MK46.
Highest RoF, maintains 4HK outside effective range (unlike L86), acceptable recoil/irons.

does anyone know how these two compare as far as bullets to kill over range? and then how silencers affect that?
mk46 v l86.

l86 IMHO, best recoil profile, quick reload and is devastating with thermal+grip...

Don't use the LMGS. Use the Type 95 red dot rapid fire ftw.

Don't use the LMGS. Use the Type 95 red dot rapid fire ftw. That's right, don't bother having any individuality or using a different weapon, just pick the most OP weapon you can get your hands on and abuse it incessantly...... Guess we should just rename each version; so we've just had FAMAS OPS, now we've got Type 95 Warfare 3....

LMG design is beyond my understanding. This is something like: "Hey let's do some weapons that, compared to AR have: higher spread higher recoil slower player speed slower ADS speed slightly less range slower rise/drop time slower reload time
and to compensate let's add 100 round magazine and high penetration (lol).
In any way, MK46 is the best according to my experience. With rapid fire and/or silencer you have a chance to be not so bad against AR. The others are ranging from bad to mediocre. Just stay away from the Pecheneg.

LMG penetration sucks. I've been trying to spray thru wall with no avail. Almost nothing is penetrable.

LMG penetration sucks. I've been trying to spray thru wall with no avail. Almost nothing is penetrable. I agree. You just can't shoot through anything in this game. The amount of impenetrable cover is ridiculous and only serves to make headglitching a necessary competitive tactic. I want FMJ back.

Just stay away from the Pecheneg. the advantage of LMGs is that you can get SMG rate of fire with Assult rifle damage. Also if you put grip and kick on MK46, L86, or the Pecheng, you can get very good accuracy. also you have the crouch and prone accuracy advantages that make them fire in practically a straight line when prone. Also you can negate the aim time by equipping quickdraw and stalker. Then you basically have an SMG that holds 100 bullets and long range assult rifle damage, that just runs slower. And with the specialist bonus you get speed proficiency and the LMGs become ridiculous with all the perks.

you guys are getting confused, completely LMG's are no ordinary AR, they are supposed to be an overwatch long range gun for objective 'camps' they are the best for staying in one stop and keeping an objective undercontrol. so you dont compare them to the AR... i agree that there not the best but staying back and 'snipeing' with a thermal and grip will be the best they can get thanks for the MK46 suggestion.

I've got thermal on the l86 and im working the m46 up there. I think I like the m46 with silencer and grip/rapidfire even better and I haven't even unlocked thermal yet... having such a huge clips allows you to take out three guys at a time. something you can't do with an ar. you'll get one or two, and the other guy always kills you. if you could get 100 round mag on the g36 or acr, youd have gods glowing dick in your hands. the large mag is a big advantage with the right gamestyle in games like groundwar and kill confirmed. knock on a silencer, assassin, and get prone, and im just as good with that as anything else in the game. l118a, t95, mk14 included.
also learn to dropshot or gtfo.

A post similar to this really opened my eyes two days ago. I always thought I had understood how to handle LMGs in previous CoDs - don't run around too much and keep your sights up. But laying prone is the most crucial thing with LMGs in MW3, now that it provides a recoil reduction. The damage output is actually pretty decent with all of them, the problem is hitting your target - and that's where I've been losing a lot of gunfights in this game. Proning, or, if not applicable, at least crouching, helps both with that and to minimize your profile. One major disadvantage is you can't use many pieces of cover to hide behind ("headglitch"), but being prone isn't all that bad in terms of making yourself a smaller target.

agreed, I brought this up in a prior post. so many people are still discussing the use of grip on lmgs, but after a good deal of use I've realized its basically a wasted attachment. lying prone has a far greater impact and costs you nothing. the thermal on the other hand is worth it. id recommend a silencer over grip all day. these guns are not as negatively affected by silencers in mw3 as in other games. and its amazing what the combo of silencer and 100 bullet mag can do in high traffic areas. ditch the grip, roll with silencer/rapid fire/thermal.
disclaimer: I only have extensive experience with l86 and mk46.
*edit* I now have the thermal for both l86 and mk46. the mk46 is superior, and I dont even like using the thermal with it bc I find it too obstructive even for it's increased accuracy. the accuracy standing is much better with it, but I constantly try to be prone, making it a moot point. I use silencer and speed. it turns it into 40-25 damage AR with great irons, good range drop off, and a 100 round mag which I cannot stress enough. speed makes mobility a nonissue. I can't tell you how many times I've cleared 3-4 guys at once because I never had to reload. you dont realize how much 30 round clips and forced reloads cost you til you never have to reload. I shoot down uavs with it in a pinch. Ive also found that firing at cars in congested areas is a very effective strategy. its the most powerful weapon I've come across as long as you are proficient at dropshotting. I highly recommend it as a true rape class, not just a fun mess around class. it really is dominant.

Anyone have a preference for kick vs grip on LMG's? I'm not sure exactly how they are different. I want to try something different, so LMG's are going to be it for awhile.

It may be a monster with rapid fire, if it's somewhat controllable. Haven't seen grip vs kick threads, but I haven't been trolling around a lot so I'll look some more.

MK46 w/ Rapid Fire and Speed Proficiency is basically a full-auto AR on steroids. The only problem is a slightly longer ADS.

AK+EM is the best LMG because it's better than LMG's in all areas, yet can be played as an LMG as the clips last a long time due to the not sky-high rate of fire

AK has more visual recoil than most LMGs, carries less ammo both per mag, and total, and cannot have its recoil reduced by prone.
Doesnt count.

Is the AK an exception, or doesn't the sway/recoil reduction work at all for assault rifles? If so, that'd make me love my LMGs a little more. I thought it was a feature that affected all weapons across the board.

Now I am getting confused. What do you mean by less recoil when prone or crouched? I was convinced that the recoil is the same and only the sway is reduced.
Anyway, to all og the guys who think that LMG have their own niche if played correctly: just play any AR with EM. IMHO You will get better results.

AR with EM is not the way to go. just becuase you put EM on an AR doesnt make it better than an LMG, EM lowers RoF, and LMG's are not deisnged to be be AR's in any way

IMHO You will get better results. prone = less sway and less recoil. l86 and mk46 become pretty lasertastic. thermal only helps much while standing or crouched. while prone, its actually a detriment. ar with EM has lower rate of fire and worse range. while prone, their recoil is worse. with speed on the lmg, mobility is a non issue. ads remains a problem, but lmgs are not for run and gun. run to your spot, or spot to spot, and get prone. different playstyle. altogether, using an AR with EM just is not comparable.
