planetdestiny.com/prison-treasure-key-guide/Great way to add some flexibility to the lockout. You can get some more keys, but they will be a pain in the ass to farm for. Just for all those die hards out there. Personally I also like the chance to get some DLC engrams/keys before DLC. It is not as we are losing anything, we just get a chance to do and get something beforehand, if you really want to grind. As Bungie stated from the beginning they expect players to look at the internet for some of the information, they want the community to find out. I think this "easter egg" of chest hunting is just great.

Nobody can see a difference. There is no visible difference. You just can't turn them in. A quick google search gave us this intel when farming. Destiny item manager has a little II in the right corner though. Also some super good advice, once your postmaster "lost items" are full, your old ones get removed!!! So don't let any exotics sit in there before doing some ether chest runs. Great way to get rid of those gosh darn golly gee whiz shaders and ships though I just prioritised my loadouts so all legendaries are kept, and then I keep as many blue special and heavy weapon engrams as possible. I get rid of most blue armour engrams and leave spaces open on my character so they do not interfere with the Postmaster. For those that like shotguns with Hammerforged and Shot Package, buy the Secret Handshake from the Vanguard Quartermaster before it goes as Hammerforged appears to be removed from the possible perks for the next lot if shotguns. I guess this is a way to stealth nerf a specific aspect of a weapon whilst not actually penalising those who already have that roll as they can Ascend it. The same, too, for Final Round for sniper rifles. Looks like keeping old Iron Banner weapons might mean I can reroll for outdated perks, then I can Ascend it for combat relevence.

They added the II's to them now. I don't think Queen's Wrath was designed to be released before HoW so there are some issues.
BTW what I've heard on the keys is that the boss in PoE drops a key the first time (per week?) and then doesn't drop the key for the treasure room anymore. So if you want to open it more than that you need more you need extra keys. We'll see.

- Farming chests gives you plenty of blue and purple engrams
- You can't open them up right now, so they will fill up your character slots
- As your slots are full, items get send to the postmaster
- There are only 20 (?) slots at the postmaster
- Once you get the postmaster full, the OLD items get deleted to create place for new items. So if you had an exotic in there this morning, and went chest farming this afternoon for a couple of hours, your exotic will be gone.
Hope this clears it up, will be a non-issue in four hours though

Actually that's still good to know, because if you go farm for hours and hours it could still be an issue since you have to come back to the tower to use them.

I really hope this new DLC isn't about 'farming'. It's the summer now. I'm not going to be spending time inside my house playing video games that much. Especially not this summer. I really don't want one's success at this new DLC (ability to get good stuff) to be about grinding and farming hours and hours.

Don't think it will be about farming that much. The luck factor has been taken out for a pretty big part for end game materials.
Armour cores, weapon cores and etheric light have guaranteed drops in prison of elders. Although you can earn extra by opening the "big chest".
Everybody can open this chest at least three times a week per character (lvl 32, lvl 34 and lvl 35) but you can get some lucky extra keys by "grinding" if you really want to, to avoid the weekly lockout. Seems like a great idea to me, as some ppl were deleting characters anyway to get some extra chances per week, this patrol grind seems like a better and more fun way to get that extra chance. You will by no means be obligated to farm for these extra keys to get to the level cap, it is purely optional.
TLDR; I think the "grind" is less about getting to level 34 in the first place, it is more getting everything you have to lvl 34 and optimizing that gear (perks and int/disp/str). Which is more of a choice than something you "have" to do.
edit: Farming will still be a part of the game though. It is partly why destiny is such a big success, even after hours and hours of playtime, there will always be something you can farm for (while accompanied by friends). This farming is often not exclusive to eachother. For example, if I need reputation for dead orbit rank, while my friends need engrams for weapon parts or chance at exotics, we can both just run ROC strike and we both get what we want. This is the hidden key to the success of destiny imho. Destiny = farming while having fun.

What you say makes sense. But as to whether it's a success, that's just so hard to say. There's no way to gauge how successful Destiny is. We know what Bungie told us (# of accounts, 14-15 million), and how many games sold (10-11 million), but no real way of knowing if people are still actually playing this game in large numbers.
I hope you are right. It's easier to grind/farm all that stuff when the weather is cold outside.

We can discuss HOW big of a success Destiny is, I agree. But that it is a succes, is set in stone. It is a new franchise which is all over the internet and game press. For example, a great hyped and expected (but also greatly received) game on PS 4 was bloodborne, which sold 1 million copies, which was more than expected. While this is a PS exclusive, it is also a renown franchise. 10+ million copies for a starting franchise is a great success, no matter how you look at it.
I don't know how it compares to games like COD and battlefield in sold numbers and player numbers, and don't really care as well, because are all well known franchises. With a big following.
This is a new one, and it gets roughly the same attention as those big franchises do. It also keeps the player base more involved, by this time of the year, I was already done with COD and reading as much stuff as possible about the next one. In destiny everything can and will change, which is great.
There were 7.000 registered users on the destiny reddit the last 15 minutes for example! That is nothing to sniff at.
@ marko, it is what I read from players who played at bungies. It is not set in stone, and it might even have been changed since! Sounds reasonable though.

I really don't want one's success at this new DLC (ability to get good stuff) to be about grinding and farming hours and hours. To the contrary, actually, everything I've seen makes it look like the time/effort requirements will be lower than ever before as far as reaching the new max level goes. With the Prison of Elders dropping armor cores and weapon cores, you can just go exchange those for whatever gear you happen to need. No more running the raid every week hoping for a helmet this time, or a Black Hammer, or whatever you're still missing and then being disappointed when you get duplicates of stuff you already have. Just buy your choice of gear from the vendor at the reef (Variks, I think) and be done with it. Or if you get some Etheric Light, you can just use that to level up gear you already have to the new max. Obviously you can farm for more treasure keys if you're so inclined to rerun Prison of Elders multiple times per week to potentially get all your gear faster, but it's not necessary by any means. Plus PoE is a 3 person activity instead of 6. It should be much easier to find a group for that than it was to run raids. Granted most of CE could be done solo or with a small fireteam, but for the most part we were stuck with maybe 2 days a week where we had any chance of getting 5 or 6 guys together to raid. PoE is something I think you'll be able to just hop on and do most days without much coordinating ahead of time, at least until people get bored with Destiny again in a month or two and the population goes back down. Plus, if I'm recalling things correctly, I think it was only supposed to take 30 - 45 minutes to complete, so it's shorter than most of our full raids (though longer than what we did with checkpoint abuse now and then). I guess we'll see how things shake out, but obviously I'm pretty optimistic about the whole thing.

From what I've heard PoE also has challenge modes without matchmaking. I don't know what the rewards are but it sounds like all this adds up to being able to play a LOT of PoE if you really want to.

Yeah, I hope the DLC isn't too grindy. I don't need it cutting into my time spent practicing banjo or enjoying conjugal relations with cousins.

Farming is only a big thing now to promote the DLC. i suspect their spawn rates will decrease because the engram drop rate is better than doing Roc strikes.

I solo'd 2 of them... quite fun actually.
The key that I found was to shoot and stick enemies with the scorch cannon and make it do a big boom... this was very very effective in the Forgotten Shore in the back alley where all the enemies kinda bunched together. Also, not wasting the scorch cannon shots was imperative too... taking out the yellows with the SC, then dropping it and using a regular weapon (Fatebringer, for example) for the nonyellows.
Then for the boss, I perfected the "Full clip of a 4th Horseman to the bosses face, jumping and reloading, making the boss chase you, then repeating" action.

I finally found some info on the scorch cannon. I really did not understand it. I knew you fired and then charged, but I didn't know what I was charging. I thought I was charging another shot or something and didn't realize I was charging the stuck projectile that I just fired. heh heh That makes a lot more sense and explains why it seemed really inconsistent.
Looks like there are two damage increase levels to the charge at 2 something and about 5 seconds then auto detonate at 10 seconds. No reason to keep charging after the second stage. Well now I'll know for next time. heh

TheHawkNY taught me to shoot and charge it right where they fall to get a nice big boom for them as soon as they leave the ship... you have to be qucik, but you can get it to the 2nd or final charging stage. With bradman, I stuck it right on a servator's eye... it looked so cool, I almost didn't want it to blow ;>
