Ok, so the old ps3 is giving me some issues. 250gb Slim ps3 bought early 2011'ish. I keep getting 80010038 error codes when downloading practically any game from the store now. I mostly play on ps4 but the kids are tripping that the hand me down box is giving issues. I have done restore system, recoverys, and even just did a full system wipe to see if that would help with no luck. Now I have deleted some games that I purchased and can't even install them after download. The natives are getting restless to say the least. Does it sound like I need to install a new hardrive or is this thing just toast?
Plz Halp!

When it comes to tech support in general I often find it more useful to browse forums for some potential answers. A lot of cases you'll end up getting ear medicine for your sore throat, in which case the quickest way to get things done is to just head to the website for your given product and get a professional on the case. I'd recommend heading there first.

Yeah, getting mixed opinions from reading forum posts on the topic for sure. But basically the official tech support from sony says to follow the same steps: go into safe mode, restore, ect. Only here or there on a random site have I found people suggest that the hdd will eventually go bad. I see I can get a 500gb hdd for $50 and wonder if that should be my next step. If I was sure that would fix it I would hop on in but don't want to just flush $50 if I thought it could be something software related. After the error code pops up it always shows a folder that says corrupt data btw.

Put a 1tb toshiba drive in last night. Seems to have fixed the problem. Just posting this in case anyone else gets this error and can't fix it.
