I saw a video on Reddit of someone going toe to toe with a captain by ducking under his melee. Not sure it'd work with a relic, but could be worth a shot. I just stuck mostly to the faster attack and stunlocked him then when he backed away I jumped up and did the heavy attack smash. Good times. Part of me still wants melee weapons to really be a thing in Destiny. heh This third person hacky slashy stuff is kinda fun, but needs variety. Not sure if you have ever tried this, but if you haven't..... you would be shocked at how stupid some of these monster AI is when you get right in their face. When I am doing certain missions, repeatedly, and trying to intentionally die....there are times they won't even be able to kill you if you stand right in front of them or to the side.

Yeah I had a knight with a gun that was barely able to kill me in the 2nd Eris mission so I could beat up on more Thrall with my fusion rifle. If I rushed up in his face he would just keep backing away instead of smacking me with a melee attack.

TBH..... I pressed the triangle too long and whipped out my machine gun and destroyed them that way.
I effing hate fusion rifles. I might just drop the bounty... it's too much of a pain in the ass for me to do.
Plus, when Xur comes to town, I get to do the next step of my exotic bounty for my machine gun... so I'm pretty much going use it as much as possible... I need 500 points with it (1 for a kill, 3 for a precision kill) so no fusion rifling for me

Really man, just start up that 2nd mission on level 25 and when you get to the spot with the Thrall hang back and pick off the knights and shiz with your TDYK then run up with fusion rifle in hand and wipe out the thrall 3 to 5 at a time easy peasy. If you don't finish the bounty go up the steps where they keep coming out of and let the knight inside kill you. The waves that come from the room all line up perfectly, especially if you stand at the bottom of the steps. Should take you no time to earn the rep and marks then you can retire the fusion rifle again for a bit. ;3
I'm not a fan of them either, but I do occasionally find them useful as a longer range shotgun, mostly for taking down shields on enemies I can't get enough distance from to really use sniper effectively due to the massive zoom level on most of the scopes. (I REALLY want to just yank the scope off my sniper rifles. They would be far far more useful. It's a shame they borrowed a note from CoD and made the hipfire complete shite instead of being fairly accurate like in Halo.)

Fusion rifle is one of the best weapons in the crucible.
And in the right circumstances, can be very effective in the PvE.

Yeah... I hate them in Crucible, especially when other people are using them. ;3 Though I'm keen to see how well Plan C stacks up in IB.

But whatevah.... I'll get er done. I'm also annoyed that the new hive weapons Murmur is a fusion rifle >:< I'm not a fan of them either, but I do occasionally find them useful as a longer range shotgun, mostly for taking down shields on enemies I can't get enough distance from to really use sniper effectively due to the massive zoom level on most of the scopes. Their damage needs to be.... tripled or something like that. Honestly, I can't even 1 shot a level 4 dreg with one. As for hipfiring sniper rifles... imho, it just shouldn't be allowed unless you're upclose against a big tall monster (ie: a blade of crota) and it should kick with such force that you're looking up to the sky. But that's just me

I'm not a huge fan of dying on purpose, but with this mission you get quite a few waves. It might even be possible to get all 20 in one go without having to die if done right. At the very least you could get the bounty with only one reset to kill them twice. So many perfectly lined up thrall to feed your fusion rifle! Or you could just run the whole mission twice. It's fairly short, but the final battle is pretty big.
BTW speaking of the final battle I found a good spot for the Ogre if you have trouble with it. All the way at the back across from the window you can go behind the platform and there are railings. You can shoot at it through the railings and he has a pretty hard time hitting you through the railings if you keep moving. He can, so watch out for that, but I think his beam attack is actually a stream of pretty thick projectiles and they usually impact the rails.
I'm of the opinion that Sniper rifles should be balanced by rate of fire, magazine, ect. The zoom factor shouldn't be used as some sort of nerf to try to balance them because rather than balance them it just changes the use to the point that people run around quickscoping instead and the overzoomed in scopes make hardscoping nearly impossible so quickscoping is even more important. I think this is what I don't like about snipers in Destiny. I'm an oldskool hardscoper. I like to grab some cover and knock down 4 or 5 targets before I unzoom, reload, and move. As is I'm hard pressed to even track single targets if they move at all. Sniper rifles are only useful against completely stationary targets for me. Luckily in PvE the enemy does go stationary quite a bit so it comes down to timing unless you can get a good LONG range. Even at medium range your target takes 3 steps one way and they're hopelessly lost off scope.
Honestly I think all the special weapons have issues and I usually just avoid using them unless I really need the firepower to put down a tough enemy. I know that the zoom and the charge time are to counter the firepower of those weapons and shotguns... well just kinda have zero range. It's annoying because the only one of the special weapons I think is fun to use (shotguns) suck, but the ones that perform well I don't find fun to use. I think we need at least 1 more class of weapon for all three types and shotguns really need rebalancing to at least be stronger in PvE. It's especially sad because you would think they should do tons of damage up close so they should be good for taking down shields in CQC, but they suck...

I'd have thought only having a OHK body multiplier to the head would be enough. This is why I'd rather have a sniper rifle that has a red dot sight or ACOG because I would actually dragscope with them, whereas the Epitaph I've had to chance my luck with popshots usually being quickscopes. Given they are competing against fusion rifles and shotguns, I find sniper rifle usage minimal at best for PvP.

I beat the thralls, get into Rasputin, check out the console, $hit kick the shreeking wizard Omniwhateverthef$$khernameis, have her disappear, then she comes back and summons a bunch of other wizards who summon a bunch of other mobs and I generally I die there. An ogre.... eff me

Naw, you can do it even without me. Bring a solar sniper for the wizards and TDYK the rest. MG, rockets or Super in case of emergency. It also didn't hurt that I can radiance myself which I think I had to do once because I F'ed up. Also Sunsinger is solar so my grenades chew through wizard shields.
Seeker grenades might be better than AoE for the wizards. Hard to stick them with it in the face and they can just float out of it pretty quickly.
Oh yeah in other news I capped voidwalker so my warlock is now maxed out in both subclasses. Now I can go back to just running whichever I feel like. (Mostly Sunsinger...) ;3
As for strategy just get up next to the entrance doors to pick off the wizards. Watch out for Thrall and keep the knights occupied by popping a few shots over the rail at them from time to time. Don't let them come up and root you out of your cover. If they do jump over go to the other side (by crossing in front of window) and jump up to the other one. When the wizards and knights are all dead jump down and get behind the platform the console is on for the Ogre. Watch for acolytes, but really you can 1HK them with TDYK.
Stay out of the green stuff.
I'll try to be on tonight if you want to run it together.

I didn't either. Had to do some shopping and spent the rest of the time doing BL2 with GF. (Always walking a tightrope there when it comes to playing PS4 because it is time not spent with her. Hopefully last night bought me some PS4 time for this weekend. heh)

If she enjoys BL2, I can't see why she won't get addicted to Destiny. If both of you are playing this game, well, all problems are solved a) Christmas gift for the princess: check b) GF actually happy about you playing Destiny: check c) Quality time with beloved: check d) A full team for VoG/CsE no spoiler runs: you / your GF / your brother / Marko / Marko's wife / Marko's son: check (OK, I am just kidding for the last 2 )

tl;dr It's not happening...
Some big problems with that:
1. PS4's still expensive and I'm broke. (She would murder me.)
2. I helped her upgrade her PC and start actually using the mouse for games (she used a controller for BL1 even though we played on PC) and now she is 100% PC master race and won't even consider a controller for anything but driving.
3. She isn't into Destiny. It has elements of Halo and BL2 which are both games we have played, but it's different enough that she isn't into it. In fact we don't play BL2 the way most people probably do. We are only going to play through once. In fact she hates when we have to go back to the same area to do another quest instead of it having a new area. She doesn't like repeating things. With Destiny she would only be interested in finishing the story then she'd be done with it, and we already know that's probably the weakest part of Destiny's design. She's watched me play some and all my patrol grinding also hasn't helped.
4. She has no interest in the new consoles. So far I've only barely managed to convince her they aren't just a big ripoff to force players to upgrade over and over despite how outdated the last gen consoles are now. I think the only console she would be okay with me purchasing right now, (if we had a LOT more money) would be a WiiU so we could play Mario Kart.
So yeah, it's complicated. She also has no interest in GTA. To her it looks like a less interesting version of Saints Row where you can't design your own character and has no decent co-op... Eventually, if Halo 5 actually turns out good, maybe she'll approve an XBOne... but then we'd have to play in wretched split screen. heh heh (I finally convinced her split screen was not as good as dual consoles by playing Halo 4 on dual 360's with her, then we wanted to go back and play Reach and had to go buy an extra copy.) But two XBOne's... pretty much not happening... probably ever. I'm also not sure about Halo 5... Halo 4 was gorgeous, but the game was... not that great, and the end went full retard. MCC is having lots of issues that aren't giving me tons of confidence that they got their shit together... But, meh...

That's too bad, missed opportunity Regarding Halo 5: keep an eye on the Halo MCC thread on the "Other games" subforum, I will publish my thoughts regarding MP once the beta becomes available after Christmas. Won't know anything about the story missions until way later though.

Yeah, and GF is purely interested in story missions for co-op, although I enjoy some MP and what I've seen looks interesting. Both PS4 and XONE will become cheaper next year (XONE is already at sub $350 with 3 free games included), and you can buy XIM to use mouse and keyboard instead. Also, opinions can change once your GF gets to see you play the Raid. Halo 5 is 343i's chance of redemption, and hopefully they will at least have a solid campaign. So: there is still hope to see you and probably your GF on XONE playing Destiny together with us , maybe for Destiny 2.

I dunno... GF changing her mind on Destiny is... a long shot. Having the $$ for two consoles, 2 copies of Destiny, and 2 subscriptions to gold.... I need a BIG raise, AND some bills paid off...
I'm not saying never, but realistically... maybe in like 5 years. heh heh Unless Santa has other plans. I never know. Things happen sometimes.

I have good news for you: on XONE (and I was told same for PS4), you only need 1 copy of any game as long as it is digitally purchased, and 1 XBL gold. They can be shared by 2 players (preferred to be closely related, due to privacy concerns) on 2 different XONEs. Now think of it: this might be your ticket in to convince your GF to get on console.

Oh yeah. I forgot about that. I don't know the specifics on XB1, but on PS4 I believe you can play any digital game you've bought on anyone's console and anyone else can log into the console you have registered and play any game you own. It would require us to criss cross, though. We would have to register one console, but login and play on the opposite console. On PS3 you have a lot more flexibilty, but I think that's the system for PS4.
Still... I can't even afford the console, much less the game and two subscriptions.

Ran the 2nd Eris mission with marko. We tried it on level 30 to start and got through the first of it okay. The wizards were a lot tougher than when I did it on 25, but we pulled through. Then we hit a snag at the Ogre, mainly because two knight ultra's pop up and my little spot for the Ogre was equal distant from each, but not far enough away for us to kill them before they got to us... at least we weren't able to. Maybe with super, heavy, and/or special and grenades all well times we might pull it off. Trouble is there's two. I did think, "hey we should focus fire one of them then kite the other" but then when we got to it I didn't want to turn my back on the other one and didn't follow through. We tried again and wiped a few times then just dropped it to level 25 because with two knights up and the ogre and all the green shit on the floor it was very very hard to kite at all.
I still think we can do it, we just need better tactics. Firstly IF we go back to the spot behind the podium with the knights I can't puss out. We need at least one to die ASAP so we should focus fire on it and just be mindful of the other one running up our backside. I also think I should change my grenades and switch to an MG instead of rockets so I don't whiff my heavy shots on moving targets and wizards, (though when you hit a wiz with a rocket it's pretty gratifying). I also need to save some heavy ammo for this spot and a grenade or two and super if I can. In fact maybe I should actually go on offense with my super for a change since I could toss tons of grenades and generate some orbs so Marko could probably get off an extra super after picking up my orbs and with his orbs mine should be back up quick anyway. I think if we do that and save some firepower for it we can actually hold the spot or at least kill one knight and severely wound the other.
And if that doesn't work then I say we stick to our defensive position by the door. There is enough cover from the ogre there and we can get a lot of shots on the knights as they come up the side. Once they get close we can bail over the railing, sprint to the other side and jump up there to do it again until they are dead, though we will have to run close to the ogre so better be on our game air juking his beam.
Which brings up another point... Maybe we should split up and each take a side... I think I prefer not to, unless we have to. We give up easy revives, but we would also split up the enemies and catch them in the crossfire. When a wizard fires on one of us they would be vulnerable to the other so that's good. The biggest downside is when they get close up on one side they would be impossible for the other to hit and thus keeping their shields down becomes a problem. Really, it seems like getting their shields down is the biggest issue and it's a huge pain unless hitting them with solar super or heavy. Once the shields are down they melt to TDYK headshots. Hell I even took it in the face on purpose last night to get the shield down (with solar fusion rifle) on a wizard that had next to zero health so Marko could finish him off and revive me. Totally worth it. If we're on the same side we can kind of tag team them and keep their shields down so splitting up puts a damper on that. (Though I think we can improve our tactics on that note as well. I was switching weapons a lot, but more for ammo than tactics. I think I need to focus on using super and heavy for shields then TDYK for health and try not to do the reverse because that just wastes ammo one way or the other as if I'm hitting shields with primary it takes too many hits and is a waste and if I use super on health then that's ammo I needed for other shields.) hmm...
I think we also really need to focus the spawns. Don't let them spawn unmolested, that's when they are most vulnerable. We need to hit them with whatever we got when they spawn in like we did a couple of times. It seems to make a pretty big difference. In fact I'm thinking we shouldn't even go up to the defensive positions until they get spread out and we need it, but if we can hit the spawns hard enough we might actually be able to stay out and on the offensive for a couple of them. I might even consider kiting some when my super is up with Marko up playing defense and sniper. If I can keep them occupied that might be a thing.
Other than that I'm also only a few light from level 29 so I think I can get that pretty easily. I went ahead and bought a helmet. None of the vanguard legendary weapons were appealing to me so I figured fuck it. I'll get new weapons later, in fact maybe I'll get some from Eris, who knows. My focus for now is to finish unlocking weekly and nightfall, do the Urn quest, and try to knock out the weekly and nightfall before they change. If I do that I will have 33 light Helmet and Gloves, 36 light chest (new voidfang), and nearly enough marks for pants. So I'm actually quite close to having all the armor I need for level 31.
Shards however... are a big problem. I have 5 shards... Voidfang doesn't need them anymore, which is nice, but the other pieces will. I'm not real sure what to do about that either. Just run public events and every daily I can I guess. Also need more helium since I used it on my old legendary items. ;3
Also IB coming up... I feel ill prepared. I have the gear now for level 30, but not the XP or resources and there will be 31's and probably 32's in IB. Then again I ran the last one at 28 and did well even though 30's were pretty tough. Unfortunately I don't have a legendary AR so it's either my best rare one or maxed out TDYK which requires me to be on my game and more precise, (but held up pretty well last time). Hopefully 32's will still be rare and if I can make 29 then 31's will be no tougher than the 30's from the last one.

Did another Eris mission and some bounty grinding working towards that Urn bounty for the gloves. When I turned in a blue engram, bam! Legendary gloves. Nice! Okay so no rush on that quest now after all since I already have 33 light gloves. That means the only slot I need now for level 31 is boots and I nearly have enough marks for them. Just gotta get lots more helium and shards. heh
Also... Murmur is my new best friend! It's a not shit fusion rifle and sounds cool.

Finished lots of bounties, bought 33 light boots. I now have all the armor I technically need for level 31. (Although 1 is upgraded voidfang.) Now I severely need helium, iron, and shards.
I also ran then weekly at the lowest difficulty. Those damn wizards were tough! Final battle took me a while even though I didn't run it on the harder difficulties. Good times.

Grats bud!
Kinda doing the NM ranking as well as eris bounties at the same time. I really want that higher impact AR that NM sells.
Eris will be around for a while; while it's fun whoopin' hive, I'm not in that much of a rush

If we get a chance tonight we might make a run at the weekly for the coins. I pulled it off mostly solo on the lowest difficulty... barely. At the end I had been working on killing that damn wizard for a while and died and even wiped a couple of times when someone dropped in on me. Must have been from my friends list, but don't remember playing with them before. Then we fought it out for a while longer until we whittled her down.
Not that she was really super tough. She has arc shields instead of solar, and it's arc burn. So if I nailed her with a shot or two from murmur her shields would pop. The hard part is that she flings arc shit back at you and about 3 hits is all it would take. Plus she's got friends. Generally I would take out all the adds except for one knight with a cannon. He stays in the back and keeps ducking and every time I killed him she would spawn more enemies and I'd have to start over so I quite bothering with him, though he can be a problem. Just one direct hit from him nearly killed me. Two close hits would do it. So basically it went like this: jump out to spot her and draw attention then duck back while she pummels the doorway I was just in, jump back out and take her shields down with murmur or rockets, hide again while she bombards other door, jump out and try to get some damage on her health but she usually retreats after her shields are down so I don't get many chances.
Having said that I think the key will be to actually be more aggressive with her, and teamwork would help. I could jump out and take down her shields with murmur and draw her fire, then you jump out a moment later and shoot her in the face with TDYK.
I have to say, this is a tough strike. I only had two modifiers on. I went in at 71 of 100 on the part of the Urn quest where you gotta kill acolytes and wizards with void damage, and was feeling pretty confident I'd whack that out since it was only level 24. heh Well... fact is I walked out of that strike at 0 of 100 due to dying a few times. And I switched from void to arc at the area just before the final battle, because there was no fecking way I was killing those wizards with void. (I think I finished off one with void sniper, then just went ham on them with arc and TDYK, because I wanted to finish the strike more than doing the quest.)
Anyway... I lost all my progress on that bounty and missed out on the doing a strike without dying one, but feck it. Between that and running a quick mission before I walked out with 5 completed bounties and 3 coins. Not bad for two missions. It's a nice addition to the strikes. Really fun! And by fun I mean I danced and tbagged the spot where she finally fucking died! heh I don't think we could handle nightfall on this one, though... Not without a friend anyway. Though with arc weapons... mebbe we could... There are plenty of your friends, the Thrall, by the way. ;p Really it was wizards that gave me the most trouble.

If you don't want to run the strike I'm up for grinding. I desperately need iron, helium, and glimmer. Thinking I might even go run that mars mission some for the glimmer, especially with IB coming. But upgrading my gear would really help in IB as well, and I mainly need helium for that. I may even purchase some with marks. Might as well, I've got all the armor I need and the vanguard weapons are meh... Can't use vanguard marks for faction weapons anyway... unfortunately.
