I played BO3, and I think the game will reign or fall with the map design. If all maps are like the ones in the beta, it is going to get boring/frustrating really quick. Personally I like the PvP design in destiny, and while I have loved COD in the past, I am really done with tactical loitering (which that game promotes tremendously, I believe everybody did at least some kind of tactical loitering in COD). There is still nothing which can trump titanfall for me though. So looking forward to a sequel.
You have clearly had more time than me in TTK so far. I am still finding new stuff I haven't seen about, and I am trying to not read up on all the secrets hidden, just so I can get loot faster. Because exploring the dreadnought with a friend, is just the thing the game was missing imho. The big difference is probably the fact that I like the dynamic PvP part quite a lot. My gaming group was never interested in PvP before HoW, but they made a complete turnaround after ToO, and played mostly PvP since then. PvE is on big time now, but I am certain the PvP fun will start soon enough with the new ToO (and the hunt for optimal weapons, which is mostly a PvE activity)
I am slightly iritated by the fact the new content is shuved through our throuds again though. Why the hell would they only put the new strikes in the strike playlists? To get it stale ASAP? It is not really stale for me yet, but I am simply flabergasted by the dumb design choice they made there. For one, putting variaty in strikes was a home run imho, it takes little effort (as far as I can asses) and it makes it allot less repetative. 2nd, just putting the old strikes in there after week 1 or something, with a lower chance of playing them, would have kept the new strikes fresh allot longer. Something like 3:1 (new:old) would have been perfect imho.

You are lucky in that you have a group of friends who like PvP to play together, so you don't need something else to scratch the PvP itch.
I love to explore Dreadnaught as well, but that's not going to be my "main" gaming focus. I'll do that during my maintenance quota of the game play time.

Talking about Crucible, This week's BWU provided the details of Lord Saladin and Brother Vance's return (good changes highlighted): Lord Saladin will welcome competitors to back the Tower on October 13th.Brother Vance will welcome competitors back to the Reef on October 16.

In particular: making win count as a matchmaking criteon is going to be very interesting. So the more wins your team get, the better opponent you will be facing. To get to 9 wins, you'll need to beat a 8 win team (provided there are enough players in the pool for the matchmaking to work with). Hmm...

I did some Mayhem last night. Holy shit, was it fun. I dunno if it was a one time thing; I'll play more tonight but: - I was getting triple and quad kills with stormcaller like nothing. I was tops in the game 3 times and won 5 of 6... Evidence exhibit #16357 that TheHawkNY steals my kills and shackles my connection - I got my Jolly Holiday bounty from 0 to 20 with no effort or frustration or "ginning the system" as Senor bradman would say - I got a dozen or so sword kills with minimal effort too - the electrobbq was in full effect, especially on a small map like Asylum. But on tighter maps like Pantheon: no where to run to, time to get fried - sbtitans could still take me down and a good hunter could tether me out of my super... but any Y1 subclass just got raped... A group of 3 sunsingers got chainfried, then they self res'dand I fried them again... Thanks for the killstreak. I got a 5 killstreak blinded in a S14 bubble just because that particular group thought this was still August '15 and because I was feeling cocky as fuck

Stormtrance = if I see you, you are dead; Thunderstrike = best melee ever. You melee me? I love it because I have "Feedback". You are screwed! Not to mention the extended range. The Thunder grenade is the best multi kill grenade in the game. You like to stand close to your teammates? Sure, you guys can RIP together. Fortunately, the universe does get balanced by Stormcaller least effective in PvE compared to Nightstalker and Sunbreaker, still great at adds control though.

How effective is the blinking during stormtrance? It is a short teleport, but more than enough to break line of sight from enemies. Should be good against ultra+ AIs in PvE and guardians in PvP. For major or below adds control you can just brute force through.

I'll wait for a price drop and my interest in BLOPS3 and Battlefront to wane. Then maybe I'll be ready for TTK. I'm not dropping $40 for it, though.

As much as I love TTK and want to convince you how much you are missing, I think that you are making the right decision. Due to limited play time, you can hardly raid during Y1. With that in mind, other games can give you better bang for the buck. Not to mention that Destiny requires you to sink time into it on the game's schedule, not yours (say Black Spindle story mission shows up in daily and you have to find 2 friends on that day to complete it), and other games are much more flexible. Most effective way for you is probably to wait until the Y3 comes out, which is likely to offer an appealing price package (say the entire Y2 for $20).

This expansion is awesome. Even if you never step foot in the raid, there is tons to do. The voice acting and cut scenes are really well done. This is all I could have hoped for. Best use of $40 on a video game in a long time. Buy it now.

With the new announcement of cosmetic only micro-transactions to fund free content, I am changing my recommendation: mannon, you should get TTK now and the $40 will be well worth it, compared to the other games. Basically you pay $40 for the entire Y2 content (provided that you already own both the expansions), more stuff with much greater quality than Y1, at a discounted price.

They aren't going to charge for year 2 expansions at all? Not 100% confirmed yet, but a very strong possibility, if the "inside source" in Kotaku article (which forced Bungie and ActiVision to make the official announcement) is to be believed. Regardless, there will be periodic infusions of fresh and free content from Bungie on a monthly basis. Great news for players like you (and pretty much everybody). Well, it is about time for raid hard mode to open.
On second thought: IB and ToO are making a return next week, so maybe not until the week after.

Am I btw the only one who thinks it sucks major balls that every "exotic weapon daily/quest/thingy" was on a Wednesday, and on that day only? I cannot play during the week, and while I could lend my account to a friend who will be more than willing to do it, I would love to do it on my own...
I really hope the Wednesday thing is a coincidence, having an (important) mission around only for one day is kinda rough IMHO, but it always being on a Wednesday is beyond stupid design IMHO.

Ironic isn't it? Bungie justifies getting rid of Radiant Light, the buff for completing Nightfall, so not to pressurise gamers for feeling compelled to play on a Tuesday to only then move a timed specific event that has only fallen on a Wednesday.

I want Commander Zavela to give me a double barreled shotgun called, The Briefcase. Then when I'm with friends in the game and I'm using it I'll start whistling to The Farmer in the Dell.

With the advent of Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris Y2, Bungie released info on the new "power curve": www.bungie.net/en/News/News?aid=13754Big picture: Zoom in to the top (where it matters for the majority of the players):

Key points:
1) bottom of curve stays at 10%, same as before.
2) For level delta 0 - 15, each level diff is reducing damage by approximately 2.3%. Level 25 (that any TTK player can get to by using the "Spark of Light") does 35% less damage against level 40 player;
3) With 3 level delta, TTK is more aggressive on damage reduction than Y1, especially HoW. In Bungie's words:
Keep in mind that Bungie had the following to say about how gears' level work:
So when 2 level 40 players are playing against each other, your Light Score and the attack value of your primary weapon are two most important factors to boost up. IMHO the special and heavy do not matter that much in comparison.

Actually, loos like the "level" in the graph is more broader than I thought, could be a combination of both level and light, because in the patch notes Bungie explicitly stated that the minimum level requirement for both IB and ToO is 40. In addition, there are recommended light levels (230+ for IB, 290+ for ToO).
