Polish elite counter-terrorism unit, regarded as one of the worlds top
Ive never read the R6 book but apparently they play a major part in it, so that's why a lot of people hoped to see the ctu in siege
i bet they originally planned Israel/IDF, but probably thought it too sensitive

If that is true for Korea DLC, they didnt even choose the best Korea! I am also a heavy shotgun user for most of my Defense Ops, have never used the laser sight, I will give a try over the weekend see how I feel. I could see it helping Mute and Sledges shotgun, but I will also throw it on Frost and Valkyrie to see how things go. Thanks for the tip.

Though I've mostly been using it to fuck around in Casual, I went ahead and did my last five Ranked placements (plus one more game) with randoms on the PC version and got into Plat 1. Which with all the getting kicked from games and not being able to rejoin on Xbox lately probably puts me farther ahead. I haven't checked since that latest debacle but I wouldn't be surprised if I'm low Gold 4 or so now. I left Bomb on so I end up getting that probably half the time. I'm still a little clueless on the mode since all the x-bros are so dead set against it, but I think I like it. Very dynamic. I think it's the mode that benefits the most from the 4 min to 3 min ranked timer change.
One thing I've been noticing lately is just how good attacking through the floorboards in the Piano Room is on Consulate when attacking Garage. I mean it's much the same thing we've been doing on Kafe, also in the Cigar Lounge (aka piano room) when attacking Train Museum. But instead of having to find tough/impossible angles on dudes using the trains for cover, you get easy sightlines to push people away from the white truck and really just about any position in the garage. Piano Room is more than just the Battle of the Police Line boys! Looking forward to trying it out during SATURDAY... NIGHT.... SIIIIIEEEEEGE!

I have my XONE Elite Controller configured on Raw Input, so generally need to dial down the sensitivity settings in game. With that premise, what do bros here recommend on horizontal/vertical/ADS sensitivity?
With aim assist disabled, I am trying to decide whether to work on aim from the default settings or adjust them down first.

If i recall on my elite controller i have sticks at aggressive and dialed up 1 or 2, and then in game sensitivity to 38 vertical and horizontal. That is with the tall thumbsticks

I have finished all of the solo Situations and unlocked 10 operators, including 1 attacker and 1 defender from each of the 5 non-DLC CTUs, with 1150 renown balance. So far I quite enjoy the game mechanics, I am glad I bought this game Q: At this point, I probably should prioritize the renown spending on attachments first before thinking about 3rd CTU operators (1500 renown each)? Also, any tips on farming renowns as well as XPs (for ranking up)? I have found daily challenges in game and weekly challenges from UbiSoft Club and will be doing these. Any other ideas? BTW: with year 2 season pass is now officially on sale, year 1 season pass is no longer available (not a big deal because I do not plan to spend $30 on season pass anyway). So the only way to get Y1 DLC Operators is to buy R6 Credits, and looks like the price is basically $5 per Operator. What are the top choices to consider if I ever plan to buy?

It was a little disorienting to log in and see my Y1 pass is no longer active. The Y2 pass would actually help you get the Y1 DLC operators a little faster in that it gives you two more challenge slots and I believe a 10% discount on purchases using renown... I forget if that applies to currency purchases as well. Plus a 5% renown boost on earned in-game renown. And 600 R6 credits which I believe is 1 DLC operator's worth right there. Which reminds me, I probably still have my 600 Y1 R6 credits. I'm leaning towards skipping the Y2 pass on Xbox and getting it for PC. I'll be able to afford them all on renown on Xbox, and that will leave them open to whoever does get the pass on Xbox and wants to play those operators for that first week. Or maybe I'l just grab it on both just to support the game.
It's reasonable to start spending on attachments. Shotguns don't need attachments aside from maybe the laser sight. You always want to buy a grip on a gun when available. You almost always want an optic on a gun. There are the ACOGs, which provide pretty high zoom for finding and popping off people's heads. That's usually what I go with. All the other optics are no zoom. So you only need to buy one per gun there at first max. My preference on those in order is Holo, Reflex, and Red Dot. The Russians have different (and better) looking optics, but I suppose the order is unchanged, they don't have Holo sights, and their Reflex is the best in the game. Bandit's MP7 has the best iron sights in the game, and they're better than any of the 1x optics as well.
Also, you probably don't need to buy attachments for more than one gun per operator. Most operators have a clear-cut best gun to be using. Ash with the R4-C, Jaeger with the 416-C, and Twitch with the F2 for example. YouTube would probably be useful here. You should probably avoid shotguns for now, which makes the weapon choice for many operators obvious. Avoid the P90 in favor of the MP5 on the GIGN defenders.
As for farming renown... running Skyscraper or Border on Terrorist Hunt Classic Normal difficulty is my go-to. Once you know the layout by heart and know how to deal with the AI and their small bag of tricks (C4 and suicide bombers mostly) you can clear them in about 3 minutes including load times and character select. And you get around 140 renown for each run. So call that 40 renown a minute, and that's a solid 2400 per hour. I've honestly never tracked renown gain on one of our Siege nights, but I'm sure it's slower than that as matchmaking will often take a while. Matches can take a solid 40 minutes to finish, and if you don't win I don't think you get all that much renown considering. Looking at a casual in my old PC clips, an overtime win is worth about 270. That's probably a solid 20 minutes, so a lot less efficient. I am going to try to note my starting and ending renown values for Saturday Night Siege, but I'm guessing it's also going to be a sad number compared to being a Terrorist Hunt Classic hero.
I forget if you get a Boost just for buying the game or not. Check to see if you have one. If you do, pop that before a long game session and reap the +90% or whatever it is. Just generally playing and winning especially gets you decent renown.

Great, thanks!
Sounds like I should definitely consider Y2 Pass if I want to spend considerable amount of time on this game. What I will do next is to put some decent time on House in both Terrorist Hunt and Casual MP to make sure that I do enjoy the main attraction the game has to offer, and if yes buy the Y2 Pass.
Regarding attachments: what about Barrel choices? Is silencer worth it (250 renown)? How do you decide among Flash Hider / Compensator / Muzzle Brake?
How would you rank the Y1 Operators for Attack and Defense? I am mostly interested in top tier to prioritize unlocks and bottom tier to avoid.

ATT: All DLC ops are good in their own right. Blackbeard (seals) is unquestionably the best at holding angles in the game. Easy to play too. Pick him up if you want to be scum Capitao (BOPE) can make defuser defence trivial and has access to frags. Hibana (SAT) is Ash and Thermite combined in one op and is very strong. Buck (JTF2) fills a similiar role to Sledge albeit in a different flavour, but a strong pick regardless
DEF: Valkyrie (Seals) is the most versatile DLC op for def, nothing beats good camera placement. Echo (SAT) also provides intel and fills a role no other def op fills, but I don't think I would put him in the same tier as Valk. Pretty weak loadout too Frost (JTF2) is generally pretty weak due to loadout (shit smg), and her gadgets worth, being a trap, depends on the skill level of players you play against, the objective location, the amount of time left etc. Very situational op for sure Caveira (BOPE) is the worst DLC op. A succesful interrogation can instantly win you a game, but there's so many conditions that have to be in your favour to even get a succesful one that strategically there's usually a better op to pick. Also shit smg. Fun to play though and good at pubstomping

Flash Hider or Muzzle Brake are generally the ones you want. I think I've been going with the Flash Hider lately just because... well.. it lowers the amount of flash you're dealing with along with the recoil bonus.
I actually like the Frost SMG these days. The lack of an ACOG always hurts. But it does decent per shot damage, and with the Extended Barrel attachment it seems effective at just about any indoor range you can throw at it. And yeah I'm not a big fan of low ROF guns but, the recoil is negligible and you have a fairly generous mag. It's easy to use compared to some of the top tier guns that actually require a lot of control on your part as far as small bursts and recoil control.
The traps are decently effective, and even more so with the 3 minute ranked timer. And for a beginner level player, the traps live on after you're dead, so she's a decent operator if you want to contribute without being a slayer type just by learning decent trap placement.
My favorite use for Frost is holding the bottom of the ladder on Hereford Base when defending downstairs. They can't get an angle on the bottom-of-the-ladder trap without blowing up a wall on the other side, they're often free kills if you peek them when they're looking to check for a trap, and then you have the decent angle on lockers and can cut down anyone trying to rush that door to get into armory from film room or the stairs. Not to mention the traps blend in nicely with the floor mats.

Noob QQs:
1) are the weapons' in game stats any good? 2) Also, how am I supposed to decipher the recoil chart? Not a clue what info I am supposed to get from that picture... 3) On grip: vertical vs. angle considerations? Is it as simple as medium range -> Vertical Grip and close range -> Angle Grip?

1) dmg is upclose damage, chest height on a light 1 armour OP. Armour, leg shots and distance influence dmg negatively (not exactly sure how much though). Rest of the stats is gibberish though
2) shot placement. Each colour represent where the shot will potentially hit @ full auto. So you can sorta judge recoil strength and direction
3) its mostly vertical, except on maybe the G36C for Ash and Kapkans 9x19 gun, as they have low recoil by stock. Unless your playstyle is heavy rushing of course

More noob QQs on loadout:
1) Silencer, how good are they and when do you equip them?
2) Extended Barrel any good?
3) When given a choice, how do you decide which pistol to pick?

1) They suck and never! Ok they're not that bad but they don't reduce recoil, and there's a lot of recoil in this game.
2) It's ok. I like it on Frost's SMG. I think I'm going to do some testing to see if it's viable for me with other guns. I think Flash Hider is the best to have in general, but it's not a huge deal.
3) Well, usually the two options are very differing philosophies. One will be high damage, low capacity, and maybe slow firing (or maybe I'm just waiting longer for recoil to settle). The other will be low damage, high capacity, spam for days. I prefer the latter.
Circling back to your question about grips. Angled grip is actually pretty awesome. It seems like a pretty massive reduction in ADS time from what I can tell. But this game is a lot about pre-aiming. It's also not available on that many guns. So, yeah, it's mostly good if you want to run a rushing playstyle. I like it with 1x optics. On Ash I am keeping my G36C specced like that, and then my R4-C is the ACOG and Vertical (no Angled option).

On Pistol: I think that I personally prefer low damage high capacity ones as well, but so far I only played with AIs who have horrible aim so I don't know whether such pistols can fare well when vs. players. I'll start with these and see. What attachments do you put on pistols? Flash Hider?
Talking about recoil: recoil + no aim assist = lots of struggling even when against UIs. I think that I am getting better, albeit very slowly.
Any specific tips on recoil management? Is it all about controlled burst, and the skill is on how well it is "controlled"?
|
|
|
Post by Pegasus Actual on Dec 9, 2016 0:18:32 GMT -5
Controlled bursts are good. Moving your aim down as you shoot helps, though you have to pop back up a little after a burst to stay on target. This is one of those things that is surely easier for kb+m master race. In a game most people, myself included tend to panic a bit and dump rounds full auto and hope for the best. I'm trying to break out of that habit a little. I'm finding with the ARs that I use at least, doing wall-tests, firing in bursts of around 4 shots gives me pretty good accuracy. So whenever I run a Terrorist Hunt I try to limit my bursts to four, and reacquire my target before a follow-up burst. This is for medium distances. If you're shooting from really far away, you're probably best off firing single shots if possible. Try the wall-test thing, spray full-auto without controlling, with controlling, then try the same with bursts.

Pegasus Actual: thanks a lot for the "guided tour" of PvP last night, the session was very helpful. For starters, I now know all the buttons to push . Also 3000 renowns earned while doing very little work is great Despite getting pwned really hard I am quite enjoying this game. For next steps I'll focus on maximizing learning while sucking . map knowledge, situational awareness, and keep calm, 3 areas I suck on all the games I play, and especially critical for this game. This is not one that I can play reactively by shooting things in sight, which is my signature "style" This morning I unlocked Sledge and he seems to be a noob friendly character: I can hammer my way through the maps and "open" it up quickly with seemingly unlimited number of swings. The machine pistol is a good crutch full auto secondary with sights, going to put laser on it. Frag grenades can be good too. It also seems to be a character that does not get picked much. Sleight + Nook are going to be my gotos for my noob stage in PvP. First of all I am going to watch the "sound" video. It is very important for me to understand what the hell is going on without having to look, which often gets me killed... For game mode I am planning to stick with Secure Area. For maps I'll start with House + Plane + Skyscraper (which we played quite a few times last night) and expand over time. For map knowledge I have been using www.r6maps.com/, which is a web site with simple design that I can find info quickly. I plan to have it up while I am playing for quick reference. On reddit: this guy has an ongoing series of Map & Operator discussion threads, I'll read it for what it is worth: www.reddit.com/r/Rainbow6/comments/5gmuz1/rrainbow6_discusses_the_maps_day_13_chalet/On a side note: is the tactical whiteboard feature at official web site useful? Seems like a cool tool for advanced teams to plan for strategy. However it is seems to have seriously performance issues which makes it very hard to use and view.

The lord will receive a buff {-}7 already confirmed in a youtube description by ubisoft themselves (i mean, it was pretty obvious already given that the dude is chankas voice actor. They're all-in on the meme). 4 other ops too, and I were to guess it's shield ops (although I suppose that's more of a fix than a "rework"), IQ or any of the other Spetznaz
But all that pales in comparison to the actual meat of the upcoming patch: the lightning overhaul and the rubberbanding fix
may we all only be blinded by the lords radiance, and nothing else

I am surprised that IQ did not get any buff...
Also: no lighting improvements?
For Y2: I hope they are considering adding the ability to record game play, so the entire game can be replayed from each individual player's perspective.
With the Y2 content support announced the game has an opportunity to expand the player base. However, as a new player I have to say that the noob experience can be very brutal, so in order to achieve that they should consider adding noob friendly features. Without compromising the core game play, one great way is to consider buffing up the PvE playability, give beginners some more interesting stuff to do that at the same time can also improve their competency in PvP. Ideas I can think of: AI operators, mini games (drone race, terrorist hunt "score attack" mode), non-lethal competition among players (players can't kill each other, only to compete on objectives), etc.
While we are talking about features, I have another noob question: does Console support Custom Games? If yes, where can I find it? Does it support 1 player roaming around the map while having the objectives?

One thing that just occurred to me is that maybe one of the reasons why I am losing many gun fights is because I don't have the right brightness, so I can't identify the enemy well. It could be a Dejavu of the Destiny raid days when I made myself completely blind in the VOG cave.
Q: when adjusting the bright spectrum, what should I aim for? At this point my primary goal is to be able to find enemies easier when fighting indoor.
If you have any other video related settings that you recommend, please share. In a game that head shots are critical and movements are slow and deliberate, visibility is absolutely essential and any way to improve is very welcome.
Also, can I assume that Console has a locked FPS rate of 60?

Got promoted to Plat 2 on PC in a Bomb game that featured on the opposite team what I think is the first PC Diamond I've seen in Ranked. I've been going with the theory that I'd play a couple of Casual matches and if I felt good just do one PC ranked match per night and it has been working pretty well. I've convinced myself now that if I keep working at it I can make Diamond on PC. My KD on PC is still moving up, and is a solid 0.2 higher than it is on Xbox. That kind of got me thinking about how much my XIM really helps me on the console version. I consulted with Witty about some of his questions from his last post. Somehow despite his dark history, which I only know from legend, he thought turning down his brightness to... 20... in game... would be a good idea. I think we got him sorted now. The Scorpion will become our most efficient killing machine. Bank on it. While assisting the Scorpion I decided to try picking up the controller a bit instead of my trusty XIM just to see what happens, and so I could offer him some intelligent input on exactly what the controller sensitivity settings did. The last time I seriously tried to play an FPS with a gamepad must have been the original Titanfall, XIM4 came out 3-4 months after that game released. And that was just for the gap between XIM3 and XIM4... I suppose I played Ghosts on controller as well, but that's about it. So, I knew I'd need fairly low sensitivity. After a bit of tweaking in Terrorist Hunt I went with 30 for X axis, 20 for Y, and then I believe 40 for ADS. I said Foxtrot it and solo queued some Ranked matches. 2-2 overall. Typically top player on my team, except for the one blowout loss against some diamonds that me and those randoms would have lost to no matter what I had plugged in. I think if I was XIMming the other loss may have been avoidable, but it's more on my teammates for blowing my 3-kill rounds and general other mistakes more than anything. I think I noticed 3 times that playing on controller absolutely got me killed. Once was when I tried to turn hard on a corner camper, but somehow managed to click the stick in during the panic turn for a sweet knife-the-air play. I recall argyle antiques complaining about the lack of 'tactical' style button setup in this game, I was agreeing in general but that fail really cemented it for me. An accidental crouch would have done nothing to hurt me there. Another time I had set up somewhere that I kind of needed to watch two spots for the enemy. I just didn't have the confidence to set up my lean and pre-aim on the left side like I should have, which would have let me cover both sides more effectively than trying the other way around, and I kind of ended up selling out on the angle that the guy ended up not taking and losing the gunfight because of it. And then there was just one shot that I totally whiffed beyond belief. I accidentally hit the Y-axis way too hard, ended up staring at the ceiling, just ridiculous. Overall I did better than I expected. Especially considering the lack of auto-aim. I even got a few spawn picks with confidence. My aim obviously wasn't as good as XIM, and the low sensitivity forced me to play a bit slower and not be as liberal exposing myself to multiple angles where usually I rely on being able to snap-turn fast enough, but the majority of engagements played out about the same. Oh, and my right thumb got tired. Really tired. I guess my left thumb is strong from all the Rocket League, but after a couple of hours having to aim with a thumb I just wanted to put the controller down. I was thinking about trolling the 54i by playing on a controller during Saturday Night Siege and seeing how long it would take for people to notice. One random silly thing, since the d-pads on both of my XBO controllers are kind of messed up, I had to resort to hitting drones, marks, etc... on my keypad. I doubt many people have used their XIMs for that particular purpose, but it was very much needed. I save all that wear and tear on these controllers by not even using them for my most played games and they still don't last. Sad! Playing a bit more slowly and spending more time thinking about how the round is unfolding is probably something I should adapt into my regular play-style a little more often. That and more walking-speed flanks. I would have actually expected that to be something I'd be getting better at while playing on XIM or controller for that matter, as my XIM and G13 setup affords me the use of an analog stick by my thumb whenever I feel, but turns out it's been a little more natural coming from the PC version and sliding my thumb over to the Alt key for just the right speed to be super quiet. The "walk button" is something that I pretty much never used in any PC game ever to this point in my life, but here we are. Shooting drones wasn't even so bad on controller. I think in some ways doing this little test is going to make me a harsher critic on the rest of you console scrubs when you can't deal with a Twitch drone, or just let a drone drive past you with 50 seconds left in the round to drone out the entire end-game defense we have set. I mean, I'm usually known as a very kind... gentle... and forgiving horse. But that might change! XIM helps me steal some kills here and there when I'm making poor decisions, or I'm outnumbered. But for the most part I believe even more strongly that this particular game is more about map knowledge, game knowledge, strategy, teamwork, and going out and making the right reads and trying the right plays. I was going to add in some thoughts about our recent discussions in Xbox Party Chat about being more organized with set strategies/operators but I've wall-of-texted enough. The quick version is that I'm for it, especially on attack regarding droning, clearing, and holding flanks. We have way too many people trying to do the exact same job and we need to be more organized if we ever want to stop bouncing around Platinum.

I am embarrassed to say that I have been playing with incredibly bad settings: 1) for starters when I was configuring the brightness for the very first time, the left side was pitch black so I did not even think that there is a logo in there. When the in-game prompt say to make both logos look clear, I thought it means the number 6 and the pistol inside on the right side . As a result, I dialed down the brightness all the way to 20ish. No wonder I was incredibly bad at finding stationary indoor defenders... 2) I thought the ADS sensitivity is a complete separate setting from the horizontal and vertical sensitivity, did not realize it actually represents the compounding factor on top of that (ADS 50 = half speed as hip, ADS 100 = full speed as hip). As a result, I turned it way down to 20ish while having low X and Y sensitivities. In other words, basically threw any chance of having decent ability of ADS target acquisition completely out of the window; 3) I also found out my current TV settings are pretty terrible for gaming. Went through XONE's "HDTV Calibration" process to get that sorted out; 4) On the audio side, I have been using Hi-Fi with low overall in-game volume. This is probably why I never heard the C4 deployment sound. After making a major overhaul across all of these settings, at least I am doing significantly better in Terrorist Hunt
