(SGA = Super Good Advice, the term used in Destiny community that roughly equals to PSA, as a word play from the exotic weapon name). I am creating this thread so we can share tips for Year 2, making them easier to find. Bros: feel free to share the tips you obtained either from direct game play, or read it somewhere on the internet. Feel free to ask questions as well.Let me kick off the sharing with a few I already saw in other thread: Also, super good advice for turning in engrams: Make sure you to equip you highest light score gear before turning any engrams in. The light score of the decrypted item is based on your current light score at the time you decrypt. I've been getting blues lately that are better than some my legendaries! If you are ever short on Reciprocal Runes and wish to save your Black Wax Idols and Glimmer, you can actually farm these in The Hollows when you kill a Blighted Descendant that spawns near the Cabal dropship location. This is the popular location to farm Cabal majors in Patrol. For some reason you cannot store these in your vault so you won't be able to transfer them between characters. And from Reddit: Where to get legendary marks: www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/3l3gq1/sga_legendary_marks_and_where_to_get_them/Tips to reach higher light level before having plentiful marks: www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/3l6ueq/sga_you_can_get_280_light_with_only_blue_gear/ . This post is very useful so also direct quote: While doing the above: also Keep in mind that grinding the Strike Playlists without returning to orbit gives you a streak bonus.

Question: what's needed to unlock the non-heroic, non legacy Vanguard stike playlist?
Currently I can only play the legacy and heroic. Legacy is pointless because of no rewards, Heroic is too hard for my current light level. I was hoping for a middle ground.

What's the general SGA for 'old' consumables etc? Marks and Materials, that sort of thing? Exotic Shards---------------- I assume still upgrade exotics? Weapon Cores------------------ Armour Cores------------------ Ascendant Energy-------------- ** Exchange for Glimmer -> Ascendant Shard--------------- ** Exchange for Glimmer -> Radiant Energy --------------- ** Exchange for Glimmer -> Radiant Shards --------------- ** Exchange for Glimmer -> Sapphire Wire---------------- Exchange for Armour Mats or Donate? Seems like I'm short of Armour Mats at the moment so, I guess.... Plasteel Plating------------- Exchange for Armour Mats or Donate? Hadronic Essence------------- Exchange for Armour Mats or Donate? MoL-------------------------- No ideaStrange Coins---------------- I assume Xur still? PLUS **Swap Ether seeds + glimmer (from Material exchange with the speaker) with Variks for Synths Generally Xur: Strange Coins -> Synths ->->->-> Donate for Faction Rep = Packages**Found this earlier on the Bogie forum:------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The only thing I've been buying from Xur this week is heavy ammo synths to donate to my faction, it almost feels like cheating.
Its much better compared to Motes
10 coins = 5 motes = 100 rep 2 coins = 6 heavy ammo = 150 rep
My point is don't bother donating motes to your faction, save them.
Instead just save up some coins and buy some heavy synths with them if your gonna try the whole faction donation thing.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ tl;dr - Beg/Borrow/Steal Synths to donate for Faction Rep above other options. Seems a better return if the above is true. I can't test it at the moment.

I got a quest from Ikora to complete 5 of those strikes, could be you have to talk to her to get the quest before it unlocks.

Actually looking at some stuff on reddit, you may also have to complete the Dread Patrol quest before that playlist opens up. Still not entirely sure though.

Any advice on what Arms Day weapon to order? Looked through Reddit posts, did not see anything definitive. Turns out not a big deal for me anyway. I have 1 character at rank 2, 1 at rank 1, and the 3rd reaching rank 1 as soon as I get to it, that will let me order 4 out of the 5 weapons available. I already ordered the 3 primary weapons, the last order will most likely go to FR, considering Shotgun is nerfed hard for PvE, and Y1 shotty are good enough for PvP. Since the orders only cost glimmer, the general advice is to buy as many as you can. Even if the weapon sucks, you can use it to infuse other weapons or shard for marks (fully upgraded legendary = 5 marks)

Xur 'Legacy' engrams are just that - Legacy.
I've just had a ranting text from someone who blew coins for a year 2 heavy and got a year 1.

Even if the weapon sucks, you can use it to infuse other weapons or shard for marks (fully upgraded legendary = 5 marks) Crucible Playbook reddit had a decent breakdown, mostly PvP focused though. The shotgun is garbage for PvP, dunno on PvE yet. The FR could be great for both if it rolls good perks. The Lyudmila-D pulse also looks good for both PvP and PvE. Same archtype as the Messenger. The other two should be alright. I actually got the Suros scout rifle from a Gunsmith rank up package. I like it a lot so far. If you are really after a good PvP weapon, buying 3 of the same gun (1 per character) gives you the best odds of getting one with a good perk roll. Also, if you've ordered something but change you mind, you can discard whatever you ordered and go order something else. You'll only be out the 2500 glimmer it costs to order the new gun.

Actually I got the FR already too from one my early faction packages. Liked it quite a bit too, but it was only 259 so it got dismantled for marks.

"Three of Coins"
What do we think?
Specifically Does 'fireteam stacking' help or is it on an individual basis only?
Has anyone tried it yet?

Not sure about the fireteam stuff, but somebody on reddit bought a bunch and was testing out the drop rates. Had 3 exotics drop after 15 ultra kills, then checked back later and he was up to 4 drops off 25 coins. 15-20% chance at an exotic seems pretty good to me.

I've read a bit during the interim. Looks like a patch/tweak/nerf may be inbound soon....
Grab as many ToC as you need - head to the 'Eye of a Gate Lord'
Drop a single ToC - Kill boss, grab loot, orbit before the timer ends, return, Drop a single ToC - Kill boss, grab loot, orbit before the timer ends, return, Drop a single ToC - Kill boss, grab loot, orbit before the timer ends, return, Drop a single ToC - Kill boss, grab loot, orbit before the timer ends, return, Drop a single ToC - Kill boss, grab loot, orbit before the timer ends, return, Drop a single ToC - Kill boss, grab loot, orbit before the timer ends, - You get the idea...

Scourge of Winter is exploitable in the same way. Get to the end, whittle the boss down, then blow both him and yourself up with a rocket. Whatever loot he drops will remain, and you have a checkpoint right outside his room. I'd think you could do the rocket suicide thing on Gate Lord also and then save yourself from having to go to orbit and relaunch over and over.

Tried gate lord 3 times before going to work, no dice Also, how fast do I need to go to the orbit? I was only able to successfully get back to the checkpoint once. Good thing that gatelord can be speed-run. Will try the rocket suicide method later.

More SGA (possibly): decrypt your exotic engrams on the character you're trying to get a new item for. I decrypted 20 or so on my Hunter and got 15 Hunter helms (2 or 3 each one, actually), 5 Titan ones, and 0 for my Warlock. Switched characters to Warlock and got 2 Warlock helms immediately. Might just be coincidence, but I think THebb encountered kind of the same thing, so it can't hurt. That'd kind of make sense from a "smart loot" standpoint. Need a Titan helm? Decrypt on Titan and there's a 75% chance for a Titan helm, or something like that.

That sounds too good to be true for 3 days of play

Xur has exotic helmet engrams for sale for 19 strange coins each. I'm now down to 150 coins total, after having over 200 on each character. Going to spend more later to try and get a Y2 Obsidian Mind, Inmost Light, and the Taikonaut. Those are the only Y2 helms I'm still missing. Hoping for Taikonaut, because I can get OM and IL from the kiosk.

It's the only one he's selling this week, so...yeah? Kind of confused about what you're asking, to be honest. I just wanted to get as many of the new helmets as possible, so I burned a bunch of coins on them. I'd have done the same thing regardless of what of engram he had. Seemed to make more sense than blowing 125 marks apiece getting Y2 versions of Y1 stuff from the kiosk.

In regards to what Hebb said, I bought 12 engrams on my Titan. I believe it was 8 Titan helmets (possibly 9) and 4 Warlock helmets. Switched to my hunter and bought another 4 engrams. Ended up with 3 Hunter helmets and one Titan.

I always bail on that mission as it often comes up in bounties. Restarting takes you straight there? I must have done it dozens of times. Maybe it's different in TTK?

Seemed to make more sense than blowing 125 marks apiece getting Y2 versions of Y1 stuff from the kiosk. I was just wondering whether you have already done the homework on all Y2 exotics and identified which armor type is the best. Don't want to burn all my coins away on helm this week only to find out next week some other type is actually a better bet (say chest piece). Although the coins are dropped from time to time, I have a feeling that I will have a shortage in the near future. However, considering traditionally helmets are great, and legendary helmets are more expensive than others (120 vs. 75 marks), doing lottery on helm is a very prudent thing to do. I'll try my luck tonight with my 550 coins. BTW: for bros who need an exhaustive list of exotic Y2 helms, I found this page on PlanetDestiny: db.planetdestiny.com/items/armor/helmet?sort=pri&desc=0&tier=16&expansion=ttk (total count = 21, 7 each class, 2 brand new (not for Y1) each class) I am going to make 8 max attempts per character, or until I at least get all 6 brand new models not from Y1, for a total of 24 lottery attempts = 456 coins. That should still leave me some coins for future purchase.

So long as you kill the gate lord and you're very close to him when you kill him, you should be able to instantly pick up the engram (if he drops one) and then immediately take yourself to orbit before it says "mission complete" and starts the countdown.
