Have not seen any in-depth discussions on this topic, so I am starting a thread. Want to see the collective wisdom from Den bros.
I have used and seen Frag/Concussion/Shock Charge/Trip Mine/Trophy, which are all pretty solid. I am wondering about the less used ones, especially C4/Thermite/Black Hat/EMP.
While we are at it, we might as well discuss the free fire side of XM-53. Any bros have success in using that for anti-personnel kills?

Well, for Dom the answer is the most straight forward. Thermite is best for lethal as it doesn't care if you have Flak Jacket, and Trophy Systems are best tactical. Smokes are a viable alternative. Everyone good runs Flak Jacket and Tac Mask, so the rest aren't that useful.
For other modes I'm sure there are more options. The Shock Charge/Trip Mine trap combo is pretty good.
Honestly there isn't much to say. Frags, Semtex, Combat Axe, Concussion, and Flashbangs are the same as they've always been. The EMPs are good. Black Hat takes too long to hack anything. And the C4 change made it significantly less useful.

Thermite or trip mine is all I use now. Trip mines I only use when I attempt to snipe, I say attempt because I find sniping very difficult on this game. Thermites on the other hand are just a hybrid of everything. It can kill as often as a frag or semtex, it concusses and hurts the enemy when it doesn't kill, and it can be placed like a short lasting trip mine and cut off a doorway or domination point. I do also like using the combat axe on smg or shotgun classes. It's a quick chance at a crucial kill when you run out of bullets. It's just difficult to use.

I can see why Thermites got nerfed; they straight-up fry everything remotely close to B flags. Teams could easily lock it down like no tomorrow.
Trophies are all more useful now that Tac Insertions aren't around anymore. Helps supplement Perk 1 variation and as a Tac Mask alternative.

As for the rocket launchers... They are both very very good in my opinion. Call of duty is a streak heavy game, have never understood why people don't destroy the streaks. It's very easy with both launchers. I normally use the black cell because of the amount of rockets, but the free fire launcher is just as good but only 2 rockets. Also very powerful. Can't remember the map name but it has the b flag right inside a small house in the middle, can easily pick up multiple kills with the launcher in that spot. I stick with the blackcell still though. So many uavs and other streaks that are always in the air, it's just free points towards my own streaks.

smoke and c4 are king.
Smoke keeps you off of radar while you stand in it. Plus all it's other uses.
C4's are a bit weaker but still strong. You can set the C4 to detonate as soon as it touches ground by buffering the detonation in the air. e.g. toss C4 in the air and double tap while it's flying. It'll blow on it's own after that. Enemy fire can still activate the C4 while it's flying. You will see the rare enemy death as a result of them shooting your C4 (usually point blank throws). I haven't been able to set of the C4 by shooting it myself. Still testing though.

Trophies are really good against really good teams and get you the occasional free kill streak by killing bad players and stopping the stray grenade. Toss them in corners of high traffic areas or behind tactical loitering spots for best results. It covers the weakness of not having Tac mask, which good players will normally abuse.
The free kill potential of the set-it-and-forget-it trip mine is huge. Shocks + trips are fantastic against bad players. It won't work against good players though so I always have a backup Onlyusemegunskill+trophies class for when the win streak needs defending.
Concussions are strong, but unreliable because of the trophy.
Shock charges are better than I expected and are useful as one-time-use motion sensors against bad players OR a quick deterrent in a fight fought around corners.
Flash is disorienting but inferior to the Concussion.
Thermite is fun, but less useful in SnD. It does a good job in 1 v X situations where you need to prevent a bomb from being defused. Uts ability to eat through flak jacket ensures a kill on a stationary defuser, unlike C4, grenades, RPG, or RC car.
Frags are actually a pleasure to use.
Semtex is good in a similar vein to Thermite. Fun fact, you can escape being stuck by a semtex by using glitch before it detonates.
Smoke is really good in this game. Useful for rushing bombsites on infection, aquarium, and havoc.
EMPs are a point machine. One of my friends gets his Ripper online by the first round by chucking EMPs for assists and using Overclock. He constantly tops the leaderboards...so he must be doing something right.
C4 is good, but I find it to be wildly unreliable. I haven't had a good experience with it yet... that said I haven't spent much time with it.
Tomahawks don't show their trajectory like before. I don't like that.

All I know is the Black Hat went from hero to zero between BO2 and BO3. The absolute most dumpy useless thing in this game.

For Domination, I love trophies. And not just for protecting oneself when capping. They are even more valuable when trying to block/lock down one of the lanes people are coming through. Or you get forward position with two caps, in front of the B flag. Post up somewhere, blocking them. After a kill or two, you know people are coming back with all kinds of grenades and stuff. Multiple blocks, plus you get points!!!

Little shocked smokes arent given the love they deserve..
Useful in any game mode..
Throwing on B DOM is hilarious and ends up with a mad dash from both teams to take it
Works great when an opposing player is in a head glitch, toss this out and free to flank and own their ass

This list is a tier list and general overview of why they were rated. This pertains to the S&D meta on BO3 and only BO3. Your results may vary. T= Tier, 1 is the best ranking, 4 is the worst. Lethals: - T1.0 – Trip Mine
- T1.5 – Frag Grenade
- T2.0 – Semtex
- T2.5 – Combat Axe
- T3.0 – C4
- T3.5 - Thermite
Tacticals: - T1.0 - Concussion
- T1.0 – Trophy System
- T1.0 - Shock Charge
- T2.0 – Smoke Screen
- T2.5 – EMP Grenade
- T4.0 - Flashbang
- T4.0 – Black Hat
And that’ll do it. Unless they really tinker around with the function of these items, which seems in doubt now, this is pretty much what you can expect to see and not see.

I'm a little surprised over your praise on Frags; they're just too slow, the most they've ever felt in a CoD, with too long a cook time alone. Feeling it's really detrimental in such a fast, boots-off-ground environment like this.
Semtex on the other hand are subversive to this reaction flaw. I was taken aback by how quickly you can get these out even without Fast Hands. Coupled with Scavenger, you can deliberately pepper an area for days.

Search can be a very slow game mode. You also don't necessarily hold it and throw it. Throwing "prenades" will always be a thing. They have proven their ability to get kills before anyone gets a gunshot off.

The problem with the shock charge/trip mine combo is that it only works on deaf players who can't hear the buzzing of the shock charge unless you use it aggressively. You can still catch soundwhores off guard with cleverly placed solo trip mines. Also rest in pieces black hat. You were no match for twitter.

Lethals and tacticals really lead themselves to a four tier discussion. Mankuc tier: EMP Pro tier: Hatchet Scrub tier: Grenades and stuff Superscrub/ Dumien tier: Trip mines and shock charges

The Tomahawk is good for shotguns. Unlike shotguns it doesn't get hit markers and is competent in CQC.

I need more time with Flashbangs to be sure, but I found them to be much more useful than Stuns. Stuns are great if the enemy isn't already facing where you're going to have to come from, but I get killed anyway after a hitmarker too often. Semtex aren't lethal enough for the Stun->Semtex combo to actually work. And stuns take too long to throw to use them defensively.
Trip Mines are great with Shock Charge, almost pointless without.
Frags aren't very useful in TDM/KC. In BO2, I liked to use them with Scavenger, toss one right before picking up a scav pack, enemies would call out if a frag was near them, but I don't find much utility to them in BO3. They're fine for objective game modes.
Semtex don't reliably kill stunned enemies.
Thermite is also good for objectives, good to switch to if you see a lot of Flak Jacket.
You're familiar with Combat Axe.
C4 is the most consistently lethal, and the most versatile. It's also the best way to get kills after Glitch, and I don't even know how lucky you'd have to be to get the Glitch double kills without it.

That is pretty much the only way to grind Glitch -- I need to capitalize on this ASAP, myself.
Come to think of it, C4 has soured my impression given the loss of airburst. Is it still good?Fast Hands doesn't speed up throwing Tacticals/Lethals anymore. Everything I knew was a lie~! D:

Hmmm I like that C4 method for glitch kills.
I am trying to grind it out with guns and it is tearing my hair out awful.

Only bad offer is the black hat each have perks to them.
Smoke/Trophy can be so powerful. Found myself using EMP nades the most due to being able to do two roles. Thermite so good on objective modes...and combat Axe could be good with shotguns.

PSA: If you play Chaos Moshpit (aka Nuketown 24/7), equip 2 trophy systems and deploy them as close to the action as you can every time you respawn. You will double your XP per match. And obviously keep using the Blackcell.
