It's incredibly lazy that, when given the opportunity to do something completely original, (with Chief floating through space to some unknown planet) they decided to just inexplicably have humans and Covenant around. Not exactly creative.

It's incredibly lazy that, when given the opportunity to do something completely original, (with Chief floating through space to some unknown planet) they decided to just inexplicably have humans and Covenant around. Not exactly creative. I have different impressions after watching the video, but either way it is too soon to tell. My take: 1) Although Covenant are still around, it does not look like they are the main antagonist of Halo 4, the forerunners (more specifically, Prometheans) are. Most of the creative elements will root from this. The video showcased a few, including enemies and weapons. 2) Just like Halo 1/2/3: In SP, when Master Chief and Cortona take the center stage, human AIs are just there to make players feel that they are not completely alone. Master Chief's sense of purpose lies in the fact that he is fighting for humanity, the story line has to make it clear that mission after mission he is doing something heroic to help humanity to survive. 3) Remember there is also a parallel story line of Spartans told through MP, consisted of competitive MP called "War Game" and cooperative MP called "Spantan Ops". It makes sense for the two story lines to intertwine in the SP. This game play footage has been considered one of the biggest highlights at E3, fans all over the internet are really pumped for it. However to see what 343 Industries can really deliver we will have to wait until 11/06. |
