Out of the 3 times I tried: I only succeeded once. For the other 2 times, I thought I was fast enough as well. Maybe still too slow.

Ah, gotcha Witty. Hadn't really done much checking on that actually. I think between Xur selling engrams and the exotic engram drops from the Three of Coins thing, it shouldn't take all that long to get everything, so I'm not tremendously concerned about it at this time. Once I start getting gear to drop that's in the 290s or 300s and I'll have to make a decision on which exotics are worth infusing, then I'll have some choices to make.

Tried gate lord 3 times before going to work, no dice Also, how fast do I need to go to the orbit? I was only able to successfully get back to the checkpoint once. Good thing that gatelord can be speed-run. Will try the rocket suicide method later. Not sure I understand wittyscorpion. Don't you do it all the time? I always bail on that mission as it often comes up in bounties. Restarting takes you straight there? I must have done it dozens of times. Maybe it's different in TTK? No. It's one of those checkpoint makers you need to be quick to secure the save for. I just snipe from the stairs and bail as the engrams go to the Postmaster anyway.

Something weird here. I did it last night and failed to exit each time. Four failures out of four attempts. I've never done that before. It always used to save as long as you orbited before the countdown ended. That didn't work last night! TTK hidden change? The exotic engram farm of 'the scourge of winter' did though - using the rocket suicide method. 3 helmets, 3 chest pieces, 2 primaries for me. About the same number for dm and 'monkey. About 40 'three of coins' used. So what's that? 56 strange coins' worth?

Going to orbit is slower with a fireteam, we found we had to do it solo.
Do the 3 of coins grinding before making armor or engram purchases, as you may get what you want from that.
Exotic armor can roll different perks. Inspect before dismantling a duplicate because it has a lower stat roll!

Gunsmith orders take up space in your weapons inventory and cannot be placed in the vault. If you don't want to lose that inventory space for the entire week, wait until closer to reset to make the purchase. You can dismantle and repurchase them, or purchase a different one, but you'll need to spend the 2,500 glimmer again.

Mission ends when you destroy the shrine instead of killing the boss so it's fool-proof when suiciding. Also, it should be pretty apt to kill a Hive boss with an allegiance to Oryx.

Is there any reason to save old armor? I have a bunch of 150/160 purple armor taking up space. I plan to save a set for each raid perks, but otherwise can I dismantle the rest?

I don't know, except for crucible perks. You might want to hold on to gauntlets with hand cannon loader until you get new ones, for example.

I broke down every piece of old armor I was holding on to last night, except for class items I liked. I planned on saving some pieces for crucible, but the stat rolls are so brutally low in comparison to current gear that your cooldowns take forever. I tried running old stuff in the daily and its was a struggle compared to using Y2 stuff, even if the Y2 stuff has worse perks. I think the only reason to keep Y1 stuff now is for collection purposes.

I did some Gatelord farming last night. 6 engrams from 28 ToCs spent, IIRC. 4 primary, 1 helmet, 1 chest. I got 2 Last Words, Hawkmoon(!), Zhalo Supercell (which is awesome IMO, handles like an AK47 in CoD, but shoots Thunderlord-style Lightning rounds), Obsidian Mind, and a Hunter Crest of Alpha Lupi. I have another 32 ToCs to use, so hopefully that'll net me another 6 or 7 engrams. I'm also happy to report that the only Y2 helmet I'm missing is the Helm of Inmost light, which I can buy from the kiosk if need be. Now I just have to rebuild my strange coin supply before Xur comes next week. I went from almost 600 total down to 50 yesterday.

Hawkmoon, Monte Carlo both year 2. I've unwrapped 1 each of the chest/helmets on my Titan. Got a lupi and skullfort. All four @ 290.
Tempted to keep going but I might hold off.
Legendaries aren't falling much for me.
So far I only have down and doubt 00-0 hand cannon (which looks AWESOME) and a red spectre auto rifle.
Armour wise it's just the one piece. A dark Orbit reward. Heliopause helmet. .

I'm only going to buy Shadow of Veils if I actually remember to buy it the next time it's sold to use it in the Crucible as a replacement for a Longbow Synthesis I used to have. I don't need the armour for level 28 PoE and I'm not going to bother 32+ PoE anyway. Some Titan marks I got rid of, like the ones sold by Variks. I got a bunch of stuff and I have 300 or so Strange Coins left so I'm wondering if it's worth keep going on for the hunt for the Hawkmoon.

I decided not to go nuts on exotic helm engrams, because: 1) probably too early to worry about getting a full collection, can always do that months later; 2) while 290 helms look appealing right now, it may not be so much once I get to 290+ light; 3) strange coins incoming rate are not super high, better safe than sorry; and 4) spending coins on the ToC is a better investment.
I did buy 5 engrams: 2 Nighthawks, 2 Emperean Bellicose, 1 Obsidian mind. So I at least now I have 1 helm for each character and 1 gauntlet for Hunter and Warlock.
I am heading towards Scourge of Winters to do the ToC lottery with 38 ToC (and more if necessary, feels like I am going to Vegas...)

Small tip:
Low light level weapons are ideal for marks through sharding. When you need to do this, consider the following:
1) Accumulate bounties; 2) Do primary / special / heavy at the same time; 3) Pop telemetries for all 3 weapons; 4) Turn in bounties; 5) if necessary: burn Motes of Light, to fully upgrade the 3 weapons; 6) Dismantle them for 5 marks each;
You'll get your motes back (not that matters much because motes now feel even more plentiful than glimmers) when you dismantle the 3 weapons, besides getting the 15 marks;

It feels like an AK, and acts like a combination of Bad Juju (increased super, returns ammo to the mag) and Fatebringer (arc primary, damages nearby enemies).

For gatelord, looks like you'll have to go to orbit before that "gate explosion" (or whatever it is ) behind the gatelord completes or you won't be able to save the checkpoint. Note: you have to press "going to orbit" button twice. The game always cancels your first attempt.

Ice Breakered ~35 Gatelords, results: 1 exotic helm -> Nighthawk 2 exotic chest -> Hunter Crest of Alpha Lupi, Ruin Wings 2 exotic special -> Invective, Telesto (pretty happy about this one because I am a big fan of Halo Needler) 5 out of 35 seems to be on the low side. I guess I'll have to take what I can get. Was also hoping for a primary weapon drop. Well, probably sometime later (bought another 100 ToC to gamble with until next Xur's day, plan to do it ~ 30 minutes a day until Bungie nerfs it). Besides these, also got a whole bunch of blue engrams that strengthened some of my "weakest chain slots" to 280+. In particular, I am happy to get a 287 "Efrideet's Eye" artifact, as it is the only slot that "money" can't buy me into 280+. End light level: 287. So I guess that I am sorta raid ready

Another tip regarding the ToC farming if you are brave: The ToCs are supposed to be "stackable". So if you are short on time, instead of killing the boss 5 times with 5 ToCs, you can burn 5 coins in one go, kill the boss just once and hope for the best

If you are wondering what happened to the earlier advertised weekly crucible bounties that will eventually lead to NF level rewards, you can find details in the following video. Long story short, you have to go through a fairly long quest line (with the first quest called "Crucible Forged", which you most likely already accepted and wondering what it does) from Shaxx to unlock the weekly bounties.

Not sure if I heard it here or on Reddit...but buying a 280 light ghost shell as soon as one has the marks to do so is a great idea. I have all 3 characters at ~245 light, and I still haven't touched the neverending battle quest yet.
