What do you think is the best combination of killstreaks for different game modes - FFA, KC, HP etc. And which do you believe must be avoided?

I would say the 'best' combination depends on what you can realistically achieve during your match. For FFA I like to run low end streaks that don't take me out of the game like UAV and CUAV, and don't bother with a 3rd.
For objective modes I can push the boat out and rock UAV, CUAV and HELLSTORM / ROLLING THUNDER. Higher SS would be a waste for me, I would not get them on a regular basis as I play mostly solo.
My official ratings would be:
HCXD (Ok fun to use) UAV (Good FFA or OBJ) CARE PACKAGE (Good with Engineer) CUAV (Good FFA or OBJ) DART (Ok Prob Good in skilled hands) GUARDIAN (Meh OBJ only) HELLSTORM (Good for OBJ) LSRIKE (Good for OBJ) HSENTRY (Good) ROLL THUND (Good for OBJ) TALON (Ok Prob Good in skilled hands) CERBEROUS (Good) WRAITH (Good paired with RAPS) HATR (Great) RAPS (Good paired with WRAITH) POWER CORE (Meh) GI-UNIT (Good hard to reach) MOTHERSHIP (Good hard to reach)

My go-to combination has been:
(1) Hellstorm (2) Hardened Sentry (3) Wraith
If I get a hellstorm, I almost always get a sentry, and if I put the sentry in a good spot I can get 4-5+ kills and makes getting a wraith even easier. I am an OBJ player though with a 2 KD/WL so this is what works best for me. That being said, I feel that set-up is attainable for players with lesser skill.
If not, I would recommend UAV, Counter UAV, and one of Care Package, Hellstorm, or Hardened Sentry.
I haven't tried the HATR, GI Unit, or Mothership yet.

If you control the Talon or Cerberus yourself you can get a whole bunch of kills with them. I usually use one of them.

The only truly bad killstreak is Rolling Thunder. It's loud, ineffective, slow, and can be farmed for lots of points (like, easily 800+) by Stealth Robots with cannon arms.

In my region, the aerial killstreaks get shot down really fast, even the HATR.

I find scorestreaks getting shot down varies a lot. I think it's probably more common in off-peak times when the percentage of hardcore players is higher. I know the Den crew I roll with when I'm not playing with my brother tend to knock them out pretty quick most of the time.

Cerberus is easily top 3 in CoD history, I can't believe they buffed it. Most of the other streaks in this game aren't good or aren't worth it. The only good ones are UAV, Dart if you can fly it, Talon is borderline due to the high cost, Sentry, and Guardian. HATR and RAPS are only good if you can call in a bunch of other stuff at the same time otherwise they get shot down instantly.

A full team running UAV/CUAV/HATR is unstoppable

A full team running UAV/CUAV/HATR is unstoppable We should try that next time we have a full team. Should keep them busy looking up at the sky. I may not make it to the HATR though.

It just baffles me sometimes how it made it through testing. Did they test on non-humans? As it is, you have to be a deaf or have all audio off to be killed by one. Like you said, you have like a what...5 to 7 second warning it's coming?

A full team running UAV/CUAV/HATR is unstoppable Went up against this the other day, it was absurd. But if I'd had a Ghost + Hard Wired class I would've been fine.

I don't find RAPS to be particularly effective. Cerberus, Talon and Wraith are what I've decided to run with. Wraith is irritating to shoot down

Wraith is irritating to shoot down None of the score streaks are annoying to shoot down, especially when you have a black cell. Very least have a class ready to go with blind eye, and EMP. Suppose you can swap out an EMP for Cold Blooded, though an emp will stop a ceberus/talon in its tracks. LONG LIVE THE BLACK CELL WHAT WHAAAT

Some of my classes have a rocket launcher, or run with Ghost and Hard Wired. But I do have one class with: BRM, Black Cell, Blind Eye, Fast Hands, Cold Blooded, Engineer and a EMP.

My most frequently used setup is UAV, Sentry, Cerberus.
Hardened Sentry is probably the all around best streak in the game. It's attainable in almost all gamemodes. It averages a decent amount of kills. It basically locks down a portion of the map, and can be the difference in the outcome of objective gamemodes. In KC, it's easier to collect the tags than with other streaks. You can control it if an enemy has switched to Cold Blooded. You can also get out of some sticky situations by just dropping it and hauling ass.
Cerberus is pretty much guaranteed if you get your sentry. The AI is pretty terrible, but when controlled, it can be really powerful. It really benefits from the increase in TDM limit as well, you have plenty of time to get and use it.
As for some of the other streaks: HC-XD is a net loss, I'd be better off if I spent the time not using it. Dart is better, but still not worth it. Care Package isn't worth it for a player of my skill level, unless someone in my party is running Engineer to reroll. UAV+CP+CUAV and Ante Up is a great combo for that. Guardian doesn't have much utility unless you're loitering, and when I'm loitering I generally have other things on my class that serve a similar function. Lightning Strike and Hellstorm don't do much outside of Ground War but flip the spawns. ROFLing Thunder. Talon feels outclassed by the Cerberus - when not controlled, it prevents soundwhoring; when controlled, it's no more lethal and has a shorter duration. Wraith is decent as a highest streak, but shouldn't be your lowest. RAPS - the problem with RAPS is when you have a party, and you're pubstomping, and suddenly someone calls in HATR and RAPS and the lobby empties out. If it's a close game, then the combo absolutely is a gamewinner. But it's annoying when you're having a good time pubstomping and then suddenly you're running back and forth between the spawns trying to find those two enemies that are left. Power Core is strictly for challenges. GI Unit sometimes goes ham, sometimes just gets taken out immediately. He doesn't last long enough, and isn't good enough to use instead of Mothership. Mothership - good god, is this thing nasty. For some reason, it causes people to back out way less than RAPS do. As a teammate on the ground, it's way better as well, just stay inside and flush out the enemies, and stay out of the spawns so they don't flip. Since they buffed it, I average over 10 kills per use.
