>Fans excited a WW2 game is coming out >Gameplay released >It's definitely not the 1940's >There's lasers, heavily-armored infantry with muscular augments, hover tanks, aliens, and all kinds of spaceship combat >Developers asked why this is called WW2 when it's clearly sci-fi >"Oh it's not that World War where the war is worldwide, moreso a war where multiple worlds are involved. This is the second war of the worlds. World War Two." >Internet collectively moans >Bobby Kotick smiles as the moaning fuels his respirator for another 30 years. >"Oh and pre-order to get the hot pink Moist Nugget camo" >The internet collectively moans again >60 years

"It's completely boots on the ground." No tank or plane or any vehicle sequence in the campaign. Definitely no boost jumping, in fact you can't even jump at all anymore. You're going to be stuck with the same squad of generically inoffensive design-by-committee cardboard chuckleheads in the US-only campaign who get into "humorous" and DRAMATIC situations. [Hollywood actor] and [Hollywood actor] are prominent characters in the DRAMATIC story that has zero grounding in any WWII history. A Brothers In Arms wannabe. Preorder now and get access to the Carentan 24/7 lobby.

Hey another World War 2 game that features the same two battles and the Holocaust being totally absent from the game. Okay, but World at War along with the other WW2 CoDs featured some of the most epic stories of the war. I bet the developers wanted to include the Holocaust, but how would that fit into a CoD campaign? We only figured out the Holocaust was a thing towards the end of the war.

On a more serious note I'm very skeptical how this CoD's going to handle their story. WaW's Russian campaign was the perfect blend of over-the-top action and the more old-school hero story from earlier CoDs.
"Hey guys let's start like a normal CoD campaign. FNG tutorials, we'll start out unarmed at a firing range-" "Nope. We'll start him out in a pile of his dead comrades. We're going straight to the bottom. He'll crawl alongside the only other survivor- a sniper with a hand-injury off-handing a submachine gun." "And YOU get to handle his sniper rifle, giving you every reason to be a clumsy sniper while he tutors you- this works." "Next up you get to snipe off a squad of Nazis." "You're alone in an place crawling with them. They'll hear you, how would-" "Exactly. The sergeant will tell you to pick them off one by one as the German bomber planes thunder overhead. All you hear in the storm of noise is him laughing as the enemy desperately scrambles to find you. When the last of them fall they have to bring a whole armored division to make you scurry away." "There's no way you can survive that. They'll bring snipers, dozens of men and dogs-" "You barely manage to kill an enemy sniper, and they do try to burn down a building to flush you out onto the street, but you bump into a squad of friendlies using the commotion as a distraction. They get a new sniper, and you get a crack at taking out the General residing within." "This doesn't sound historically accurate" "Who cares? Reznov is more than enough to carry the story- he is the Soviet Union's unceasing desire for revenge. He is pure hatred."
We skip to the turnaround. Three years. After waking up in a pile of your dead comrades the first thing you see is you surrounded by dead Nazis. You were burned out of a building, now Soviet troops are burning Nazis out of a wheat field. Reznov just keeps laughing at every artillery piece you destroy, every PoW you kill, every time Chernov speaks up against the madness of everything that's going on. Every mission links together as tells how the Germans are slowly getting more destitute. You blow up so many tanks one mission the Germans are forced to use a tank held in a barn under repair in a last ditch effort. The Russians take over the Berlin metro, the Nazis try to flood it with water knowing they have troops in there too. Nazis with bandages, the Wermahct, and officers are seen fighting more frequently as a approach the heart of the city. Makeshift scaffolding adorns the Reichstag and the streets around it. Instead of waiting for an friendly NPC to open a door for you, you're watching several Soviet soldiers try to push open a double door in the Reichstag while several Germans limply attempt to keep it shut. Eventually they fail, scurry away, and get shot in the back for it. THIS was a story that hits a lot of strong notes.
I think the WW2 era has a lot of moments that resonate like that, but if CoD's going to take another crack at it I bet they'll mess it up. What could even make for a good CoD campaign these days?

Yay, more WWII. As if the overstuffed effect is no longer in effect. No thanks. How many times do we have to pick up the Garand for another campaign through the most overused war in videos games. I don't care if it finally got cycled out after 2006, a decade ago.
Anyone extremely excited for this is either 21 or under or was under a rock back in the 2000s. And it's pretty obvious on the choice they made here. Go with a well-explored war with limited weapons. Plenty of space to add their proto-types to save on licensing. And then they can pull from the base game for supply drops. Little risk game and model. And who's doing it? Sledgehammer, not fake IW or Gayarch. Their third studio.

To be fair I jumped the gun on that one with the two battles, though I have tried to remember any WWII game I have played and I still can't remember the Holocaust being mentioned. My memory is as useful as a chocolate teapot at times though so I'm probably wrong. I've had this debate with a new CoD player on a Twitch stream I occasionally visit who thought that the super serious should be confined to the history books, but I wondered what then is the point in using real life events of the past and just not go the sci-fi route. I do think 3arc would have wanted to include the Holocaust but I suspect Activision would rather not because that means it would probably get banned in Germany for containing Nazi imagery and that means fewer sales for Activision. Perhaps World at War could have included the the Nanking Massacre in the campaign?

Lots of talk about the campaign, on a board where almost all the talk is about the multiplayer. Joking aside, who cares about the campaign? It's always like five to seven hours of gaming and then it's over.
I would like to think that Sledgehammer does something different this time around. Tanks would be cool or some vehicle types. World at War sort of pulled it off. Kind of. Then I think back to images of Domination on the map 'SeeLow', 8v8. Half the players sitting in tanks just bombing buildings, the other eight players just hiding on the sides of the map. Maybe this isn't good.
Anyways, I hope for something new in 'how' the game plays. Vehicles above. Perhaps in a 12 v 12 format that better suits them? Maybe a new movement/aiming system, one that doesn't involve jumping higher? Or how about a complete turn away from the dated "My KD is bigger than your KD" d^ick bragging that has ruined the game for years? That would be nice to finally rid the game of these pencil necked f%&$#$% once and for all. Kind of a CoD game where every objective game that starts....every player is actually playing to the same goals.
If this is just a shinier graphics game skinned over a WW2 theme, that does all the same shit we did before (less leaderboards, because we all know they can't be shown anymore or risk showcasing dropping player counts)....this game will mostly suck.

I care because it used to be good. I don't really care THAT much because it hasn't been interesting for many iterations at this point.
CoD2: "Commissar! The fascists have holed themselves up on the second floor!" "Bah! Damn them all! Grab those satchel charges and plant them on the building's support columns!" *Level ends with an earth-shaking explosion, a building adorned with a giant Swastika crumbling to dust, and your comrades cheering on the carnage.*
WaW "Sergeant! The Germans have holed themselves up on the second floor of the Reichstag!" "HAHAHA! Dimitri, grab that anti-tank rifle. We will go kill so many Nazis- the cowards on the second floor will DROWN in the blood of their fallen comrades!" *Level ends with some angry Russian guy with a machete helping another dude with an anti-tank rifle kill loads of Nazis*
WWII (Based on how Black Ops 3's campaign went down) "Ivanka! The Nazi scum have holed themselves on the second floor!" "We'll use our anti-Nazi augments to scale the building and use our super secret ally tech to scan the second floor for Nazis!" "Wait, are you an Indian woman soldier fighting for the Red Army during WW2? Who the heck put her in the game?" "Diversity quotas... comrade" *grabs a nearby Russian tank and throws it at the building to destroy a wall* "Wasn't that badass? We're going to have badass people do badass things every 5 minutes because we're so badass and our metrics say players love that." "I uh... that's not in tune with WW2 at all" "Let's go into the next room and shoot 10 guys, go into the room after that to shoot another 10 guys- and then come face-to-face with a tank where you'll pick up a conveniently placed rocket launcher and blow it up. Isn't that FUN?" *One of the Russian soldiers drops their gun and walks away* "Did I mention I'm a woman? Oh boy, time for another badass thing" *Teleports behind Hitler and stabs him* "Nutting persons, kid."

I don't know what to expect from this game... but I know that there will be 4 things in it:
- Campers - railgunners - Squeekers - Individuals who will have had frequent anal (most notably, but all the other types too) sexual intercourse (both consentual and non-consentual) with my mother

It's always like five to seven hours of gaming and then it's over. Until the developers start placing guns to use for multiplayer to be unlocked by playing the campaign like in Battlefield. While forum posters such as yourself are multiplayer-centric, there is a significant amount of players that do play the campaign, at least from a pie chart from Steam I saw Mousey posted yonks ago. If the campaign is to be a minor element of the game then why hasn't Call of Duty been made without a campaign like Rainbow Six: Siege (it is just a few missions as opposed to previous Rainbow Six titles)?
