I'm in need of replacing my old old graphics card and power supply, and I just wanted your opinions. I've asked around elsewhere, but I want yours because you are pretty cool guys. Basically, I'm tossing up between the Radeon 6870, 6850 and nvidia gtx 460. I'm completely undecided one way or the other, so sway me. Also, what would be a good 500-700W PSU? I'm not really willing to spend more than $300 US total. Well, maybe.

Thanks for the chart, a fair bit better than random forum posting.

That's an awesome chart. Does that get updated regularly somewhere?

That's an awesome chart. Does that get updated regularly somewhere? I assume so - latest version is from February first.

Bump
2 weeks later, lots of reading and searching and I'm still undecided as to the graphics card. PSU is done though. Cheapest prices are at a retail outlet called MSY (I'm an Ausfriend so newegg is not an option), they have ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI near-reference models (no Cyclone Power or whatever) of all three cards. Deciding between the 460 1gb and 6850 is a pain, same price ($205AUD), benchmark performance can be either way depending on games and res., generally 6850 is better stock but 460 is better OC. The only definitive thing is that the 460 is a bit cooler and the 6850 uses less power. I asked /g/ when they were feeling particularly helpful; they said "toss a coin". 6870 is an easy winner but goes for an extra $50-60, and like I said, I'm staying on a budget here.
God dammit.

This is a heavily console forum, I don't think most of the fellows here can help you much.
I have a GTX 470 FWIW, and it runs Blops at pretty all max in the graphics option screen at 1680*1050 with 4x AA 16XAF. It can do 16x AA and still run fairly well if I sacrifice a bit of smoothness.
I have DOF, bullet casings, and some other random console vars that I can't remember disabled.
I prefer Nvidia's drivers. Nvidia control panel is most definitely better than CCC, though you don't need to use CCC.
I used to have a HD 5870 which is actually a little better than the HD 6850, at least it was when the 6850 first came out. They may have fixed this issue, but the HD 5870 had visibly poorer texture filtering. That fact, and that my particular card didn't OC well led me to sell it and get a GTX 470.
I've no regrets even though the HD 5870 comes out over the GTX 470 on average.
If the 6850 doesn't take as much of a hit from AA as the 5870 did, then it could really be a solid choice.
In the end, I still think you should shell out for the 6870. The 6870 is really the only product in its particular price bracket and has no competition from nvidia.

Yeah I was really just expecting Den to reply since he has a 6870 and would probably know about the things in that price range. A 5870 would have been nice, apparently Newegg had a huge clearance sale on those things recently, they were going for about $159. Too bad Australia doesn't have that sort of thing. We basically have PC Case Gear, the online vendor, and MSY, the retail vendor, who tend to be cheaper but have less stock, but neither of them have a huge amount of stuff. Although I did notice that all of the 460s at MSY were actually 460 SE editions, which was apparently a big no. So the 6850 turns out to be the cheapest. The actual 460s on PC Case Gear are creeping up to 6870 prices, and as much as I like that card, I'm gonna have to cross it off the list.
