I did a quick run this morning. The Abyss and Bridge section, and recorded it. The nice thing here is i am not real good at the solo stuff, so its a video with an average Joe(me) doing it. Not some superstar Youtube solo player. Both my initial attempts were successful, so this is first attempt success. But a bit sloppy. So you get to see it, with some warts and all. But at least it shows how easy it can be. I did this with one of my Warlock's, running Solar grenades. Practice this, then you can go get all those shards, without needing other friends being around.
With the Bridge. I've been told the Titan is the easiest to solo. I don't have one, but it seems like the Titan's high jump makes it a breeze.
In my video below, i use a Warlock. I personally find it very easy with a Warlock. It's easy to get to the rock. Then either jump up on the ledge using the sword, or wait to it expires, it's easy either way. Again, a breeze.
Doing the bridge with the Hunter is not so easy. In the following thread, i have a video using a Hunter. You'll see it's quite tricky. You need to set your class to GunSlinger and do the 'triple jump'. This will still require a fair of trial & error, getting the timing down. As well as A LOT of experimenting once you get across on the landing rock. It's not easy.
Disregard my solo Thrallway attempt at end of this next video (after i completed the bridge). I didn't edit it out , so it was left on the video. I's a complete train wreck of screwing up.
this video shows some more details, about the ledge (where to land, how to land, etc..)...on part 2 of the bridge.

Here's a video, using the Hunter. This jump is really tricky as a Hunter

Is the first door to the chest glitched or something? Apparently it does not always open.

It's glitched... just leave and return and it should work

Looks like the design confused me. The chest is random so I let the Hive kill me and the chest is not beyond what looks like the second door. Radar lights up in that direction though. So I will stock up on these and hopefully have enough for HoW unless they have a separate currency for that. Some CE weapons interest me, mainly for Nightfalls and Weekly Heroics.
Loving the Dark Souls reference in the Raid.

Loving the Dark Souls reference in the Raid. The chest spawns in the rooms. Sometimes it's in the first couple rooms, sometimes it's not. From my somewhat educated guessing, it just seems to rotate randomly amongst the nine rooms. And one can, upon spawn, typically do a run through and look in the first three rooms without dying. So 1 in 3? Anything more than that is hard to do, staying alive. So at worst, one never has to die/respawn more than three or four times.

I thought it was 7. Not that it matters, unless you're calculating odds... I've only ever done the first room, looking for the light. Pretty fast but RNG can keep you trying for a while. I think IW's method of checking first three (looking for the lights, not actually checking each room) should be considerably more efficient. Each attempt would have have a 3:7 odds of success. Or per door you have 1:7, 1:6, and 1:5 odds per try. That's a lot better than 1:7 every time and having to come back from orbit.
For some reason to me going to orbit and back is anathema most of the time. I will waste twice as much time to do something if I can do it without going to orbit. I think it's because navigating the orbit menus and waiting through the load screens is boring and feels like work, where running around on world even if doing basically nothing is still kinda fun and engaging. *shrug*

Also since it's buried in the Iron Banner thread I'll repost this map from reddit here where it might be more accessible.

Maybe it is 7. Either way, you can easily hit three rooms on one pass. Odds are you'll have that chest pretty fast. But why orbit? If it's not there on a pass...just die. Then respawn in the abyss and do it again. The chest moves with each respawn. Not there? Just die. Then repeat. It will happen soon, you finding it. And then? Then a person can move on to their solo run. Don't have to go to orbit. Just go right into the whole entire Solo Crota run. And honestly? This is the most fun element of the game right now, running it solo. It's challenging in a skill based way.

Looks like 7 in the map and I thought you said it was 1 in 7 odds before as well, but it's not like I've actually seen them all having only made it as far as... uhhh lamp 8 or so, maybe 9? (There was a run where Marko was ahead of me beasting it solo and I was running behind. I couldn't catch up. For one all the lamps were out so full darkness for me. (Of course had I started to catch up I'd prolly would have just gotten blown up by one.) All of the Thrall were completely ignoring me and going for Marko, however. So I just kept running. It was pretty funny seeing Thrall catch up to me and pass me just like faster runners in a marathon without so much as raising an eyebrow at me. Of course once Marko died they quickly wised up and with my full darkness I didn't make it far. Good times, though... Also makes me wonder if we could use that somehow, but maybe skip every other lamp so we both have some lamps. Leader would be at risk, but if the thrall ignore the second runner he can kill Thrall with near impunity, just Ice Breaker with agility and either railgun or point blank hipfire it... Prolly unnecessary, but might be fun.)
Yeah yeah yeah... that's right. I was thinking suicide then I was thinking about other tasks you repeat and orbit popped into my head and stayed there... why I don't know. heh Been working too much. It would be much slower with orbit, but the 3 rooms still sounds much faster than 1. If you're only doing 1 it's just too easy to get on a bad streak and it take a nasty number of tries to find it.

the whole solo run is very fast. Watch the video. It's just a few minutes.
