This week, we're headed to the moon to take out everyone's favourite bullet sponge, Phogoth himself.
As for the criteria... the same as last week:
Epic - Heavily shielded enemies and highly aggressive enemies appear in great numbers Nightfall - If all players die, your fireteam is returned to Orbit Arc Burn - Arc damage from any source is greatly increased Lightswitch - Minions of the Darkness deal much more melee damage Angry - Minions of the Darkness won't flinch, even after massive damage
In the weekly, the only two criteria are Heroic and Arc Burn.
As always, come here to discuss loadouts, tips, and brag about your rewards or bitch about your lack of rewards

Just like last week, my loadout won't change too much
Primary: OEdict is my only arc primary so I guess it'll be doing a lot of the grunt work. I also expect to whip out my ADefiant for the solar wizards too
Special: Patience and Time for the stability and the crits... Icebreaker to take out the solars as well as regen ammo... maybe if I'm feeling saucy, Murmur for the arc/solar damage too
Heavy: Against All Odds arc machine gun (great stability and hits like a beeeeeeeast... it's like a big ol' scout rifle) and Hexen vengeance because I have no other solar rocket launcher.
Whatcha gonna run?

And since the phrase "cheese spot was frowned upon" Here are some spots that will make your Phogoth fight more... tactically beneficial This spot does work... I did it with bradman... but it's not as good as they make it out to be A new one that I've never seen before, but requires distraction to work and I dunno how successful you'll be if you get agro on Phogoth

One other piece of advice... make sure to get your bounties before you go to the moon... the Bigger They Are and The Cleansing Yeah I'm not forgetting this time. Forgot with two of my characters last time as I had an invite as soon as I logged in and when I was running Will of Crota for the 4th time to help a friend help I realised and he said to change character and rejoin but I thought I'd save the hassle by redoing it solo. Then when I tried it solo I thought it was too much of a pain for six Motes of Light. Looks like we may be back on rotation so The Nexus with void burn may be next week. Pity Cerberus Vae III has only had arc burn once (30/9/14) and that was before I got into Nightfall.

A nice video reminding us that you don't need to cheese Phogoth if you have the gear. Specifically the weapons. specifically, arc damaging LMG's. Taken from reddit... Remember... they start the video when he's down to the 2nd O in PhogOth on his yellow bar, but if you pound him quickly with Arc LMGees, you can knock him out before the first ship drops

And if you don't know about the back left rocks spot... here you go... with PICS! While it is a good spot for the regular strike or roc... I would hesitate to use it on the nightfall, due to ads and wizards and splash damage

Most nightfalls are actually incredibly fun when not cheesed, most of them are faster if you don't have to hide as well. Nexus is my personal favorite to do the "legit" way. Just stay together with three competent players and you will kill him in 5 minutes, with your heart pumping for another 5 minutes to come . Playing nightfalls without cheese really gives me that "5 kills before moab" feeling.

They can be a lot of fun. You need the right circumstances, though. You need really good and appropriate weapons, and friends. If you're lacking in either regard it seems like the only way to win is cheese. I also just generally don't like bullet spongy enemies who are extremely lethal. When the AI's TTK me is shorter than my TTK them that feels like boss or miniboss territory, not hordes of damn minions that are all hard to kill...
I also just find it MUCH less satisfying having to pound on an enemy's crit spot several times to kill them even with hand cannons and scout rifles. If I can't 1 hit kill even a lowly thrall I start feeling like I'm in grindy grind territory. Luckily I've gotten better weapons now and it's not as much of an issue.

I actually would like to run Nexus legit for a change now that we're better armed. That first time we tried and failed was rough, but had some pretty fun moments. It just sucks when you suddenly get surrounded by enemies that you can't kill fast enough and also have nowhere to run. But with improved weapons and some friends, could do it. I actually soloed it as a weekly without doing it on the cliff. I sorta half cheesed it... which actually wasn't cheese so much as just finding some cover where I could be somewhat safe. I'd still have to take out adds on both sides as they came at me, but I was able to handle them... barely. It was a looong grind, though. Mostly due to low damage and lack of ammo.

The problem is, it's incredibly frustrating and just deflating when you make it a good distance into the Nightfall and then wipe. It's particularly bad because you want to make sure you run it on each character before you do anything else for the week (due to the XP bonus it gives), so if you already have to do it 3x in a row, it's generally best to spend the few extra minutes and cheese, to ensure you don't wipe.

So...our group figured out a slightly more casual phogoth cheese. Perfect for relaxation... meaning low risk low reward (with reward inthis case being super ultra fast mega speed)
You know the shrieker punishment spawn room? You know how you can jump on top of door frames? Have your fireteam jump on the doorframe inside the shrieker room. Mr. shrieker won't spawn even though you are in the same room. Phogoth and his adds can't shoot you. You get a nice crisp LoS on phogoth.
On the opposite end of the risk/reward spectrum... if you are seeking something a bit more daring and... fun. Have your whole fireteam equip the found verdict. Have one player be a titan with armor of light. Bum rush phogoth. Jump him. Pop the armor. Yell violently. Hold down the right trigger. Pray your buddies did the same. Watch phogoth fall. Continue yelling violently intermixing screams of friendship and congratulations. I did this on my last run since our group of 3 had time to spare. Good fun was had.

I PUG'd the weekly twice... shit blue rewards, although I was able to get a vanguard package that gave me an LMG that I might just exp max out then break down for mats.
Whatevz, got my coins. Maybe if a PSer wants to do a nightfall, I'd be down for that too. Otherwise, back to making MarkoIII a 20/32

Really, try LFG. This nightfall is a nice tryout setting for LFG. I never used it before (two months ago), as I always had a day off on tuesdays. But nowadays, if none of my friends are online/still need to do it and I have only 30 minutes of internet time, I just LFG it.
This nightfall is really forgiving, except for the four wizards part. If you are willing to cheese Phogoth, this is a good nightfall to check whether you like LFG, and nothing can go wrong. I have even LFGed the weekly last week, and it was way better than matchmade teammates.
I did nightfall twice yesterday,
7 AE worthless shotgun
Will probably do the last one tomorrow.

The problem with me, with fussing over trying to get the NF's done early in the week.... is this. What really is the 25% bonus worth anymore? Is that bonus REALLY worth the extra 30 to 40 min of grinding with a group, or hour plus grinding solo? (with a chance of failing and getting nothing?) Or god forbid, you do all three and spend like 3 to 4 HOURS on this mode? Yeah, you level up some gear and guns faster later in the week, but at this point, there are very few gear & guns left to level. What difference does it make? Not much. And even if there are some time savings later, that 25% bonus can EASILY be made up by spending 15 minutes and just getting a few extra bounties done. There's your '25%', with 1/4 of the work.
And as far as getting good prizes out of the NF? Pfft. I haven't seen anything good come from a nightfall in months. Time is better spent doing weeklies where you KNOW what you will get. Or if you have to run solo, do the Crota raid stuff. You already know what your rewards will be, and the actual gaming is challenging, not bullet-sponging stupidity.
if you think the NF's are fun...then none of the above applies to you.

Agreed, some ppl are just obsessed with playing nightfall first. Sure, in the end, it is most effective to do it first. But don't overestimate the effect.

People are still playing by the same 'rules' as when the game came out. "MUST DO NF'S FIRST'. Why? It's not October of 2014. Those rules don't apply anymore. Think about what you are really getting.

Nightfalls still apply once you hit 20/32
1) They help your abilities to rank up faster. MarkoII still needs 1 or 2 more circles on sunsinger to max out... MarkoIII is 2/3's done voidwalker but nada on sunsinger
2) They help you grind rank and rep faster. For end gamers, that means little, but for those who are maxing out faction ranks, 25% means a lot.
3) Dat cool silver aura/mist of awesomeness has been scientifically proven(TM) to increase your drop rates, from "nada" to "feckall"

I do it during the week as I'm not on that much during weekends and I seem to have better luck than most with the loot. The bonus was never worth the effort even during the first week of release, we just didn't know it at the time. That said, I have a few more Jolder's Hammers to level up. I have nine in total with four to fully level up I think. It's a bit silly that Nightfall can have worse returns than the Weekly Heroic for the most part. If cheesing was difficult or impossible I wouldn't bother save for a few exceptions where I could see it being not too improbable, e.g. Nexus with a Titan with the Helm of Saint-14 equipped. I only do the bounties to help level guns because ranking up usually gives unfavourable rewards. If they gave enough Glimmer awarding artifacts, I'd do them regardless. Or bump up the XP per rank but guarantee something, like a legendary gun. If it has a bad stat roll it only gets dismantled for Ascendant Energy, which is in plentiful supply for a lot of people anyway.

If we're bringing in TheHawkNY, then you have to make sure that you do the following 1) don't kill them 2) be as far away as possible for us to res you 3) put us in immediate and sudden danger and 4) ultimately, cause a wipe If you can do all that... you will be a legend, mon ami
