An XONE exclusive, Sunset Overdrive is a Third Person Shooter of Parkour movement + crazy weapons against zombie like mutants in an open world.
It looks intriguing to me but not high on my list, because I thought it is mainly single player and there are already more games than I have time to play this fall (Destiny, Halo MC, CoD:AW), plus I strongly prefer First Person over Third Person. However, the 8 person co-op "chaos" mode does look like great MP fun:
Most likely I still won't pick up this game at launch. But if it is indeed as good as advertised, I may pick it up early next year.
Release Date: 10/28/2014

I used to have a big thing for the tony hawk games and this is definitely in the spirit of those. It's not enough to make me buy the console but this is pretty much its only exclusive that interested me. Talking about XONE exclusive, what do people think about Fable Legends? I am not a big fan of RPG so the Single Player does not interest me much. However, the innovative Multiplayer looks fun: kotaku.com/fable-legends-four-versus-one-is-a-lot-of-fun-1588259820The MP has an asymmetric 4v1 setup similar to Evolve: on the one side, 4 heroes on the ground slashing through NPCs; on the other side, a villain master mind plays the game top down, laying traps and command goblins to run after heroes. I for one will be really interested in playing the villain. The beta sign up has started: www.fablelegends.com/betasignup . Will definitely try it (if I can get in) to see if it is as interesting as it looks.

Also you should see Angry Joe's review of Fable 3.

Sunset Overdrive Gamescom footage:
Looks like an experience of stress free, mad, and humorous fun of shooting crazy enemies with creative weapons, and parkouring freely in a big open world.

This quote came from the Co-Optional Podcast episode 46 (starting from ~1:33:40). Jesse talks about his experience with Sunset Overdrive.
"They made you play with a bunch of multiplayer-like arena match-thing, and the whole concept was whoever got the highest score won the hat. I played it twice, the first time I go in there's a woman on the inter-COM thing playing with you. 'Okay, so everyone, you're going to need to grind around. Grind around, and jump on up top, you're grinding, and you're going to jump up top-. And so when you're on the ground you got to jump around- keep going.' And so I got 5th place because I was trying to listen what she was saying. I'm like 'F this s***'. I leave, come back in, get with another group. This time I stay on the ground, and don't do anything besides shoot zombies as they spawn. And she's like 'player 1 I need you to get on up', I'm like 'I'm killing zombies before they get to you, so it's all good, yeah?' She's like 'gotta grind, bro- gotta grind!' ...it was so good. She's like 'you gotta do it, you gotta do it!' She's getting more and more testy with me. 'Everyone else is grinding- you aren't grinding'. And I was like 'that's because I want to get a hat'.
A game that was specifically designed to promote it as grinding and railgliding and stuff- I got 188 more kills than anyone else. And I just sat on the ground launching rockets at zombies as they spawn. And... that, that says something. I'm not going to draw any conclusions, but that says a little bit. I was like 'thank you for the hat', and did not go back. 'I'm done. I got what I wanted.' "

Well it makes sense... unless you have a rocket, it should be easier to mow down waves of zombies.

This game's most intrigue for me is the parkouring / gliding. Just sprinting on foot shooting zombies? Aren't there already a ton of games like that out there? This guy's comment is like what I have heard from typical CoD players talking about Tianfall, saying how they can slay without parkouring. That said, my main concern about Sunset Overdrive is how appealing it can be for extended play. I am sure that it is fun to play for the first day or two, but players might get bored too quickly.

imo (and I really don't want to crush your dreams) but Saints Row 4 just does what Sunset Overdrive does, but better...and that game lasted me 2-3 days.

His statement may very well be a comment on how backwards it is to have developers tell people how their game should be played more than anything. A long while ago Jesse Cox was at the demo for Assassin's Creed IV, and the devs behind him were annoyed because he was insistent on steering a ship over the rest of the game. There are plenty of games that are all about mowing down undead hordes; it's just that the good ones managed to link up all their mechanics into a single, solid game. If Sunset Overdrive has combat and parkour elements, and ignoring the parkour element dramatically optimizes the player's combat effectiveness- then all that time spent adding that parkour element end up going to waste.

Yeah, the developers should not force players to have to do something, the gamers can always discover the best way to play the game if it is truly good. (That said:) I did not listen to the podcast or have any idea of what this guy is, but based on the excerpt looks like it is a play test. If that's the case, I do think that the test organizer does have a say of how she wants players to play the game, due to very limited time. As a software developer, I would be frustrated if we invested a lot of effort to get a bunch of users test a newly developed product, only to see they are not doing what we want to see at all. On the other hand, if it is just an "experiencing the game" session, then the lady is getting too much in the way.

I have very little game experience outside of Halo and PvP FPS so I have always been curious about the main appeal of this type of games. From my noob point of view, this game looks similar to Treyarch's CoD Zombies, which I know you love and sink a lot of times into it. What are the main differences do you see between the two?
