I'm sorry if this isn't the best place but I was wondering where I could find out exactly how idle and center speed work. Having the stats is great for comparing weapon to weapon, but I'd really like to know exactly how these are translated into the actual operation of the weapons.
Is the center speed merely a measurement of the speed at which the view moves? If so what is the unit of measure, degrees per second?
Is the idle amount the number of degrees the gun will idle within? If so then how fast does the gun idle and do all guns idle at the same speed or are there different speeds as well? Is the speed of idle movement directly proportional to the idle amount?
I'm sorry for all these questions. If there is a resource with the answers already I'd be perfectly happy to be redirected and will read it fully.
Thank you.

There is IdleAmount and there is IdleSpeed.
Amount is simply the area in a radius (or diameter?) at which the sights will move about. Instead of a fixed spirograph pattern, its path varies.
For IdleSpeed, almost every weapon that idles substantially in COD4 or WaW has an ADSIdleSpeed of 0.8 or 1.5.
Unlike the raw code, whatever equation the game uses for the Idling isn't available, so all that is certain are the numbers for IdleAmount and IdleSpeed shown for each weapon.
- Both IdleSpeed and ViewKickCenterSpeed are arbitrary numbers. The raw code only describes CenterSpeed as "Speed with which the view continuously attempts to recenter in hipfire / ADS." IdleSpeed has a similar description.

Hmmm I see. Well that does help. I'll have to see if I can find the idle speed specs on the weapons.
It seems to me like we could probably make a few educated guesses and then do some testing to see how well they pan out. Unfortunately I only have it for the console and cannot record video from it. ;-(
