Luke Smith is tweeting again:
"Next week the Destiny 2 team will detail the systems side of the December update. It includes: economy updates (vendors & acquiring their gear, tokens, legendary shards), investment updates (new reward systems for weapons & armor) gameplay updates, and more. (1/2)
Additionally, @knowsworthy and I will also be answering some questions and addressing community feedback we’ve been reading since launch. See you soon. (2/2)”
This is make or break stuff for me. After the lackluster reveal streams, poor impressions of CoO from multiple sources, the XP scaling nonsense that recently came to light, and the crucible radio interview that showed just how out of touch the PvP designers are and explains why crucible is worse than D1, these changes are going to be the only thing that could keep me interested in Destiny. If they don’t nail a bunch of them, I’ll be sitting this DLC out until things do get fixed (assuming they get fixed at all). That’s something I never ever expected myself to say about this game, but here we are.

Yep, I'm happy to see it. Of course, the fix won't please many people. They've raised the XP required to level from 80k to 160k. Since I was always getting my XP reduced by at least 50%, I'll end up with way more XP. I didn't do an exact measurement, but it probably reduces the amount of public events required to level up by ~10 (without the well-rested buff). More importantly, they're not being intentionally deceptive to us anymore.

It's the fixing of the lesser of two evils.....
People are screaming for Bungie to fix a problem... if you're bungie, which do you fix..
Low hanging fruit, like removing a xp throttle, or
Replanting the whole tree, like revamping the entire reward system of every. single. part. of. their. game.
Bungie knows they f$$ked up with the token system... but it's going to take time to fix that and quite frankly, we the masses aren't very patient right now. Especially when they put their feet in their mouths by promising the most rewarding activites ever, and it turns out to be "Two Tokens and a Blue"

Honestly, the problem is not the token system. People are railing against the token system as if it really is a big change. It's the same as the previous reputation system, except that you can turn them in whenever you want, on whichever character you want. I agree the "most rewarding public event ever" thing was horrible though.
The bigger issue is that there's nothing to grind for. In D1 you could always chase for a roll you didn't have. In D2, the only value in armor is how it looks, and any weapon you acquire can't be improved upon. There are three weapons that I don't have; two of them are Dead Orbit and I can't get no matter what I do, and the Last Dance isn't worth grinding strikes for given that it's basically the same as the Etana SI4. I feel like I barely do the raid at all, and Trials I actually haven't done in months, and yet I have everything I want from them. It's crazy that you get the rewards from not even doing activities with the clan stuff.
At this point, I'm just stacking up enormous amounts of the different currencies. I have hundreds of legendary mods, over 7000 legendary shards, and enough tokens/materials for over 700 engrams. Other than embracing my Judiasm like this, there really isn't anything to do.

I don't disagree; I was just using it as an example of what Bungie can fix now and easily, to sate the hoard and opposed to what might take a longer, bigger time.

I'm not sure how you guys don't see that the token system is terrible as currently implemented. It's absolutely a step back from the vendor system in D1. The only positives are that you can save stockpile them and you're able to switch them across characters. Outside of that? Complete and total RNG as far as what gear you're able to get. I've turned in 29 IB packages and still no scout rifle or gauntlets for my hunter. I've turned in around 40 NM packages on my Titan and haven't gotten the butt towel. I've turned in 153 gunsmith packages and there are still 3 guns that I've never seen drop. That's ridiculous, and that's tame compared to many reports I've seen. There absolutely has to be a way to purchase specific items if they're going to use a pure RNG, no smartloot system for gear rewards.

I didn't do an exact measurement, but it probably reduces the amount of public events required to level up by ~10 (without the well-rested buff). More importantly, they're not being intentionally deceptive to us anymore. The deception was an issue for me for this specific incident. That said, I wasn't surprised given Bungie's track record of previous lies and half-truths. I suspect it is a net gain as you mentioned. Plus I actually don't mind picking up a patrol beacon now if I'm farming public events. I used to dodge them because of the throttling issue. It was interesting reading Reddit over this because I ended up coming across Jim Sterling's video on this issue. I've never heard of him until then. That and seeing the shills come out of the woodwork claiming it is a bug, or seeing people discuss the possibility of the Federal Trade Commission getting involved etc. Not sure how plausible that is since it's not my jurisdiction, but the fact that it was mentioned a fair bit is probably an indicator of hoe fed up gamers have become with the monetization of the AAA industry. This issue probably would have less traction if the Eververse store wasn't such an endgame for players like me, although the Destiny Community will have found out ages ago anyway. Bungie knows they f$$ked up with the token system... but it's going to take time to fix that and quite frankly, we the masses aren't very patient right now. Especially when they put their feet in their mouths by promising the most rewarding activites ever, and it turns out to be "Two Tokens and a Blue" Two tokens and a blue is what Cayde meant that there will be a ton of loot! /s If only I worked for CAD comics, I could update the loot situation from their previous sketch. I'm not sure how long the fixes will take but it looks like the design shift took place when Pete Parsons became CEO. But a start could be made by updating NPCs like Ikora to sell stuff so they are actually vendors, retroactively changing raid and Trials armour to give specific perks beneficial to the raid and PvP respectively, and allow players to fully spec across mobility/resilience/recovery on all armour pieces. I used to use Actium War Rig on my Titan with the Devastation Complex armour, but she looked ridiculous, so I farmed Io and got the full sets for each of my characters. My Titan uses the whole Io set with Metro Shift, while my Hunter uses the Io set except the boots since I use Orpheus Rigs all using Monochrome. I use the Philomath set for my Warlock with Nazarec's Sin all using Midnight Talons. I'm not sure how you guys don't see that the token system is terrible as currently implemented. It's absolutely a step back from the vendor system in D1. The only positives are that you can save stockpile them and you're able to switch them across characters. Outside of that? There absolutely has to be a way to purchase specific items if they're going to use a pure RNG, no smartloot system for gear rewards. Unfortunately, the bean counters at Bungie will see your activity and believe the game is in a good state. I didn't touch Iron Banner because of the loot issue. For a timed event, I will expect guarantees to get some Iron Banner specific loot. It looks like I'm in the same boat too with the Eververse items because one exotic item I'm grinding for hasn't showed in this week's stock and it will be rotated out next week.

I haven't played in five days. I just got busy.
I ended up buying the upcoming DLC, but it was only because I Bungie sort of tricked me. While in the in-game menu, I saw something new and opened it up. I got a bit confused (as I was multitasking and talking on the phone) and thought the release came out early, as it was saying something about needing to buy this. So I did. Bungie got my money early. Wasn't really to happy about this.

I completely agree that the RNG of it all is crap and that the Smart Loot isn't very smart. But is it that much smarter than D1? I run 3 warlocks for both, and there were still armour pieces in D1 that I never got/earned from IB... And while the token system isn't very rewarding, nether is running 3 NF, 3 exotic chest CP's and not getting a Gjallie for ___ months either.

Okay I sent the request from Bungie.net. I see the Bungie is once again forgoing putting all the functionality in the game it-self for some reason...
