any denizens play this? i got it as a gift a few days ago and i'm completely addicted. never had that much fun in a coop game.
preposterously difficult, but i actually like that. games have been to easy those past few years.
anyway, if any bros ever feel like dropping me a line, write here and we can exchange steam details.

It looks like a lot of fun and my girlfriend really wants to play it, but our video cards aren't really up to it. ;-( Someday, perhaps.
I seriously thought this was a Left 4 Dead mod when I first saw it, there are so many things in the game that look like they evolved directly out of that, yet it isn't even Source Engine. ;p (If it were I could probably run it...)

your video cards can't run that game? huh, it really isn't that demanding (260 or 4850 can run it just fine).
yeah it has many parralels to l4d, allthough with some key differences. the experience system for one (where experience is represented by the ammount of money you steal) and it's a lot more team oriented with a higher demand for tactic (in the higher difficulties, assigning sectors to cover for each individual player is key).
fun story about the engine: from what i hear it's the engine the original ghost recon ran on.
oh, and also: a game where finally the shotgun is sitll usefull beyond spitting distance!

I have a GeForce G100. Pretty ancient by today's standards, and yet it's a HUGE leap up for me which I just acquired last year with the new computer I now have. My old computer was (and still is) running a Radeon 9500 Pro. ;p
You could say I was and still pretty much am overdue for upgrades. heh At least I can run Killing Floor.

just don't make the mistake of many level-0-free weekenders and try to play on hard or overkill. this isn't like cod where you can dive right in, you have to unlock some basics and get your level a bit up until you can successfully pull high-level-heists. =)

Just tried it out for 3 hours. It's pretty fun, although I'm pretty darned terrible at it. It is definitely unique and I could probably get addicted if I get better at it.

don't expect to beat hard or overkill or even normal right off the bat, phale. it has an RPG element (as in you get stronger as you rank up through the levels) and no matter how personally skilled you are, you are gonna get murdered on a low level. so it's probably not your fault^^

Aaah, Payday. I love this game, and it has the merit to have true achievements, unlike some best-selling games that are only "Finish this in normal, finish that in veteran" etc. I've spent about 1h30 yesterday, soloing Diamond Heist without bots to get "Are those the blue ones ?". And yes, it was HARD. Some achievements are nearly impossible though (Finish an Heist in OVERKILL with 3 low-level players, or earn a Support level while reviving someone). If looking for a good FPS in Coop similar to L4D, then look no further. There's an upcoming DLC too, if it is free (although I heavily doubt about it) this game will be an instant fav.

Personally, I find CQC very difficult, as I tend to phase through the target I'm rushing and I seem to miss all my shots. I'm a lot better at long range shooting. Does this mean I should use the Sharpshooter path? I'm using Support at the moment because I like being a team player and I'm frankly better at that than killing cops, lol. Also, do you have any tips for reducing mouse lag?

well, you should level whatever seems cool and usefull to you. a few levels in each tree don't hurt in the beginning, so you can at least support your team with basic ammo / health bags. in the end you will have all three trees leveled anyway. killing cops is not mandatory. there is no reward for it, they respawn endlesly during the assault waves. just kill them when neccessary to conserve ammunition. don't play with bots, bots are not smart. round up some moraly loose friends or join a lobby with people and politely ask for help or instructions, most people will be thrilled to meet someone who is willing to learn, the community is usually pretty friendly. as for mouse lag: it's a known problem and there is a fix, posted as a sticky in the official steam forums (i havn't looked into the details of it since i don't experience mouse lag) that fixes the issue. lastly, would you mind if i added you on steam? maybe we can steal some stuff together

Thanks, but I'm only playing for the weekend because I don't have any cash, and I'm sorta touchy with my friends list, but I'll keep you in mind in case I decide to get the full game later.

I don't think most people here are villains or jerkwads, but I currently only have people I know on my friends list... I'll open up once I get more games and learn how to not embarrass myself

On the mouse lag if you have an Nvidia card goto your control panel and on your 3D settings change "Maximum pre-rendered frames" to 0. I think the default is 3 which gets a big WTF!!? from me. The control panel claims that increasing it can give smoother gameplay at low frame rates but low frame rates means you're getting even more input delay. Honestly I haven't found a game yet where this didn't work better at 0. I thought mebbe smoother would work better but I can't stand the input delay. That might help with the mouse lag, made a big difference for me. I'm not sure what else may have been suggested in the mentioned thread, so it's probably worth a peak.
I played a little. Had to dumb down all the settings and run 800x600. It was playable, but still pretty sluggish. So I won't be doing this until I get a better video card. *sadface* But it was pretty cool and I liked how there are extra touches like shooting out the security cameras and taking hostages. The wait times and restarts on a lot of the things you have to do to create L4D style "crescendo events" are a bit contrived and some of them are lloooooonnnnngggggg which gets a bit dull, but overall it works.
I definitely like this game. The bots... totally stupid. I think the bots are more useless than in L4D. At least in L4D they aren't bad at taking out special infected. In Payday I got tasered by a guy hiding in a side office and even with all 3 bots right behind me all they would do is let me go down then pick me up to be instantly downed again, over, and over, and over... I think the only reason I got past that is everytime I revived for a split second I'd run more into the room trying to get a shot at him and eventually he just tased one of the bots instead. Jebus! Also apparently the bots do NOT help with any of the tasks such as planging explosives, pouring thermite, ect. They force you to do everything. ;-(
Sucky part about that is I really just play co-op with my GF most of the time and on rare occassions we'll be joined by my brother or a friend, but usually people's schedules don't match up very well or they aren't interested in the same games, and we don't really play with strangers. Though mebbe someday I'll convince her that at least the bro's here would be cool to play with. Actually that's a thought. We've been doing lots of Killing Floor... hmmm...
