To be sure, Activision researched this and attained the patent for a reason, and will almost certainly use it at some point. Just not in WW2. let me ask this. Why would Activision even publicize the use of it? They are under no disclosure laws to have to admit to using it. If they have it, why not use it for their money grubbing purposes. To the best of my knowledge, it's not like anyone could crack their SBMM system to see what's under the hood.

They could have easily said “we have no plans at this time,” but they didn’t.

Most conspiracy theories are just that, conspiracy theories.

Most conspiracy theories are just that, conspiracy theories. Well, when you apply for a patent on the technology (which I admit to just assuming someone researched this as true), it sort of goes a step or two above conspiracy. I also don't find it a big stretch to assume Activision does things like this.

Yeah, it would be hard to separate the gingerbread men with fuscia tommyguns from the players that only have hot pink MP40s.

It will be interesting to see the reaction once people are presented with evidence that each player does not have the same odds of getting an item out of loot boxes. There is a weird assumption that these companies are not using the mountain of data they have about you to maximize their profit. Wasn't there enough evidence from Destiny 1, that the developers rigged the odds on the loot system depending on what you already had? The example of the GHorn comes to mind. Different segments of the population had different odds of winning things. That's not really what I'm talking about. Here are some examples of the types of things they could be doing: - They could use their data to determine which items a player wants, and when a player purchases a large amount of silver, ensure that the player does not receive the item they want until most of the way through the silver - They could reduce the rate that good items drop for players that have spent money on silver, in order to entice them to spend more - They could increase the rate that good items drop for players that are unlikely to spend on cosmetics, but that play with players that are likely, in order to show off the cosmetics to get their friends to spend more - For a new player, they could match their IP with general demographic data to model the likelihood that they will spend money on silver, and manipulate drop rates accordingly Things like that - for a company like Activision, that might make somewhere in the neighborhood of a billion dollars annually from loot boxes, a percentage point here and there adds up to a lot of money.
