapped things around. At least five or six times we got six or more cycles into Atheon, before failing. We just weren't delivering enough damage to him. At least this is what was told to me, as i am a non-knowning Raid person. I was just doing what i was told. I'm guessing some of the problems here were that four of us hadn't done it before. God bless Aroc for dealing with four guys who were mostly clueless.
So after the above kept going on.....i then had to get off. I hated to do that, but i had a trip tomorrow. So we searched around. Aroc got Dumien to come in a pinch hitter. This helped tremendously for all the obvious reasons, he's an expert. They tried two more times, but didn't get it. Then another two guys had to go. FORTUNATELY for me.........I still hadn't officially got off line yet. Aroc texted me, 'get the F back on!". So after explaining what was at stake to my wife, needing more time......i was back in!!!! Dumien also got one of his heavy-hitter friends to help too.
No kidding here, after coming out of the orbit, regrouped......we nailed it on our next attempt. Pretty Foxtroting cool. The extra experience in the group made a huge difference. Just a tad bit tighter, a bit faster in the rotations, quicker out of the teleportation, a slightly different attack tactic....boom. The deal was done. I'm sure dumien could better explain what we did better. Whatever it was, it worked.
Aftermath?
I was told i got very lucky. I got two pieces of raid gear. I guess this is good? I got some boots. And some Armor. I also got some shiny/glimmering bicep band. And a shader at the end. I picked up about six ascendent shards during the run too. Then when going back to the Tower right after, not sure if this was due to the VoG.....but i got a crapton of Engrams. Picked up two more pieces of legendary clothing, as well as four more legendary guns. Plus a strange coin.
Very fun night. Lots of laughs and a good time. Let the nerd dancing commence!!!

Gj Gj guys. Very impressed you guys got through the first bit quickly (especially with new raiders). If you remember back the first day that Raid came out...we got stopped cold at Atheon. He isn't a joke. Aroc is certainly turning into a great raid leader. The Hebb bros are also seasoned raiders now. Always a pleasure to help out if I don't have prior commitments.

I thought only one of the Heb brothers had done it before. Am i mistaken, it was both?
The Heb's were both very good.
I know myself, Bluntz, and Blunty had were first timers.

Congrats man! That is a crazy haul of loot, btw. I guess so, finding that out now. I have nothing really to compare it to, like those of you who have done it a lot. What I didn't understand is the legendary weapon stuff, some of the stuff I got when going back to the tower. I went to my mailbox and it was flooded with engrams (this is over and above my the other loot) Is that normal? Engrams for about three regular weapons/armor, but then two legendary armor pieces. Then a regular weapons, plus two legendary weapons. One was a scout rifle I haven't seen yet, the 'Vision of Confluence'. Is this typical too? Getting stuff back at the mailbox?

Fun times for sure! That's an epic loot haul too! I've ran it 3 times now, and have only gotten a chest armor last week and the Found Verdict shotgun this week. Everything else has been shards or energy. Now sitting on 58 shards with nothing to spend them on!
Found Verdict is going to be complete beast mode for crucible. It already has decent range and great impact, then there are 2 mods for better range and impact, plus it can fire full auto. I may never lose a shotty fight again!

This kind of thing is the story of Destiny as far as I'm concerned. Congrats, man! I would agree. I thought this particular Raid has a neat story to it (I'm sure they all do with that) Most of us didn't have a lot of time last night. That's what has been keeping me from it for a while now. Everyone was going to be needing to get off around 11 or so. I'm on a trip out of town today. Aroc had to be up at 5am for work. A few others the same. But Aroc twisted our arm. Said he thought we could get it done in 2 to 3 hours lol (I was skeptical, but he's always an optimist) So we decided to go for it, even though we were all on a shot clock so to speak. And when we rolled pretty well to the last stage, I was feeling like it was possible. But then (as described above), our troubles hit. Not just in the tactical stuff I mentioned, but we also had a few people lag out. Things could have gotten bad, people getting pissed and such. But no one did. Not once. We all just did what we could and had fun working together. What made the 'story' even better is how other friends came out to help out. One person who left, we replaced with a long time Xbox buddy Chum. Chum stepped in for about hour to lend a hand before he had to go. Then when I had to step aside, Dumien jumped in to help. The Bluntz had to go, I was able to come back in to help (after some explaining to my wife why the Raid was important) Getting the loot was nice, but the fun with being with friends is was made it great.

Found verdict and vision of confluence are fantastic guns. imo the best in class (legendary) for each. The vision in particular is my current favorite primary (though my new arc hand cannon is worming its way into my heart). It is a scout rifle...that fires full auto...and gets more acurate the longer you hold down the trigger... Also both those guns do more damage to oracles. Definitely fully level them up if you want to have an easier time in the raid.

Must have been engrams that dropped and fell off a ledge, or we wiped before you could pick them up, or something like that. I think I had 3 or 4 to turn in, all blues of course lol. It actually almost sounds like you had one of the raid loot drops go to the tower instead of straight to your inventory like normal. No idea how that would happen, but things did seem especially glitchy last night with my helmet not giving me the bonus golden gun shot that it's supposed to, mine and Aroc's SUROS Regime's not getting the slow ROF but more damage when ADS'd, portals not working right seemingly every other run, and on and on and on. Vision of Confluence is awesome since it's a primary that does Solar damage. Should be great for any activity with the Solar Burn modifier. I think Dumien had one for the Nightfall a couple weeks ago that made short work of anything that wasn't shielded in a different element.

Were you the 'heb' that was up on the high perch carrying my azz when I died defending the gates?

Regarding the portals, I didn't quite understand what was glitching with it. I did notice a few times, they sucked the wrong people back to Mars/Venus. Is that what you mean? That screwed us up a bunch.

That screwed us up a bunch. There actually were 4 rookies for the Atheon fight before you, blunty, and bluntz started switching out. THebb22 hadn't gotten to that point yet (ran out of time right before that stage on a Monday night, so we lost progress the next day), so that was all new for him. It was a really good showing for 4 guys who hadn't done it before, we just couldn't quite get things to go our way enough to clear it before guys had to start leaving. The portal glitching was basically, when we were in Mars or Venus, when we tried to leave, sometimes the portal doesn't send you back to the Atheon fight. You get stuck in Mars or Venus, like you walk right through the portal without actually getting teleported. Then you have to turn around and try to go through again, but if it works, you end up coming out on the wrong side in the Atheon room, like right in the middle close to Atheon instead of right where the sync plate things for the portals are closer to the back where everyone is supposed to be going to shoot Atheon. That'd all be fine, except you aren't getting cleansed by the guy with the relic that whole time, and your screen is progressively getting darker until you can't see at all, which makes it pretty much impossible to tell what you're doing. There were at least two times last night where that happened and I had to get to the back of the Atheon room with a completely black screen and the only thing I could see was everyone else's player names popping up. Pure dumb luck that I was able to make it both times without falling off a ledge or running into a supplicant.

Oh ok. That makes sense with what I was hearing.
When I was running the Venus/Mars portals with Aroc, I don't think I saw that happen. But that was before Dumien joined us. What was screwing me up at times was how it kept sucking the wrong people back into the portal. I know at least on two occasions, I was no where near being the farther three people back.

Yeah, usually the wrong people getting teleported happens when somebody on the portal team gets downed or stuck in the portal, which forces the game to teleport whoever is next closest to the back of the room instead.

That was definitely a fun time, and I was excited to get some good stuff out of it. I had already gotten some leg armor the first time through it, but was able to add some gauntlets and Atheon's Epilogue (Void Auto Rifle) this time around. While it may not be the best gun for PvP (haven't tested that yet) as it has minimum impact with maxed out RoF, in PvE, this thing is a mob wrecker...70 bullets in the clip with Void damage. I walk all over minotaurs (we'll see about Praetorians) and it gets an upgrade to do more damage to oracles. Despite the RoF being maxed, the recoil is pretty manageable and gets more stable the longer you shoot. Also, the bottom half the clip does more damage. I'm pretty excited to max this thing out and see what it can really do. On top of all that, it's just fun to use. I feel like I'm walking around with an effing mini gun. About like this.....
Also, as far as the actual group of guys goes, I was shocked things went as smoothly as they did for as long as they did. We got through those first few sections almost too easily. And once dookie hit the fan at Atheon, everyone kept their cool. I fully expected someone to start raging/yelling or quit out altogether, and that never happened. IW5k, you held your own just fine during the gate defending section. Blunty was having a little difficulty out there. I don't know if his weapons just weren't killing the supplicants good enough or what. Seemed like more often than not, him dying is what would end up getting you killed, by no fault of your own. Dumien taking over that role later on made our lives out there much easier, that's for sure. He was straight wrecking dudes. Once that swap was made, supplicants became pretty much a non issue, and we rolled through the rest of it. So thanks again to all members involved. Couldn't have done it without you guys!

Yeah, that did seem to happen a bit. Does he port the farthest in the back of the room, or farthest from Atheon? cause if it's the latter, that would explain a bit if he/she/it is hanging out on a different side of the platform. Experience was definitely a factor last night- so people like Dumien can have the black screen debuff and still make it through a portal and jump on the middle platform lol and I have to love on my Thorn a bit- it can 1 shot supplicants (on normal). can't wait for that buff!

Yeah imagine what it can do WITH the buff lol.
He teleports the 3 people (if no glitches occur) furthest from him. The way you guarantee the least amount of chaos is by having the relic team run to the back of the room (entrance) and have the supplicant team run to the left and right diagonally towards Atheon.

If an engram drops and you don't pick it up, it will be waiting for you at the postmaster. I believe any rewards you receive where you do not have any free slots will be waiting there as well. So if you receive a primary from a drop, but you're already carrying 10 primaries, it will go to the postmaster.

I also popped my VoG cherry last night. I ended up getting raid boots and the chest piece, and the Found Verdict shotgun. Can't wait to level my gear up so I can get out of level 26 again. At first I thought I got shafted because nearly everyone else in the lobby got exotic guns, until some of them told me that they would gladly trade them for some of my gear if they could. So it looks like a got a good haul all things considered. The raid was also pretty much the most fun I've had in this game. My team and I ended up spending an hour or so just screwing around the Gorgon maze. Good times.

Mal Gato finally gets in on the Vault of Fun. Brown (resolute here on the forum) and WunderMussle organized a group with 3 people that had never stepped foot in the raid and a 4th that had never cleared it.
We had a similar experience to you, Stone. We cruised through with barely any problems until Atheon. That one took us a long time, but everyone kept a great attitude. Dumien even popped in to party chat to say hi while we were pounding our head against the wall. It took a bit to get our sequence and rhythm down, but we perservered.
What did Mal get? Zero armor. Bullshit. Stone, you are frickin' lucky. But I did come away with two nice guns - Hard Light (exotic auto rifle) and Vision of Confluence (legendary scout rifle that can be fired full auto AND has fire elemental damage - that is sweet!).
Thanks to Brown and WunderMussle for leading us through. It was a fun group. The other members included AzzKickor, Leatherwood, and DISC1PLE. Good times.
