I didn't realize just how good sound abuse was in a Treyarch title See now, this part confuses me. I find the sound to be 10x worse in Treyarch games than IW ones. You guys must not have played MW2 if you think this is good soundwhoring. It's so inconsistent. But that doesn't stop it from being incredibly useful and making Dead Silence still the best perk in the game. Treyarch's poor sound stood out the most in BO1, probably because that came out right after MW2. This game we are noticing it more because the game is not nonstop chaos PSSHOO PSHOO PSHOO of everyone flying around with jetpacks in AW. NOTE: I did not play Ghosts so I can't comment on what it was like in that game. MW3 seemed to be the same as MW2, if I recall correctly. And BO2 was the same as this game and BO1 (very inconsistent). Depends on the game-mode you like. If you play a lot of HCKC that sentry gun is nice...

Well I couldn't stand BO 2 so I didn't play much of it. Was there even an Awareness perk in that game? The Awareness perk was in MW2, MW3, and Ghosts, and it was ridiculous in each one. Like I said, I thought this would be more akin to BO 1 where you almost just couldn't hear footsteps period. While I agree the sound is still trash, it's at least workable in this iteration.

Actually surprised I'm the only one ITT currently to go with Spectre's Ripper at all. Granted, that was my first one and this thread is convincing me I should go with Dead Silence for my second prestige.

I don't remember exactly what I did, but I recommend: Dead Silence first. Ghost if you play solo primarily and can't be bothered. Hardened Sentry - Great streak, gets kills, doesn't require being controlled, good for every game mode. Without it, you're basically relegated to using UAV and 2 pieces of garbage until you're in the 40's. Scavenger, then C4.
If you're going to do a specialist (which I didn't, to use them all to get Hero and extra XP from challenges) I'd say the 4 best are Psychosis (for the free silent footsteps), Ripper (great, plus can be used as a substitute for a pistol secondary), Purifier (the killfeed monster), and Heat Wave (useful, also great for challenges. Ripper and Heat Wave both see exponential increases in utility once you begin to use them reflexively.
None of the guns are good enough that they warrant using a permanent token for a try hard class.

I unlocked Dead Silence on the first one. I have to decide for the next one: either the Sheiva that I enjoy (but suck with it lol) or scavenger, after that I think Perk 3 Greed Wildcard, but that one comes pretty early IIRC, so not sure yet, maybe Spectre Specialist. I could not help myself, I have fun with the Sheiva. And yes, I still suck with it.
I really should have done Perk 3 greed.
I rarely live long enough to really need scavenger and I have not been using C4 or trip mines/shock charges.

Anything before level 30 isn't worth it.
Anything between levels 30 and 40 are only worth it if your go to classes use it (for me that was Ghost).
Anything between levels 40 and 55 are worth it unless you absolutely worth it unless you never use it.

Dropped Tactician in favor of Overclock, which comes before Hardened Sentry. It's been doing the grind good for me.

Not sure about my next one, maybe Hardened Sentry or CUAV for better early Scorestreak options.

Unlocked the M8 and Sheiva for camo reasons. Will now just shift to unlocking any high stuff I might use. Don't really care, best stuff comes early or mid-way so no sweat.

1. Brecci (An admittedly silly choice. But at that point I was rushing through my choices during a double XP weekend and very green. I just picked something I was using a lot of. Also I didn't realize weapon XP wasn't reset when you prestiged.)
2. Dead Silence (nuff said there)
3. Scavenger (I love scav, but barely get to use it because it unlocks so late so now it's permanent, yay!)

It's such a late unlock, I'm not getting to use the darn thing let alone getting it golden for DM.

hmmm... Perk 3 Greed is tempting so I could start stacking dead silence with awareness or blast suppressor right out of the gate. Though it's not a terribly late unlock. I might be more tempted to take a specialist like ripper or hive so I don't have to start with... tempest? Whatever that guy is... Though I always just unlock battery first and roll with that for a good long while.
M8A7 is a thought too. I never get to use it. I finally made myself use it for about 3 games this last time around. Hell my first encounter with it I royally screwed up, because I didn't even realize it was a burst fire. heh (Didn't have time to read description between rounds.) If I don't use a permaunlock on it I never will really use it, but it's a bit of a catch 22 for me. I'm mostly terrible with burst weapons in BO3. Not sure why, entirely. I think I've just changed my playstyle over the years to be more aggressive and run and gun. I also gravitate towards the easier guns to use because I have long periods of not playing and get really rusty, then just stick with them because that's what works for me. I had some success with it. More than with the other burst AR it felt like, though I really don't know what the differences are. But I don't know that it's enough to justify a permaunlock.
I'll have to think about it for my next one.

Still don't know what to use unlocks on. Have two of then and another one coming soon after prestiging. Camos are no longer a concern for me for the most part. I don't think Dead Silence is worth a point for the use. Scavenger is tempting, but I don't go on long enough streaks and usually can pick stuff off the ground. I'm casually doing Specialists, so maybe the late ones are a good pick.

I don't think Dead Silence is worth a point for the use. Scavenger is tempting, but I don't go on long enough streaks and usually can pick stuff off the ground. Those two are related. Start using Dead Silence, and you'll start going on longer streaks. Also, the primary value of Scavenger is not to continue using your weapon when on a long streak. It's the infinite supply of tacticals and lethals.

This ^
For one scavenger more or less pays for it-self since I don't really need to double up on tacticals anymore. Scav also makes it more or less painless to throw away stuff on longshots. Bring prox mines and dump them around the first corner from spawn and go about your business. When the spawns flip you have a good chance of getting a free kill, and by then you've probably already picked up another. I know you can have at least 2 simultaneously on the map as well, and scav lets you do that. If you need to you can move them, but with scav you don't really need to. Then there's the never ending supply of flashes and stuns or even trophy systems. I love the trophies. Dump at a common sniping/tactical loitering spot and let your teammates rake in points for you. Put one down anytime you setup camp for a few seconds or if you're expecting an assault, and it'll save your life. Good times. And with scav you don't have to bother picking them up, just leave 'em out to get you points. Hell I love it on Breach. I load up an SMG and run the perimeter, but I duck into the nests on either side and drop of a prox and a trophy, a gift for whoever uses it next. ;3 By the time I get around to the other side good odds I'll have picked up a bag by then. (Dammot now I want to play...)
Dead Silence is also more or less like Awareness+ since deadening your own footsteps lets you hear so much more even if you don't have awareness on, with the added benefit of not letting enemies hear you either. You don't have to stop to listen, you're always listening. I find my map awareness goes way up with DS. The nice thing is that DS fits multiple playstyles. If you're a cautious camper it helps you hear people flanking you and keeps them from hearing you scuffle about in your nest. If you're more aggressive it helps you flank the hell out of the enemy without them knowing it until you're killing them.
I didn't really feel DS too much my first prestige hence why I ignored it with my first permaunlock, but I don't regret using my second point on it at all. I put that shit on everything.

Plus, flanking is simple in my case (I play TDM, so don't have to work with the objectives), so I don't need complete silence. I move quick anyways. As for Scavenger, not useful for me because I don't use equipment.

So don't use equipment or DS and don't usually go on long streaks... These might not be unrelated. I'm just sayin'.
Srsly though whatever works for you. It's all about fun... well unless it's your job.

Equipment isn't useful for you because you don't use Scavenger. Not only does Scavenger make it so that you can use equipment more frequently, but regularly using equipment and knowing that you almost always have it helps you remember to actually use it in the appropriate situations. It's similar to how frequently using Ripper helps you to remember to use it, rather than thinking, "man, I should have rippered there" as you respawn.

I use scavenger in my objective classes that have either C4 or smoke. Also nice to know that if I do go on a streak I have ammo for my gun and don't have to pick up weapons that could ruin "the flow".
Dead silence? All my classes have it.

I've still barely used C4. Planning to run pretty heavy with it next time I unlock it to see if I want to permaunlock it or not because it's such a late unlock. My first time using it I was runnin scav. I put one down, picked up a bag, tried to put down a second... and blew myself to kingdom come. ;3 I guess you only get 1 unlike prox mines?
Well I guess it can't be like it was back in MW2 where you could setup claymores and C4 on two OMA classes and daisy chain two claymores to two C4's to pretty much guarantee nobody gets through two doorways.

I learned that the hard way too.
I permanently unlocked Scavenger and then the next one I unlocked C4 and use it a bit in objective modes. I want to try using two C4s, I have encountered a few using flak jacket in domination games, want to give them a double dose of C4 on those flags.

Yup, lesson learned. On the upside you can just detonate it with the grenade button instead of double-tapping reload... though that does still work as well.
