Does anyone use it? I mean, I honestly think it must be a terrible sniper rifle. I tried using it and couldn't stand the recoil and the fact that I got almost no kills. Though, if you use the red dot, and can handle the low ammo, it could be a pretty great AR, right? You could use spotting scope and mortars/c4. It would be like a silenced assault class(more damage though) with all the benefits of recon. The only problem I can see is no grenade launcher and no ammo box. Has anyone ever tried this?

I've used it a few times, prefer the gol over all. Most people like to hide in the trees with it, like nelson bay. gets quite annoying.

Its one of my favorite sniper rifles. That being said it certainly isn't suited for long range sniping even though you can with a simple 3 tap.
I like to use it for what i call "action sniping" ,mid range and in their face.

Statistically it's better than the G3. Try it with a RDS and Magnum Bullets. Pretend it's a faster firing G3, rather than a sniper rifle.

I love it. You tap it for long range and you NEVER fully automatic fire it unless it's close range and sometimes medium range. You use it like a semi-automatic that can fire faster. I play it with the ammo upgrade which helps a lot.

I started using it today after my friend made a comment about it when we were discussing strong/cheap weapons (main topic: M60). I was extremely surprised after testing it one game. I went something like 32-11 on Laguna Presa on Rush offense. It was the first time I've seen anybody win offense on that map (side note: the winning animation is pretty anti-climatic). It seems at anything but long range I'll kill someone right after I look at them. Needless to say, it's one of my favorite weapons now with the red dot. However, the downside is the ammo...it runs dry faster than any other gun I've encountered. I also noticed if you're moving while shooting it has a large spread...perhaps this happens to every gun and I just haven't noticed but it's quite prominent with the VSS. Anyway, it's an amazing gun...and having it be Recon is a plus, C4/mortars are my favorite gadget as well as motion mines

The Vintorez is one of my favorite guns. It'd be perfect if you had an extra clip in reserve.
It is aggravating having to rely on your teammates for ammo, but it is doable.

It's got the fastest TTK in the game. It's freaking OP as hell. You can rape ANYTHING if you land the first shot. It's better than the M60.

TTK aside (which is still only .018 - .027 better), the M60 beats the VSS at everything. And considering the frequency of head-to-head firefights compared to a game like MW2, TTK loses even more of its value.

What spec would be better for the Vintorez? Magnum or one of the others? Also, do the "sniper" bullet tracers show up or just regular ones?

I always use the Ammo and Magnum specs with the VSS.

With only 60 bullets and a ridiculous RoF, every shot counts. For spec one, if you're going for the close-mid range VSS (which is amazing, btw), red dot is really the only way to go. Even scoped in with ACOG the shots go every which direction and the default and 12x scope aren't really built for close-medium range fighting - what the VSS is really great at.

My favorite Loadout is VSS, Extra Ammo, Magnum Ammo. I got my first platinum star with it.
Use the hit indicator as a crosshair and fire from the hip at close range. 1 of those 20 bullets will always be a headshot.
medium and long range just double tap at the head and they are dead.
It's the only kit that can kill well at all ranges, aswell as destroy tanks easily with C4.

The sniper rifles are one of the weapons in the game that are clearly well-balanced -- the details of which seem to be obvious... Like the MW2 sniper rifles, it's a spectrum between spamming shots for good close up sniping vs. slowly firing single precise shots for OHKs at long range. The VSS falls in the first extreme, while the M95 falls in the other extreme. So, the VSS is basically a scoped SMG that's accurate enough to be used for close-range sniping but can also be used like an SMG in tight situations... It's one of the only two sniper rifles that's silenced. I tend to prefer the SVU, but I've been sprayed down by a VSS-user before when using the SVU. If people don't prefer one type of sniper rifle, it's because that rifle doesn't suit the situation or the playing style, not because the weapon itself is weak. As an example: I would use the VSS on Valparaiso or Nelson Bay (on Rush), because there's lots of nice dark cover to hide in. But I'd never use the VSS on Arica Harbor (except when assaulting bases #2 and #4) because all the good sniping spots are long range.
