You can strafejump/bhop Quake 3 style in Advanced Warfare in the exo-enabled game modes. Not Quake 1 or CPMA style with aircontrol -- now THAT would be pretty fucking cool. There's some momentum killer on classic modes if you try to jump. I didn't ever try bhop in other CoDs but I gathered CoD4 had some neat jump physics too.
You have to time jumps pretty precisely, and uneven ground complicates it. If you press jump right before touching the ground you just superjump. Even if the boost is used up there's no input buffer, so you'll just hit the ground walking if you press too early. I think I've managed to maintain momentum off a superjump, but I'm not totally sure because I couldn't consistently time the landing. I haven't fiddled with scripts or turbo button stuff but they could probably be used to some effect. Lateral boosts kill your momentum when you hit the ground. The laser works excellently with bhop, and you don't need gung ho either because you don't lose momentum when exiting sprint midair. However I'm pretty sure you gain momentum faster with higher ground movespeed so YMMV. Similarly, you can start up with knife/pistol for higher speed, sprint and switch to some other weapon. ADS technically works too, but I find it pretty disorienting.

I remember people doing this all the time in COD4, mostly due to the Old School (higher jumping) game mode. It allowed them to get to some really cool spots - but damn was it tough as hell. I could never get the hang of it.

The difference is now you can bhop too and gain speed on each bounce, if I understand CoD4's physics right.

This sort of sounds like bounce jumping without needing a sloped surface. Like mouse said it would be awesome if you could put together a video. I remember CoD1 having CS-esque bhopping before one of the later patches, but I don't think we've had anything remotely like that aside from bounce jumps and strafing.

You can Bhop, but not Quake era Bhop. It took me the exact same time to Bhop as it did Sprinting.

After playing around more I can say it's possible to gain momentum per hop, but very hard to as a result of the lack of an input buffer and low jump height. When you have height to work with and gain momentum it's much harder to time the hop correctly and not lose to friction. When you have level ground it's still pretty hard to not lose to friction, and you don't get much height to accelerate without superjump. Nonetheless with a little effort it's feasible to do things like outrun an SMG with a heavy weapon. I was hardly good at bhop in other Quake-engine games but I'm pretty confident in what I'm saying.
