Outside of cheating or anything like that of course. But the leveling seems ridiculously slow... even if you complete the challenges every day the average 600-700 points you get a match means you have to play about 50 matches to rank just for the lower levels. I feel like I'm doing this wrong. Anybody tell me if I'm doing something wrong here or is that just how the rank up system is?

It seems to me like there must be very few ranks to go through. Even though they take some time, I am seeing people ~25% ranked up when I select them even though they are at the 5th (or maybe it's the 6th?) rank.

The fastest way to rank up is to play Gruntpocalypse, getting lots of headshots and multi-kills, and not dying.
You can also play the campaign on legendary, with as many skulls as possible.
A lot of the big commendations (the ones that take several games to complete) seem to give thousands of credits upon completion, but unfortunately there's no list yet of how many credits each of these things gives.

There's spots in the campaign where you can quit and reload to keep getting commendations over and over until they max.
There's always firefight, gruntpocalypse is easy if you don't die and keep getting double, triple, overkills, and such.
60.000 credits a day limit. You can apparently bypass it by changing your timezone.

If you credit-farm to the extreme, however, the devs might take notice and you can get a credit ban In the campaign, the best place to earn credits are rally point bravo on tip of the spear and using in mission 3, Oni: Sword Base, you can grab the target locator then hug the wall to get a checkpoint, then just use it, revert to last checkpoint, repeat

Do bare in mind that any form of boosting is being treated very aggresively, credit bans, full credit resets, 48 hour and 2 week bans.
If it feels like you're exploiting something in the game for extra credits don't do it. It's very likely to get you banned. Bungie don't pussy around with the banhammer, they keep order.
Other things to watch out for that will get you banned: Don't leave matches - whether it's because you're losing or because you don't like the gametype voted for. 15 minute bans are being dished out, this system is automatic based upon some sort of algorithm to determine those doing it regularly. Dashboarding regularly will get you a 48 hour ban. Try very hard not to teamkill (or even team damage). Automatic bans are in force for team killing.

They probably should make it a little harder to boost then, from the sounds of it. Moderating will never meet out justice even handedly. Though mebbe these measures are more temporary until they can patch out the most egregious stuff... but then who knows. *shrug*
People still TK? wow... I guess being a douchebag never gets old...

I've only been teamkilled twice so far, and both have been obviously unintentional.
As for Gruntpocalypse, I managed to get ~900 at the lowest in terms of credits while playing today, most games were ~1600. A couple general questions about that gametype, first, can you only play it on Heroic? Seems like if it could be toggled to legendary you could earn even more credits, but I don't see an option to change. And second, can you toggle which skulls are on, or is it always the same 5 (at least I think it's 5 that have been on for me)? I really want Grunt Birthday Party off just because it gets quite annoying after a couple games...

What settings/map should I use for Gruntpocalypse? How many pts/credits are you getting?

What settings/map should I use for Gruntpocalypse? How many pts/credits are you getting? Doing local firefight gets you very little credits. Beat the campaign first on legendary. Do the target designator trick as many times as you can until the credits it gives you are small. Then, it's just playing matchmaking firefight (if you have friends playing) or score attack (if you're by yourself). In firefight\score attack, Gruntpocalypse , Rocketfight, and Sniperfight are the best ways to earn credits. Gruntpocalypse is the easiest, but with Rocketfight and Sniperfight you have the potential to earn a lot more credits or a bit less, depending on your skill level... Because it's easier to get multi-kills on more powerful enemies with rockets and sniper rifles, but... your enemies aren't all just grunts. You sometimes have to face elites and hunters.

The above video has a walkthrough which shows the quickest way to get through the map... If you can get to the end of winter contingency without dying, though, here is what you do at the end:
To my knowledge, they aren't banning people or resetting credits for anything other than credit modding (w/ a jtag) or people who have found ways to infinitely repeat challenges by pulling their ethernet cable out before the info gets sent to the bungie server

I'll point out that Bungie did a credit reset and one day credit ban on 15,000 people yesterday for Challenge Resetting, which is a way to reset daily/weekly challenges so you can earn them over and over. It required network manipulation to do which breaks the ToS.
They have stated that normal farming (playing Firefight, checkpoint abusing in campaign) will not get you in any trouble.

And they will probably raise the cap and add more armor pieces later on as well. At least they said that is the plan on Bungie.net. heh
I don't think I'll max out in Halo:Reach... heh Then again I'm not going for 10th prestige on any CoD games either. 1 prestige is enough for me. Though if I played every day I might.

And I thought Gears' Seriously 2.0 was bad. I'm really hoping that they're gonna start doing a lot of 2x/3x XP weekends here soon.

Cap raise is definitely happening.
