So, hi
I read a tiny bit on how suppression works, but I still don't understand fully how it works, and even if it has a significant role in gameplay (seems like it's really unless you're at quite a range)
So I think I read that suppression not only increases your base spread, but also increases the rate spread increases.
So, I've got a few questions about suppresion.
- The suppressive values both Den and Symthic list in their charts, do we know how exactly these play out in spread degrees etc?
- When does a bullet and/or explosion actually suppress? It seems that actually getting hit by a sniper bullet for example doesn't apply the suppression effect, or at least, you don't get the funky blur effect.
- Continuing; is there a seperate hitbox around players that handles suppression or something? How close do your shots need to be to suppress someone?
- And a subjective question; is it worth it to suppress things?
Thanks

I suppress stuff. But only because I'm new to Battlefield and I'm a terrible shot Definitely seems worth it to me though. As far as I could tell, it adds shake to weapons and blurs the screen up. It's as bad as a tactical light to the face.

I have a basic idea of how suppression works.
1. Suppression has a few levels of effect (light, moderate, heavy). I don't know the exact values of each but they're a certain % range (for example light is 1-10%, moderate is 11-25%, etc). The guns' suppression values add their respective amounts to your suppression "status" (which is normally 0% of course).
2. Things suppress you when they barely miss you.
3. I think within 1 meter. Don't quote me on that.
4. Yes suppressing is worthwhile. It really messes up the victim's ability to retaliate. Their ADS fire can become as inaccurate as hip fire.

Also, the PKP is great because that low max spread, so his example is a bit off in terms of how suppression affects accuracy.

if you have a team that is worth something, you can surpress enemies that camp defensive positions while they move in close
also with LMGs and the clip expansion, you can start firing around a corner before seing the enemy and surpress him, then kill him
the general rule for surpression is, need MOAR DAKKA

i.imgur.com/kgluu.jpgDemize99 confirmed it, but stated that the image is a bit off - it's a circle of effect, not a rectangle. So suppressive fire doesn't work when shooting at cover? I'm pretty surprised at that. Without that sort of mechanic, it basically just helps you a bit when your aim sucks - it doesn't really seem to be a tactic to be applied. I think I remember seeing a suppressive fire mechanic in Ghost Recon Future Soldier as well, which did work when shooting at cover - but that game is a third-person shooter with an Gears of War style integrated cover system, so it makes sense. I wonder how a truly realistic suppressive fire mechanic would be implemented in a FPS?
