Give some short opening thoughts of the game. It's going to take some time before we see how this game plays, in terms of the community, so for now just give initial impressions.
Mine?
1. The digital download was a complete clusterfvck if there ever was on. I changed and went this route, bought it for $100 and started downloading at 3pm. At 12:30am last night, I was still only at 75%. I did get playing sometime after 1am, but I was drained by then. Sad thing is, my experience was better than many others, who had to re-installs after their attempts failed.
2. Graphics? The game looks nice. I think it's a big jump from Ghosts.
3. Interface? There's a ton of stuff going on in this game, in terms of menu options and stuff to do. I'm a long time CoD Vet and I will admit to feeling a little bit overwhelmed. I've been trying to casually follow along the pre-release new stuff, but I will admit to being lost. Loot drops. Scorestreaks. I don't think I used my exo ability in any of the games, I simply forgot.
4. The game itself? I jumped in and started playing Domination games completely blind. I had a rough go of it. Played maybe 15 games grouped up and we lost maybe lost five or so? Had some decent games and some bad ones. KD ratio ended up right about 1.0 when it was all said and done. I guess this is to be expected, but it was frustrating for a few reasons. One, there's a new hitmarket mechanic, or lack of any hitmarkers. Felt very weird. It REALLY threw off my timing. Two. The verticality itself isn't a big deal, but it's 'how' people jump. It's a glorified 'MW3 teleporting knife kill' type of animation. An opponent will be in your sights, and boom, he'll suddenly go from 6mph to 100 mph, flying 20' 30', 50' away from you. It's completely unrealistic and silly. You can't hit people when they do this. I suppose it's something to get used too.
Here's the thing. TitanFall and Destiny's verticality system (jumping, shooting, being shot) seems to be more fluid. This is cartoonish rocket firing movement. At least to me, it's the knife kill animation except now with verticality. Why? A real life person moved anywhere close to those speeds, they would hit a wall and die. I know it's a game, but that fast? Maybe I need to get used to it, but it seemed a bit to much 'feast or famine'. You were either moving regular speeds or over-the-top ridiculous speeds. There seems to be no middle ground, so it didn't feel fluid like say a Titan Fall does. Maybe I didn't like it, cause it was different.
5. The maps? Just as they advertised. Lots of jumping. Tons of verticality. At least initially, I never felt really safe at any moment. This makes learning the maps even more difficult. Especially with Dom. If you want to get from pt A to pt B, you need to know the fast overhead routes and how to traverse them (jump here, then there, etc..). I knew none of this. Some opponents did. I got handled in those situations. It's that simple.
6. I really don't have an opinion. My first impressions were 'blah' (mostly due to the above issue in #4), but that may be a bit unfair to the game. I was very tired when playing. I had been up almost 21 straight hours and was a bit tired. I also was lost on the maps, and no clue how to use any of the items. We also got stuck in some games against opponents who had obviously been playing way earlier than midnight. They knew the routes way to well.
7. edit...oh yeah, plenty of faggotry with the Dom /KD whoring again. But....based on some very short looks around the menu system, I didn't see if it was possible to check out other people's combat cards. And are there leaderboards? I didn't see them. If so, that might damper down the idiocy of stat whoring.

If so, that might damper down the idiocy of stat whoring. 1. Bought the same $100 deal a few days ago on ps4. Had a countdown until 11pm central last night and it booted right up and was ready to go. 2. Game does look better than ghosts. Liked the look of the maps I played. 3. I just used the exo speed when I needed to get somewhere a little faster or in a gunfight. Tried the exo stim and still got mowed over in half a second still. It didn't give me a chance to get another shot off/ change any outcomes. 4. Game is all about the boosty stuff and I like the change but it will take some getting used to. 5. I think the game will balance out and many people are tactical loitering right now like the beginning of every game. Played mostly dom myself and ended with like a 1.22...ugh. We won probably 10/12 games. I think all the supertryhards are in dom right now. We played a few kill confirmed games and it was easy mode. 6. First impressions, better than ghosts, not sure if will be better than the rest. Time will tell. 7. It takes like 3 menus to find k/d and w/l. I also can't find how to see other players stats, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Overall, I will say the game is pretty fun, whether or not I am dying or losing a few. I never played titanfall so I can't comment on that, but I do like the new change in movement so far. Several times of going over someone and doing a 180 kill is pretty damn fun.

Seem pretty loud. But so is the jet packs going off every 3 sec. They show on the hud when you use boost and hardly anyone is running the perk that hides it. Tried parabolic mic and didn't get much for results with it.

Interface seems sleek to me, had no problem figuring where things were. There's some things I don't like about the interface, mostly the after game report and supply drops. 4. I have no problem at all with the movement. Sure the boost is fast, but you just gotta boost back, if someone double jumps, double jump back. I jumped in and felt right at home. Your mileage may vary, but I love the movement. As for the "they'd die" that's what the exo skeleton does, and they don't move that fast. That's like saying "You'd die if you went 0-60 in a Buggati" The machine takes the punishment for you, but that's neither here nor there. 5. I dunno, I felt like it made the maps easy to learn. The spawns are crap, but they're pretty easy to predict, so I tolerate them. Watch your back a lot if you stay still at all. 6. Overall I think it's a great game that really adds a bit of fresh air, even if you're still in the smoking section, if you will.

What noscreenname said, they're loud but so is everything else, and if you're not boosting you're dying. I'm willing to say Toughness isn't as good as previous CoDs. It doesn't feel like a crutch perk to me and I rarely use it, whereas I only used it in previous games.

Played 6+ hours of this game, will do detailed impressions later, for now 2 words: "painfully fun".
Fun = love the movements, fast pace, and high speed run and gun;
Painful = lowest KD ever when starting a new FPS game, 0.67. I am never a strong MP playerand KD is always mediocre, but in the past I can stay positive. For past CoD, I usually start at 0.8ish, reach 1.0+ when no longer a noob after about 4 weeks, then can get to 1.2+ after extended play. This game, I just can't win 1 on 1 gun fights. Is it because a) day zero players are the most try hard, b) I simply suck at this game, c) too tired to play this game overnight, d) I have lag issues, or e) all of the above, I can't tell at this moment.
One thing I do know is that for the first 5 hours I don't know how to power slide. It turns out this is a very big handicap, because a huge part of the gun fight is move combos. For the last hour I finally realized this and start having fun with sophisticated movements. I am still losing gun fights left and right, but I am having a lot more fun despite that.

I think some people are misreading my jumping thoughts.
I'm coming from a TitanFall/Destiny angle, which are two games with a LOT of verticality. I feel like CoD AW didn't go in their direction when trying to implement verticality. In both those games, the verticality feel very integrated/enmeshed with the fabric of the game. The verticality was all together, as one. With CoD AW, it feels very jerky. Like almost two modes, normal and 'ridiculously fast power jumping'. It's very weird, coming from months of Destiny and TF.
I should add with that, something I failed to mention. The pace of the game did seem to be more upbeat/fast than CoD Ghosts. And even considering the new map situation, people seemed to be bouncing around/moving around a lot more than what one would have expected.

I should add with that, something I failed to mention. The pace of the game did seem to be more upbeat/fast than CoD Ghosts. And even considering the new map situation, people seemed to be bouncing around/moving around a lot more than what one would have expected. My initial thoughts on the movements are: they are great. AW is quite different from Titanfall: Titanfall is mainly about parkour and wall running. Since wall running will maintain and even accelerate movement speed, the ideal goal is to "fly" over the walls with feet seldomly touching the ground, only pause when doing gun fight. During gun fight, movement is not a central element, and it feels pretty close to past CoD. Yes, you can use jump and double jump, but they don't give you significant advantages. AW is the opposite in this sense: when moving from point A to point B, all you need beyond the traditional movement system is the double jump to overcome verticality (which is pretty much what Destiny is doing). It is not very fancy. When it comes to gun fight however, boost movements are critical: boost left/right/forward/backward slide, seamlessly combined with the double jump, can create some rather interesting "move combos". The gun flight is now much more complex: not only you need to aim and hit the enemy while controlling the recoil, but also need to do so while performing complex movements. It is a new world that is very different from past CoD and Titanfall. I would not call this "jerky", it is a significant innovation (good or bad still TBD) in FPS. I was completely unaware of this for 5 out of the 6 hours I played, needless to say that I got pwned hard. For the last hour, I finally discovered this and can do much better on the movement side. The aiming and shooting side is still very crappy, which will be my main focus the next time I play. Just my 2 cents.

There's the crappy "mute all" option that mutes all the current players, but as new ones file in you have to do it over and over. I forgot how bad PS4 voice chat is. Everybody's mic makes weird buzzing noises, everyone sounds like they're underwater. That shit seems like it's behind even the OG Xbox.
Pings were all over the place, lots of janky killcams.
Graphics are decent, better than Ghosts for sure. Single player looks pretty good, multiplayer looks less good, but frame rate is rock solid. Good design choice. Graphics tech obviously a step behind something like Battlefield 4 though.
Single player on Veteran is to some extent the same old shit, peak your head out and you're immediately absorbing left and right hooks while somebody throws strawberry jam into your eyes. The more stealthy/breachy parts work a lot better.
Win/loss was glitched, played multi for 90 minutes or so, game claimed I went 6-38. In reality I think I played maybe 10 games.
Personally I had real troubles hearing footsteps in this game so far. Really only hearing them when I'm directly above or below players. I hit the stealth exo once and didn't hear a guy running a few feet behind me. Might be getting distracted by environmental noises.
Not enjoying the killstreaks at all. The sentry gun is now a remote turret that doesn't shoot at all if you don't take direct control of it? Wtf. UAV seems to be the only good streak that I have unlocked. The Warbird or whatever kind of sucks.
Preload worked fine on PS4, only jankiness was that the countdown was an hour off because people don't understand DST. But that got patched before launch. Kind of disappointing though, thought I'd get to play an hour early!
Not sure if this game is going to hold my interest for that long. But we'll see. I was super-tired when playing my first session, but I needed to have that 12 players all level 1 the second the game launches feel.

Here are my initial thoughts after having been playing MP since Thu.
The players that can jump and shoot on target tend to do very well. I'm not the most dexterous player so I really just use the boosting to get into position/escape rather than as an integrated part of my attack.
railgunners are out in full force going 12-11, and everyone of their kills seems to be on me, lol. But seriously, I'm going to learn to snipe for the first time in my CoD career. The high risk/high reward of OHKs in a game like this with higher BTK might be fun.
It appears SHG prefers unbalanced weapons. I just don't see how a 3-4 BTK semi is even remotely competitive against full autos when given the low recoil of the weapons and the constant movement. Then you have a high RPM low recoil BAL that has the same damage profile as the higher recoil lower RPM HBRa3. Then when you factor in the variants...SHG "balanced" them by making them strong in one area and weak in another. But what if that "weak" area can be easily compensated with a perk or attachment? And they're random. And they're redundant giving you things you already have in your Armory. I've gotten like 10 MP11s in Supply Drops but only one ASM1 and no HBRa3s. I'd rather grind for the Elite version of my fave weapons than to hope that I get it in a SD before XMas.
I'm not seeing excessive tactical loitering. Sure, there's always that guy that sits in that corner, but been a lot of movement. Been playing Dom, TDM, & FFA to unlock stuff before I switch over to my main mode, KC, and also give Momentum a try.

Yes the parkour in TF is so fluid and intuitive that it makes me want to wall run in every first person game I play now and I'm always sad when I can't. I think for AW they didn't want to up normal movement speeds and spread the game out on the scale of TF so they opted to make the jumping more of a special move type of thing. I've only played a little SP so far, so I've not really formed any opinions as of yet, other than in the very first mission in SP with no upgrades the flinch is unfuckingbelievable...! heh I put a point in that for sure after I finished the level so hopefully that helps. Hope it's not that bad in MP.

Someone explain the supply drops and weapon variants to me. I don't really know what these are, how they operate, and how to get them. Easy. Supply drops are a Foxtroting mystery. No one has a clue. Weapon variants are just that. It's the same base weapons, with different camos, attachments and or stats. I know of someone who had an Ameli that did more damage, but had half the magazine size. Seriously, for now they're a mystery, I have no clue how to get them. Also I'm doing some very basic testing on some guns. NA45 and Lynx are two hit on everything but head (NA45 has explosive capabilities), MORS is just groin to head, no arms. Atlas 20mm is a OHK knee up, including hands. MK14 can 2 HK with just one headshot. Tac-19 must have insane spread reduction, it can OHK almost to the end of its range if you ADS. That's all I have so far.

UAV seems to be the only good streak that I have unlocked. The Warbird or whatever kind of sucks. All of those streaks can be upgraded. For example, for 200 more points the remote turret becomes the traditional Sentry Gun.

The sentry thing completely befuddled me a few times. I dropped one like three times, and each time is just sat there.....and did nothing. Opponents ran up to it and destroyed it. WTF??? It was only today that I read a bit, and found out the AI-controlled Sentry has to be upgraded too.
Lots of little things I need to learn.

Perks. Maybe it's just my style of play, but there are 3 perks in each tier that outclass the others. Low Profile, Peripherals, & Blast Suppressor. It's not that the others suck, it's just that they're more situational while these 3 apply all the time. Maybe a case can be made for Low Profile as the UAV spam may die down as time goes on, but having a larger mini-map and and not showing up on the radar every 3 seconds (I use the boost that much) is just too good.

So far this thread isn't selling me on it lol... I don't think anything could be determined either way after one night(even a few more) It's just way to soon. Got to see how things develop. It is very different. So on that front, SH delivered.

The side strafe/Power dash can only be done left or right or back....never forward. It's basically done by double tapping/pushing the left stick in that direction.
I don't think I did a single one of them last night.
