402 just tweeted about the prestige shop: - ANY piece of equip, weapon or perk can be unlocked permanently by using a prestige token
- Prestiging any number of times in a previous CoD grants one prestige token (per game)
Now, considering that the shop is offering essential stuff like extra custom classes as well as the non-permanent "double xp for 2h" and tokens not being that rare, i think we can assume one thing: There will be unlimited levels of prestige. Or about 255. But at least a Foxtrotting lot. Update 24 Oct 2011:Game recognition will reach back to CoD4 (that is, on consoles. Obviously) [1] and you don't have to prestige before MW3 is released. [2] To make CoD Elite register a game you prestiged in, you have to play one round with said game after Elite has gone online. [3] And again: One token per game. [4]Perks, guns and equip unlocked by a token will still be reset upon prestiging (camo, challenges etc.). [5][6] Wouldn't want to miss out on all those xp anyway. Update 28 Oct 2011:Apparently the number of prestige levels is limited. [1]

New goal: prestige enough times to unlock every unlockable permanently. Period.

I wish 402 would clarify if Prestiging in past PC CoD titles counted, and if they had to be Steam versions. As of right now, I see no reliable way for PC owners to be included, except Black Ops, due to info living on Treyarch's servers. I doubt IW trusts Steam's cloud-synching and user client info for older CoD titles. Where did WaW(Treyarch) info live?

Doesnt that mean you get one token for mw, one for waw, one for mw2 and one for black ops? Even if you prestiged 10 times in every game? My english is not that good, but i cant make up what he means exactly...
I would love the opposite though... 3 times in mw, 10 in waw, 10 in mw2, 15 in blops....

From what I understand, you only get one token per CoD game, provided you prestiged regardless of how many times you prestiged.

...Assuming I've prestige'd in 3 previous CoD games, that means I'll be awarded a total of 4 tokens once I obtain my 1st prestige in MW3.
Thus once I reach my 1st prestige in MW3, it will should be the equivalent of a 4th level of prestige (due to my 3 additional tokens) is that correct?

According to wikipedia it's "[...] any Call of Duty title [...]". I guess only games registered by CoD Elite will count, how else will mw3 know? But yes, that's the idea.

...I guess only games registered by CoD Elite will count, how else will mw3 know? I'm playing on Xbox so I'm sure teh xbox godz have it in their records that I've wasted a total of 80 DAYS raping all of the previous games (excluding W@W - that game was siht).
I've considered buy MW3 for PC, but I don't want to deal with hackers, and even if the PC version supports a Gamepad I doubt it comes with aim-assist . Plus the console fan base is probably 2x as large, so that means more stuff to pawn
EDIT: Just found a great article at MP1st that lays out the details, it's basically what we've already talked about, but the "unlocks" only last for one prestige duration. mp1st.com/2011/10/22/mw3-unknown-number-of-prestige-levels-and-prestige-shop-details/.

Well, well. Lookie here: @reiske: @fourzerotwo So if you unlock a piece of gear, that gear will only last you that prestige round? Custom create-a-class is still permanent?@fourzerotwo: @reiske Both are permanent. So you unlock that gear for all future prestiges, same with extra custom class slots.

So which game is easier to prestige in, CoD4 or WaW? I've only started playing about a year ago, so I have only prestiged in BO. And I'm like level 68 in MW2, so I'm going to go finish that up.
Also, prestige levels aren't unlimited, but from what I understand you don't unlock the option to "Reset all Stats" until after you hit the 'max' level. So then you get to do it all again. Yay.

This was apparently requested by a fairly large number of people. Personally, I'd prefer to stay max level and work on GOLDEN EVERYTHING. Actually, I might start over... if I kept my previous rewards from the shop. INFINITE CUSTOM CLASS SLOTS

Wow, if each previous title --> 1 token, that will save a lot of joyless grinding; I'll only need to prestige once in order to have all 10 custom class slots.

ERG, I still need to prestige in WaW. Level 57 with no map packs... this'll be a fun grind.

community.callofduty.com/thread/100565092Oh, no! Regretfully, we have no way of tracking global user rank on previous PC and Wii versions of these titles and will be unable to reward prestige tokens on those platforms for previous prestiges.I knew that rewarding CoD4 and W@W prestiges would be impossible (ignoring the inability to prestige in CoD4) and that MW2 would very likely be excluded, but there's no technical reason as to why Black Ops cannot be rewarded as they can and do track global user rank in that game.

Yeah, I agree. Boo @ no prestige tokens for PC. I can understand non-Steam copies being untrackable, but if they really put some minor effort into it, they can track Prestiging on Steam titles, or atleast the playtime spent on those titles. Since Black Ops(and WaW?) store info was stored on the Treyarch servers, this just shows they have made no effort for PC users. At very minimum, they can give a Prestige coin for those that own PC CoDs copy on Steam.

If they truly could not track user data, they should just give you the tokens if you own the games on Steam, I agree.
W@W stores player data locally. However, there's no excuse for not supporting Black Ops.
