Still no raid gloves, still stuck at 29. I'm the only person on my hard-mode raid team without a full set of gear. They are gimping themselves raiding with me instead of another 30 (which we know plenty of). This loot system is horseshit.
The new Civ game comes out Friday. I'm thinking I may just hand the reins over to Hawk and put this turd up on eBay and be done with it. So fed up with this. I'm not having fun anymore.

Yeah, I was playing with my friend and he literally got 8 rare drops and 2 legendary drops in a generic level 22 strike and I got 2 uncommon and 1 rare. It's quite annoying how random the drops are.

I've only done the raid 4 times, but in those 4 times I have not received a single piece of raid gear. RNG hates me.
Random is random.

This my oppinion:
Imho, lvl 30 does not have to be the end goal, having fun with your Friends is. I don't think bungie wants to have all their players at 30 either. I also don't think the lvl cap will be increased in the next two dlc. The next dlc's will be about getting different raid gear instead of higher raid gear. Or, getting those missing pieces you were not able to get in the vault. Why? Because the vault on hard is the only lvl 30 mission. It is for those die hard fans, who played way more then the average players.
Therefore, raid gear is not given away for free.
What would you prefer? Everyone completing the raid on hard mode gets a full raid set + the mythoclast? That would have been boring, and nobody would be going into the vault anymore. I can't stress this enough, but members of this board tent to forget this is a role playing game first, fps second.

Level cap is being raised to 32 in December.
And raid gear given away for free? I've been raiding for what, five weeks? Full raids, and I've now shifted to hard mode only (instead of foolishly doing both). There are only four pieces of gear you can get. Do the math. Random drops are antiquated and a sign of poor game design in 2014. They're using it to cover up lack of content (which, hey hey, they apparently cut to release as an expansion. Thanks, Activision!)
You know what I got from the Nightfall this week? 2 ascendant shards. Yeah, thanks, Bungie.

I likely have more RPG and MMO experience than 99% of the people on this forum (if not everyone). I haven't "forgotten" what this game is. I know how this stuff works, and I've seen it evolve over three decades.

More ranting from me: hard mode Atheon dropped TWO HELMETS for me last night. That's two in one kill. Never mind I already have the helmet. I can only wear one, and it drops two at once. Who the frak coded this thing? Did Bungie use chimps?

Who the frak coded this thing? Did Bungie use chimps? It's just entirely random.... . Don't forget though that you still do get gear which you can dismantle, opposed to other games where 4-5 people out of 24+ do get 1 item for the raid while needing 4-5 items to complete a set and get the full bonus (raiding 4-5 nights a week for 3-6 hours each over a years period and not getting at least 4 pieces while others have fully equipped second/ third characters is not fun at all) I completely agree with you that randomness is utterly stupid, I've experienced it for 2 decades across various games. I stated before that this is not rewarding player but driving player away to a point where they throw the game away instead of getting to a point they want, put it aside for something else and come back as soon as you are done. And who ever said that you can't have 3 lvl 30 and still enjoy raiding with your friends?!

You know what I got from the Nightfall this week? 2 ascendant shards. Yeah, thanks, Bungie. That's all I got from my Nightfall Strike run last night. I got more stuff from the Weekly Strike set at level 28. At least I got nine rare coins there plus a few weapons I didn't need. So don't feel bad. I'm also in the same boat on the level stuff. I got two pieces of Raid gear on my first normal level VoG try. Since then? I've done the normal mode a few times and the hard mode once, and have not gotten a single piece of gear. I am still stuck on level 29 too for two or three weeks. And not just stuck on it. I am stuck on level 29 with a sh1tload of inventory. I am up to like 40 ascendant shards right now too. And to the person up there who said, "just have fun"....ok, that was qupie. Look. It's not that simple. 'Fun' in Destiny is predicated on keeping up with the bros as they move up the Destiny "Random Loot" bvllshit game. If you don't keep up in that process, you can't keep up as the challenges get harder. Take last night. I went to do the Weekly Nightfall Strike. I felt bad though because one of the guys I have played with for years, (and have been playing Destiny with) couldn't do it with us. He was only level 24. He ended not joining us and then ended up getting offline. Crap like that, never happened once in like eight years of CoD playing. The lame " oh, you can't join us, you haven't logged enough hours" bvllshit. The shot clock is ticking on this game for me. I'm not going to let a bunch of lying sleazebags at Destiny keep entrapping me in this endless time waste/loop of waiting for random loot, just so they can cover their azz with their shortcomings on content. Some of you guys are getting played for suckers.

I was wondering.. GodMars & iw5000 did you die during the raid? If not dying doubles the reward (not proven theory and proven wrong for raids in case you didn't die), this may be a way to double your chances?!

Are you saying if you die during the first stage, you'll get better odds during the first loot chest?

We've had multiple Vex's drop in a single raid. We've had people get full sets of gear in a single raid. Everyone who got big drops pretty much died as much as anyone else there. No rhyme or reason; just random.

Ive only raided twice but that's a fair assumption. Both times i was the lowest level amd the least experienced of my group, and first time around i got boots and second time i got confluence and monte carlo.

There is a real luck wall to this game... not a skill wall...
If it makes you feel better GMars, General Ice (Norichan) is in the same boat as you. He has 3 level 29s and never gets boots.

Is the difference between 29 and 30 really that important for hard mode raid? Honest question, I'm only just now about to hit 29 with my Hunter and haven't tried hard raid yet, but I was under the impression that a team of 30s and 29s should be ok and that having all 30s wasn't that essential. At least that's what I was hoping -- that 30 was more of a symbolic achievement than a necessary one, at least until expansions start dropping. FWIW, I was stuck at 28 for three weeks due to shitty raid drops if that makes anyone feel better! At least I have 80 something shards banked so I'll be able to upgrade anything new that I get without having to grind those out. Seriously though, you'd think they could implement a system that knows what raid armor you've already obtained, and make it so you couldn't get duplicates before receiving all 4 raid pieces. Make it so if there's theoretically say a 10% drop chance for any given piece, once you have 3 pieces those drop chances get added to whatever piece you're still missing, making its drop chance 40%. Maybe not a perfect solution, but it beats the hell out of getting 2 helmets on the same drop. That's just dumb as hell. To your point iw5000 about your friend and keeping up with the bros, I think that's pretty standard in any MMO or RPG style game. That's just the way it works. I couldn't start playing WoW today and magically be able to go right to the endgame, highest level content in a few days, could I? No, and I shouldn't be able to. Comparing endgame content in an MMORPGFPS/Shared World Shooter/whatever Bungie wants to call it to CoD multiplayer just isn't fair as the only thing they really have in common is they're FPSs at their core. I do agree entirely that the randomness inherent in the some of the processes needs to be toned down, but going from 24 to 26 or 27 (i.e. high enough to attempt endgame content) isn't random at all in terms of the process required to get there. Hit Vanguard rank 2 and get enough vanguard marks to buy 3 or 4 pieces of legendary armor -- assuming you don't find any or can't buy an exotic from Xur in the meantime. The only randomness there is in how long that process will take, which is entirely dictated by how much time you have to play. Even starting with no vanguard rep and no marks, that's easily achievable in 15 days assuming you get no help from RNGesus, with the limiting factor being the 100 marks per week cap. You're in total control of that situation, unlike the raid gear drops which there's nothing you can do except keep raiding every week until you get them. Might take a week, might take a year, which I think we all can agree is absolutely terrible design logic.

Hawk finally got his boots last night, leaving me as the last 29er in my raid group. Just ridiculous. You should be rewarded for effort and success, not blind luck. Bad game design is bad.

Heb, many (if not all?) of the enemies you face in the hard raid are level 30. As a 29 I'm doing 25% less damage to them and taking 25% more from them. The more 30s you have in a raid, the easier it gets. We were at hard-mode Atheon within an hour last night.

Dupes and random stuff is standard mmo fair.
Bungie doesn't want people beating/maxxing out their characters within a month or two of getting destiny. That's a COD mentality.
Once the new update comes out, they'll relax this stuff and focus on the newer stuff

Once the new update comes out, they'll relax this stuff and focus on the newer stuff It was standard MMO fair a decade ago, but no longer. Outside of the grind-fest Asian MMOs, Western MMOs largely work to reward effort and success with their loot systems. Also, most devs have recognized alts as being one of the key factors in keeping players playing their games. Randomness keeps players stuck focusing on their mains, leaving them frustrated, feeling stuck, and wanting to move on to anything else (likely not the game they are playing).

Since I'll be 29 today or tomorrow I was looking forward to potentially running a hard raid for the first time. If it's going to make a huge difference, I might just hang out on normal instead until I get boots to drop.

The kids might not mind blowing hours on this stuff, but us old folks want to go to bed.

I wrote in another thread that I had 2 strikes recently where I didn't die at any point and was rewarded 4 instead of 2 items at the end. However, unless more people can report the same happened to them, this is nothing but a speculation as well as if that worked, if the same applies to raids/ missions etc. and or someone comes up with an explanation for this to happen.

The game already implements trading. Why not just allow people to exchange say two Hunter boots for one Hunter gauntlet? Why can't Bungie just do that?
btw...quick question. Where does one trade in materials for marks? Like trading in 25/50 Helium pieces for something else?

Material trade in for crucible marks is straight ahead and down the stairs. It will be the guy on the left before you get to the room with the faction people in it (hunter, titan, warlock advisors). The Vanguard Mark trade in spot is the vendor to the right of the Shipwright that sells the guns for Vanguard Marks.
I can tell you that for the HM raid I use the Vision of Confluence for Oracle rounds and a Maxed Devil You Know hand cannon and maxed Light/Beware fusion rifle and either a void Rocket launcher or Void HMG. I swap to Ice Breaker for oracle phase.
The most important weapons for the HM raid IMO are the Icebreaker and something that does bonus damage to oracles because they have quite a bit more health in HM.

I have they Vision of Confluence And Hex Castor (high RoF/100 auto rifle) max leveled.
I have the IceBreaker one step away from max level.
For Heavy...I have the legendary Swarm (lmg) and SteelOracleZ11 both two steps away from max level.
