wittyscorpion, you probably think I am trolling you. You're kind of right. Just like last year, Taco Bell is running a contest. And just like last year, if you apply a little intelligence to it, you have really great odds. And thus, just like last year... I won a PS4. And this year it happens to be the Destiny bundle plus an extra 2 Destiny digital codes. I'm just going to give the thing to my brother, but I suppose there's not much reason to not redeem one of the digital codes for myself. So there ya have it. Not sure how long it takes for them to ship, but I'll at least have to give the game another shot (beyond the alpha/beta stage). Can't beat free, right?

I remember in one post long ago I said that "this is your Destiny", turns out I am right Too bad you will be playing on PS4. So instead of looking forward to listening to you bashing Destiny in XBL party, I guess I'll see you sharing your thoughts here

One of us... one of us... Gooble gobble gooble gobble. Prepare to have to spend well over 100 hours to get a whiff of where you need to be. I'm not too worried about it, if it doesn't grab my attention I'll have no problems dropping it. Especially with the fall blockbuster season upon us. Maybe it will be more fun now that I have a XIM4, or maybe mouse controls will just have me feeling that 30 fps even more. We'll see.

Official Ruleswww.winps4bundle.com/or text to 87654 Free play code: 3A6NNMH399L You can play the code once per day. You can have up to 5 people playing in a household, so if you sign up everyone (or just make up a couple of fake relatives that live with you), you're set for 5 cracks at it per night until the end of the contest. One PS4 is spit out in every 15 minute interval. Thus, odds are best when the fewest people are entering codes. Casuals will enter all day that Taco Bell is open and they're buying and seeing the contest on the boxes. I figure most Taco Bells are closed by midnight or so. I've been targeting 4am-5am ET for the most part (that's 1am-2am my time). Keep in mind that Eastern is the most populated time zone by far, followed by Central, and that Mountain + Pacific are only like 20%. I'd guess any time before 11am ET or so is decent to target. Depends on what your sleep schedule is like, and if you're willing to set up an alarm to be up at the best times. As for the mechanics of the contest, a random time is generated in each 15 minute interval, and then next code played is awarded the PS4 bundle. Presumably it can be generated for any second in that span. Some people think they may only generate a random minute. If that's the case you could dramatically help your odds by playing at the turn of a minute, except that I have reason to believe that their clock is skewed enough from official time that it's hard to say. There's not much downside to playing on a minute change, and that's mostly what I was doing, but my wins this year came when I entered a few seconds late on the minute change. Minute + 10s as measured by www.time.govThe free-play code went live at midnight, and I did hammer the refresh to see when it actually when live, that was midnight plus 26 seconds or so. It's perfectly reasonable that it wouldn't be the same clock that's running the game though. Simple way to test the game clock would be to play a code during the day on your email through the website, try playing it again with the same email. You'll notice you get a prompt rejection for having already played. If you watch time.gov around midnight, and just constantly retry that entry starting at like 11:59:50, when your entry finally goes through you'll know what 'true' midnight is based on time.gov. I was planning on doing that experiment, but since I won, there's not much point anymore. But, IF it generates a random minute instead of second, and the clock skew is somewhat significant, as I kind of think it is, then you can basically get your odds of winning at an odd hour down to 1/15, and given that you can do 5 plays in a day, those wouldn't be bad odds. It's hard to say how few entries there are at super odd hours. I'm guessing some of those periods might see fewer than 10 entries, I've seen plenty of people claim to have won on their first few attempts, it's kinda crazy. Now with the free play code available there's probably a significant uptick in entries. I didn't count how many entries I did last year, I'd estimate I won the PS4 on 20 entries or so. This year it was 2 wins on 37 entries. I'm really hoping this contest comes back again in 2015. OK Dumien, now go forth and win that Destiny bundle.

BUUUUUUMP OK, so after letting it sit around for the past 6+ months, I've finally actually played Destiny... not a ton, I'm at level 12 or 13 now, finished up the Moon stuff, except I haven't done the "Strike" yet. I have to backtrack a little on my Destiny bashing. For the first half of the Old Russia stuff it wasn't really clicking. But now that I'm a little further in, it is fun. Shooting stuff feels good. I like headshotting things. I like smashing those fast zombies that run up on you. The core gameplay mechanics in the PvE stuff are actually really good, well aside from the floaty double jump. I really wish that acted differently. The Crucible stuff on the other hand... I only have tried the Domination type game... but it's awful. It doesn't help that I went in without all the abilities... supposedly there's auto-balancing between levels... but at the same time, the guy with the special shotgun can one-shot me. I can't one-shot jack shit, or one hit melee for that matter, heck, I tried it out on an AFK dude, no dice. And I'm the Titan guy with the smashy fist ability. Oh, and I didn't have any 'heavy' weapons so, wasn't thrilled about getting blown up by rocket launchers either. Also, I think I've played around 7 matches... I got rewards at the end of the round exactly once. Seriously? I don't get something? Not even something shitty? Do I need to level up higher before I get rewards? It seemed like the high level guys were always getting something. I've played most of the content solo, so far, picking the hard version of the missions. Except for the Old Russia Strike Mission where it did some matchmaking. I remember running through that map with Dumien and wittyscorpion during the beta on XBO, after they had already gone through it once or twice. Didn't like it here for pretty much the same reason... I'm like level 6, and I get matched with some level 34 dude who is speed running through the thing exploding all the enemies without a care in the world. Don't people solo the Raids or whatever? Can you solo the Strikes? If so... how? Oh, and between Old Russia and the Moon, I've found exactly two treasure chests... and one was the one I remembered from the Old Russia Strike where those two showed me where to find it. I hope I'm not missing out on too much stuff due to my blindness here. Also it was kind of goofy as I did the Moon Patrol before doing all the Moon missions, so I ended up wandering through most of the areas that later made up the missions. It made it rather anti-climactic. On a technical level, the 30fps hurts. I hate it. The game is pretty, sure, but tone down the textures and effects a little, lower the resolution if you have to. Get it up to 60fps. Or at least put some of that motion blur you get while riding the Star Wars speeder bikes into the rest of the game. Like I said, I really like the core gameplay, but at 60fps I'd probably love it. Does this game really look that much better graphically than say the single player from Advanced Warfare? Personally I don't think so. The look mechanics aren't fantastic, I was happy to go casual mode and play it with the PS4 controller, but with a decently high sensitivity there's just too much dead zone followed by too much movement in the low end of the stick input IMO. Fine aiming adjustments weren't happening. XIM works reasonably well but the 30fps doesn't do any favors. The story is complete nonsense. I guess the Hive and the Fallen are two different things.. and they don't like each other, I didn't figure that out until the mission on the moon where they're fighting, and Dinklebot gives his commentary.... I wonder if I'll ever figure out which one is which. I think one must have Acolytes, and one must have Dregs... My biggest issue with the game though, still, is that it's for lack of a better word... totally gay. Chang help me out: Just keep clicking play on that as you read the rest of this. Like... it's made for people who think the Star Wars prequels don't suck. The speeder bikes sound like freaking Episode 1 podracers... Gayyyyyyy Space Wizards..... GAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY Weapons with names like "Her Benevolence"..... GAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY The Traveler... The Speaker... Guardians GAYYYYYYYYY The Temples of Whatever... GAYYYYYYYYYYYY Wannabe Jedi running around wearing capes.... GAYYYYYYYY The dances.... GAYYYYYYYYY Motes of Light.... GAYYYYYYY Voidwalkers and Sunsingers GAYYYYYYY Grimoire.... GAYYYYYY Glimmer... GAYYYYY OK, iw5000, you need to explain something to me. You hate nerds. You played sports... like... REAL sports. You remind me of Ogre from Revenge of the Nerds you hate nerds so much. Now, granted, I'm a huge nerd, but this shit makes me want to beat myself up for playing it. How can you get online with dudes and talk about fighting Space Wizards while keeping a straight face? Huh? Anyway, I think I'll go through all the content I can once... not sure if I'll make it up to the Raid or buy any DLC. If I ever really want to get into the co-op stuff it's kind of a shame that I'm on the wrong platform compared to the Den Kirson X-Bros. Nothing against the PS4 folk, I just haven't really played with any of them. Maybe if the game really grabs me I'll snag an Xbox copy since they're packing in all the DLC with the Taken King editions or whatever.

I feel like I am the best qualified to answer Pegasus, as what he wrote up there....almost echoes EVERYTHING I have written about this game. Stuff I have typed on here, and taken a good bit of grief for.
First point.
- I don't hate 'nerds'. The past nerd comments I have put up mostly related to the whole Esports gaming/competitive angle, especially when dealing with people who view CounterStrike as some holy bastion of competitiveness versus what goes on in CoD. I've used that term then, as a joking insult that as soon as you cross from real sports to 'E-Sports'...it's all basically nerds doing a bunch of thumb-twiddling. And if I'm insulting there, I'm insulting myself too. I have done a few MLG CoD LAN events. I have helped take a Clan to the top 20 in the world three times in three different CoD games. I am a nerd, who likes to Esport compete. But it is Nerd Sporting. I can't compare to the stuff I have done in real sports, on a national level. Anyways (probably just pissed off more people there)
Your points.
- The Plot. It is gay. Only a completely 'Living-a-Bubble-never-watched a Sci-Fi movie' Destiny player would call this plot good. It sucks on every level. It's dumb and makes zero sense. It's basically a Halo clone, with re-skinned factions, with half the Halo plot left out by accident. That bad. And it won't get better no matter how long you play, even if you get into HoW. In fact, Destiny's plot makes CoD campaign game look like a Shane Carruth 'Primer' script,...yes, Destiny is that bad. You have to get over it. Ignore it. Move past it. If you can't, you'll never get into Destiny.
- Crucible. It won't get that much better. It is 30fps, slower play but laggier than CoD, and rather than everyone playing for KD like in CoD, everyone is anti-objective because they are doing bounties. Same old shit. But keep a proper reference here. Despite the above, it's not that much worse than CoD AW....which while having better connections, 60fps, tighter gameplay, ....it has 300 mph exo-jumping which very well might be the most hair-pulling annoying FPS innovation ever. And keep this mind, Destiny made the Trials of Osiris. This might help this a little if you get to it. It's kind of like BO2's League play. The problem? Why i say 'if'? ........You can't play this solo. You can only play this WHEN you have three other people ready to go with the same mindset. This isn't easy to get together. I haven't even done it yet. It might be a great new Destiny play option, but if I can't play it....it serves me no good.
- Grimorie cards Why the fvck are you reading those? Good god, put those away. Go look at gay porn, your time would be better served.
- The intro stuff. This sucks too. It seems like the people who really find this initial story-stuff you do while going from level 0 to level 20, then to or near the max levels....are people who never played FPS'er games before. It is boring. It's worse than CoD's campaign, as the enemies in these stories have the dumb plot, and they behave like retards...just standing there all dumb like, getting shot in the head. This part of the game, you need to get through it asap. Why? ....
Why keep going?
1)The game is a GREAT social game, especially during six person raids. This is where the game shines. When you play the top-end content (which unfortunately, only about 3 in 10 destiny players reach)...the game can become quite fun, very tactical, and a deep FPS experience. Here's the deal. The social aspects only really come out, during this time. If you want to have fun with this game, you NEED to get to this point. The level of social fun is on par with anything I have ever done with CoD. Maybe not the quite the same exact thrill of beating human opponent as in CoD, but it's close. And in some respects, it can even be better than CoD...as with Raids & PvE....there's not that anger groups would get when losing. Only fun.
2) It has no exo suits. Nuff said.
3) You suffer from Obsessive-Compulsive disorders, like needing to collect stuff. I have this. This game will then be right up your wheelhouse. If you can get near the higher end content, ...this game & disorder can start to kick in. And it will. And you will then find yourself having fun while sucked into it, somewhat addicted, losing hours of your life. I did. Fortunately, I had an out. During the fall/winter/spring months, I have to get my kids up at 5:20am for school, and I don't need to be at work till 8:30, with a 5 min commute. I can find lots of time to play this game. 2 hours in morning, here, there. This can be fun in that way...as long as you keep things in check.

Pegasus: Glad to see that you are trying it, not sure if you are going to hang in here though . If you play long enough and get to the end game (Raid & Prison of Elders on the PvE side, Trials Of Osiris (3v3 elimination game type) on the PvP side), you'll enjoy the game a lot more. However, given you are playing multiple games across PS4/XONE/PC, I am not hopeful at all that you'll give Destiny that much time. But I assume that you are definitely going to get Halo 5, yes? It has the Destiny elements you like (e.g.: headshots), minus things you hate (30 FPS -> 60 FPS, unbalanced PvP -> everybody-has-the-same-start-with-visible-skill-division PvP, poor story -> at-least-a-very-serious-attempt-and-should-be-decent campaign, and a new social PvP that features 12 vs. 12 vs. AI Minions/Bosses + Vehicles. Most of the XONE bros playing Destiny are going to get it, hope to see you there too. BTW, have you completed the entire Halo MCC campaign in legendary? How do you like it?

markopolo, I don't know what that is... but I'm scared and clenching my cornhole right now. wittyscorpion, We'll see on Halo 5... the beta seemed ok, the 60fps felt good, I never got that into Halo multiplayer though. I'm probably more interested in the the Gears of War remake. Part of the problem is I really haven't played through MCC. I did a little bit of a couple of the campaigns in co-op mode, but you know how that launch was. It was hard to get working, the game would crash and you'd lose a bunch of progress. I just never got back into it. I might try to run through the campaigns solo before Halo 5 comes out, but that's a lot of games. On the old Xboxes I played through the original Halo, some of Halo 2, and played the crap out of Halo 3 couch co-op style. Those games didn't feel as good as Destiny to me. Part of it was lack of ADS, but it also seems like enemies were kind of bullet sponges that didn't really flinch or anything when you're spraying them. There's something very satisfying about the way Destiny plays that I don't remember from my Halo days. And just having a health bar for bullet sponge enemies makes it far more enjoyable to me. You get a better feel of what weapons are doing damage, where to shoot to get critical damage, how much of a bonus you're getting from critical damage. iw5000, I don't look at the grimoire stuff... but it keeps popping up "grimoire progress" and similar nonsense on my screen while playing and telling me to go bungie.net. I am not going to bungie.net. But it still set off my gaydar. Good to know that I'm not the only one with that same kind of reaction. It's totally gay, but it's fun, so we play it. I bet if I were 13 years old it would all seem awesome top to bottom, as I wouldn't even realize how ridiculous all the stuff in this game sounds. So maybe I'm just not the target audience, fair enough.

And any other PSNGuardiBro a friend request... The best part of the game is the social element and we got that in spades. There are elements of the game that suck, but they are overcome through comradery and a fun fireteam. And humping bradman's dead beach ball after he tried to gonch Tanniks

Pegasus: looks like you have bigger potential of getting hooked into Destiny than I thought . How about you do this: 1) play on the Dark (oops, I meant to say PS4) side first to see if the game can have lasting appeal on you. Make sure to at least play Vault of Glass Raid with PS4 bros before giving up, that's the crown jewel of the entire year 1 Destiny; 2) if you really enjoy the game, buy the TTK collector's edition on XONE side ($80) to get Destiny + The Dark Below + House o Wolves + The Taken King, and join us on the good side May the RNG Force be with You...

markopolo, I don't know what that is... but I'm scared and clenching my cornhole right now. It's no use... Just give in... In all seriousness, send me, Brad, Mannon, and Hawk... And any other PSNGuardiBro a friend request... The best part of the game is the social element and we got that in spades. There are elements of the game that suck, but they are overcome through comradery and a fun fireteam. And humping bradman's dead beach ball after he tried to gonch Tanniks Yep, definitely send me a friend request (thehawkny on psn). I'd be happy to walk you through everything and help you out.

FR all of us. The game is still on nightly, pretty much since launch ffs. Not many games can claim that. Any of us will gladly drag your ass to high levels. Everyone is right. Do not give in until you've done the raid. Ignore the bad bits. The good far outweighs it all.

Regardless of what you do Pegasus...take this free advice here.
Talk to people on here before you did anything you aren't sure of in regards to grinding Destiny. Destiny is the God of all Video Games in regards in time-sucking. Seriously, no joke. It can send you on dozens of hours of endless chasing for shit you don't really need. And to make this even more of a problem, the game itself doesn't do anyone any favors in terms of helping new players out. In terms of what to do, where to go, what is and is not efficient. But if you ask questions on here, talk to those who have done the 'grind'....they can easily help you cut that bvllshit time in half. Easily. Get you to that 'fun zone' where you are high enough level (lv 30 to 34)...where you can start doing the really cool stuff. The sooner you get there, the better your time will be at Destiny.
If it wasn't for this board, I would have quit Destiny a long time ago.

If it wasn't for this board, I would have quit Destiny a long time ago. This, for sure. There's almost always a quicker, easier, or more efficient way to grind something out than what you initially think. You're actually kind of lucky to be starting now, as a lot of the time-sucking things have been removed or shortened significantly so you won't be sinking a ton of time into pointless, repetitive tasks like material and chest farming. Outside of that...yeah, the story blows. It's gotten a little better with TDB and HoW releases, but it's still nonsense for the most part. I'm hoping TTK will change that and start to tie some things together, but if not, I'm ok with it. The co-op/raiding experience is what I came for, and it's what will keep me here. There's actually a ton of background and story info in those gaaayyy grimoire cards -- why they didn't actually put that stuff in the game itself is beyond me.

I agree with your assertion that the story is "gay". I assumed it was just because it was sci-fi. It's pretty difficult to look at any built out sci-fi universe and not think that. And yes, the story is shallow, but that doesn't bother me. Did you see John Wick? That's pretty much what I'm looking for in a story anyway. Spend 5 minutes establishing why I want to kill everyone (they killed my dog and stole my car!) and then just let me do it.
Also, because of the 10 year commitment to the game, it makes sense to me that they would make the story vague and open-ended, to allow them to flesh it out over time, and be able to pivot and change directions.

To be fair Hawk...the plot/story isn't a train wreck because of some Master plan, where Bungie is going to pull a GRR Martin plot twist and blow our minds. IMHO, there's no open ended anything here. The plot sucks because Bungie had internal issues with people leaving, cuts, and missed deadlines. So they dropped the game to the public with an unfinished product (in terms of plot). This has been documented all over the place, with breaks in the story. And for the record...the above made no difference to me with my enjoyment of the game.

gosh darn golly gee whiz, was excited to hop on and do some Destiny and boom, PSN is down. Go figure. I'll add PS4 players from this thread when I get a chance, my PSN ID is "Franzy". I figure I probably want to hit level 20 is it (?) before I start crashing your fire teams or whatever. Seems like there's still a bit for me to do solo. iw5000, I'm not worried about the grind. I can sink decent amounts of hours into games. Though Destiny is stuck splitting time with Battlefield Hardline and Titanfall right now. And I get it, it's bullshit RNG loot. If I don't find the end game fun, I'll just drop it, their manipulative psychology will have no hold on me. It's all good. I agree with your assertion that the story is "gay". I assumed it was just because it was sci-fi. It's pretty difficult to look at any built out sci-fi universe and not think that. Well if you don't like sci-fi I guess it would all be pretty gay. Even though it has some gay elements, I don't consider Mass Effect gay. It's fairly well thought out, it has sci-fi ideas behind it, even if it's plain as day what sci-fi franchises they're ripping off. I can play those games, enjoy the story, and not feel like an idiot. I admit it's possible I'm just deluding myself about levels of gayness here.
