Commence the hunt... to overthrow the Souls titles for best title of the series. Even though Bloodborne is an entirely new IP, the game is mechanically very similar, both control and method of storytelling; lore being hidden in items. So why get Bloodborne? Here are the reasons I believe it is an excellent successor to the Souls series: 1. The slow, campy play has been eliminated in favor of a more aggressive, faster paced metagame. - No usable shield.
- Healing is essentially limited to 20 heals; two and a half heal items are needed for full life regeneration. This is the weakest healing has ever been in a Souls/Blood game. Other healing items are not ridiculous and extremely rare.
- "Fashion Souls" has never been closer to reality. The armor is well balanced; no Havel equivalent is available. Adding poise to your character isn't even a thing.
- Aggression is encouraged with a health recovery system, you get heal back when you strike back quickly at the opponent.
2. For those who enjoyed DemonSouls more than DarkSouls, you'll be happy to know Bloodborne offers a serious challenge to complete, but thankfully no Pure Bladestone nonsense. Less gank fights, more challenging one versus one fights. God gosh darn golly gee whiz (censored). 3. The game is pure melee, no magic or faith shenanigans. 4. The character creator is amazing. Gets better every game. Bloodborne is my drug of choice.

I'm so tempted. It looks amazing. The only reason I haven't got it is the fact I like elder scrolls-esque development. Building skills toward a specific goal. Chillin' and wandering until I'm able to get through whatever blocking point was in my way. I get the feeling BB can be a lesson in frustration and slightly akin to Devil May Cry?

I get the feeling BB can be a lesson in frustration and slightly akin to Devil May Cry? It is indeed. Your patience, problem solving and execution skill will be challenged, particularly in the Chalice Dungeons. I've never played DMC, so I know very little about it or how it might be similar to BB. You progress through the level and unlock shortcuts for use later. Not quite sure what you mean regarding the building of skill, but you can level your character and add stats. It does help to know what weapon you prefer for the sake of optimal point distribution because over-leveling a character can cause problems, but that also requires knowing what you like. There are cases where players level as much as they can, but these players will have more difficulty doing co-op with other players and invasions. The community generally doesn't level characters beyond blood level 120. Some prefer the smaller swinging weapons while others prefer the heavier, slower strength heavy weapons. My first character is actually now a sandbox for build ideas and playtesting. I would stick with a strength or skill build first since they are the easiest to create and build quickly. I went through hell getting the Chikage for my bloodtinge build, my second character. Had to beat bosses with only upgraded equipment and hp increase for about half a playthrough. It is by far the hardest build to create so I'd avoid it for a first playthrough since creating it requires more specialized knowledge.

Cool. If you wanna play with me, let me know. I probably should get a 3rd character build going, something to break my addiction to Chalice Dungeon gem hunting.

Just built my girlie. I had no idea what to do with the stats so just went for the middle of the road option. Began with 'm' and had a 'q' in there I think. I'll try and find my feet later. I didn't realise the coop was like that. Cool. Would be well up for some of that. Are we ps friends already?

My progression is going slowly toward platinum, working on my skill build and plenty of pvp on my primary. Tooros, you have mail.

I'm a noob trying to choose between Violent Past and Lone Survivor and the Saw Cleaver and Threaded Cane. I'm a mobility hit and run guy.
