Since the elimination of panic knifing in Black Ops 3, more players are resulting to the standalone combat knife for their thrills. But what's an ideal class setup for the combat knife? I setup my preferred combat knife class in the video below: If you don't have time to watch the video, here's a snapshot of the knife setup: What's your ideal knifing setup?

Running Tracker and Sixth Sense but not Awareness, Blast Suppressor or Dead Silence? Nah brah. My train of thought is that the majority of players aren't using a headset... And I never found myself in a situation where a player turned around because I was boost sliding and jumping behind them. That said I did toy with some quieter setups. Blast suppressor, dead silence made me feel really stealthy and bad ass, but I found a more, I guess, tangible difference in other perks. To each his own though

If you aren't soundwhoring you aren't doing it right.
Dump Ghost and Gung Ho, dump the Axe, and dump the Smoke. I'd dump Tracker for Scavenger, but that's only if you're abusing Tacticals. Run Awareness and Dead Silence. Run dual Concussions or Flashbangs, and apply them liberally.

^^ Excellent advice.
In addition to tacticals, I ran afterburner. Initially I waited patiently around a corner with my 6th sense waiting for a ping. But after getting revenge killed a few times I realized it's even easier to be the aggressor and get the jump on people. Play a corner for a kill or two, then go hunt them down. Catch them by surprise. By the end of my knife challenges, I was wall running everywhere, coming up behind people, and surprising them. A couple concussions lead to easy multi-kills.

This is important! Generally speaking you can't hunt an area for too long before having to move on. Moving closer to them along the path to where you were is always a great way to pick up an easy kill or two as they come charging back to get you. Surprise, you're actually closer than they thought!

This is my combat knife class that I had the most success with:
Ghost, Overclock, Hard Wired, Dead Silence, Awareness, and two concussion grenades. Overdrive is my go-to specialist ability with the knife. You could swap one of the perks (not hard wired IMO - too useful) with scavenger, but I never did.
Also running low scorestreaks are vital, because you most likely aren't going to be surviving too long with just a knife, even if you are a beast. So I ran uav, care package, and counter uav so I could get every advantage I could get.
After struggling in the beginning, I managed a 1.21 KD with the combat knife. My overall KD is just above 2 though so I guess it's hard to just knife in gunfights. Go figure. The key is to get close enough to slide and then knife. Flanking and using your stuns are critical.

I'm going to assume that when you're using the Combat Knife, you're doing it for fun or to get it gold, and you're playing in a party against bad opponents where victory is guaranteed - you're not one of those degenerates joins a lobby alone and causes your team to lose. That said, my loadout is the Knife, two stuns, Sixth Sense + Overclock, Scavenger, Dead Silence + Awareness, with Heat Wave.
You don't need Ghost, the enemies won't be putting up many UAV's, and someone else in your party will take them out quickly when they do. Overclock helps you get Heat Wave faster, which is useful for a number of things - it's very useful in situations where you don't have the time to throw a stun, and it destroys enemy equipment. I don't think Hardwired is really necessary. You can run past a tripmine and survive most of the time, and you can destroy equipment that you see with a picked up weapon or with Heat Wave. If during a given game you find enemy equipment to be a problem, then you could switch to it, but I wouldn't run it outright to counter it unnecessarily. As for countering Sixth Sense & Tracker - they're bad players, and even if they're running Sixth Sense so are you, meaning you should be either knifing them or hitting them with a stun fairly quickly and it doesn't matter. If you frequently get chased down by someone using Tracker when you have on Dead Silence and Awareness, then you need to stop knifing.
There's this myth that knifing and using the Combat Axe should be done together, when they in fact are in no way complementary. The truth is, you are not going to get caught out in the open and hit an enemy that is out of knife range with your Combat Axe with any great regularity. You are not going to pop out from behind cover and consistently take out the guy using mind bullets. The only way to consistently get kills with the Combat Axe is to stun the enemies beforehand - in which case you might as well knife them anyway, or if it were not safe, you'd be better off throwing a Semtex than a Combat Axe. Not to mention, the Knife has no crosshairs, which makes it harder to line up your throw.

Of course knives and hatchets go together like peanut butter and jelly. What gives them their synergy you ask? Why it's their magic trolliness. Or less cynically, the fun factor.
As for best class, shameless brass knux vid repost:
Brass knux being essentially the same as a combat knife. If I recall the rest of the class is a concussion (that I usually don't bother to use but it was an otherwise spare point and obviously I don't want a real weapon on a troll class, maybe I should make it a smoke grenade now that I think of it), danger close hatchets, Rocketship (afterburner), Greedy Vulture (scavenger), Sex Panther (dead silence) and Perk 3 Greed Beats by Dre (awareness).

Just got my knife gold, thank the lord! It took a few hours after the 200 kills. I only struggled with the bloodthirsties the rest just seemed to be straightforward. For the bloodthirsties I went a campy route of 2 x shocks, 6th sense, scavenger, hardwired, awareness and panther of course. Played Core FFA and good maps were fringe, hunted and aquarium. Now im having a glass of wine!

diamond knife crew for a while with around 1100 kills with it... favorite weapon...
Tactically Loiter Version 1 knife(1pt) c4x2 and shock chargex2 (5pts) scavenger (1pt) dead silence--awareness (3pts)
Tactically Loiter Version 2 Swap trophy for shock charges for extra campy lull
Run knife If you want to run a lot knife(1pt) ghost (1pt) 2xflash or concussion (2pts) dead silence--awareness (3pts) hardwired (1pt) --i hate dying to c4 and trip mines... throw on another perk or what you want...
My favorite class and really the only one I use now is a sniper and knife knife sniper and attachment c4x2 shock charge scavenger dead silence-awareness (3) SPECIALOST = HIVE
I just loiter in an area, sound-whore and knife/c4 those who get close and snipe people at range....its like the most annoying class setup/gameplay style I can think of...alternatively put a trophy on...just be fast with the c4 double tap... this can annoy the shit out of people... replenishing c4s, hives, tactical...

I had some fun knifing during the free weekend. Knife Tomahawk Concussion Ghost Hardwired+Scav DS+Awarenesss
You have to be careful with the stuns otherwise you'll stun yourself and get killed. If I ever get the Shadowclaw I'll change my class to: Shadowclaw+Bayonet C4 Ghost Hardwired+Scav DS+Awareness

I picked up the shadowclaw bayonet the other day, and it was incredible. It felt like a free ripper
