I didn't want to create another thread for just a little info but, download this demo (on the PS4) if you have one. I sh1t my pants. The scariest thing I've ever played, by a country mile. Here's Pt 1 Walkthrough but if you have a PS4 don't watch it first!

It's a very poorly made game. The fact a walkthrough is almost required for a speedy playthrough is sad and removes alot of the scariness.
But it is scary. Yup.

I have no idea how the game itself will play (I can only assume there's more than 'move and examine') but, I had the headset on late last night, and about 10 minutes in I was genuinely scared to peek through that door gap....
I won't be buying the game but can attest to the effectiveness of it's goal - i.e. to scare the pants off the player. It's a different approach and I could see how things may develop, in that horror genre, in the future.

I haven't played it yet, but I don't think I would say it is poorly made just because you need a walkthrough to play through quickly. That applies to Zelda games as well, among others. The fact that you don't know exactly what you're supposed to do and have to find out based on a combination of clues and brute force elimination seems entirely intentional. If you wandered around the house with a quest log and a waypoint to the next objective at every turn it wouldn't be scary at all. In fact I think you're supposed to maybe even get a little frustrated.
The game is doing a very good job of taunting and teasing players in what is ultimately a very small environment. I don't know if a larger game would hold up with just these mechanics, but then it doesn't really have to, because it's a teaser. The graphics were apparently even downgraded to make it look like it's made by an indie developer.

It is when the ultra specific puzzle solving is detracting from the sense of dread that is necessary for the horror genre.

Hmm - I know what you mean but, for me, the "stress" caused by the fear of what was coming around the corner / behind me (enhanced by the moaning, crying, flickering etc) while trying to focus and find the specific solutions enhanced the whole thing. It's not my bag at all. But it's gosh darn golly gee whiz creepy and hence, hits it's target spot on.
