... First and foremost: The hardcore modes are exactly as popular as the softcore modes, and HC search and destroy actually more popular than the softcore version.
I'm throwing in a defense for the noob tube haters here...
with a question... What is the kill range of a grenade launcher explosion in hardcore?
and how about with sonic boom?
as for softcore... How many cars are there to shoot with the M203, and how hard is it to hit a car on medium range?
The main point is hardcore, anyway.
I know weapons aren't balanced for hardcore... but... DAMN.

The 25 damage minimum - the enemy has to be within 288 inches of its maximum 300 range to kill a player with 30 Health.
A car is a car, they are not affected by the player health change. In order to immediately detonate a car, the launched grenade would just about have to strike a car directly (compared to a frag which can almost immediately set off a car at any range of its blast). Given the lack of depth perception on a screen, angling the shallow-falling grenade in small minutes of angle is much more daunting than the wide angle, long arc and large effective radius of the frag against cars.

30 damage with the nade launchers would be achieved at 7.2115385 meters. sonic boom would kill at 7.5 meters which is only about 1 more foot than without sonic boom (.9463696125 feet) edit: looks like den finished his post before me

So... the diameter of the killing blast is of M203s is 14 meters in hardcore, 15 meters with sonic boom -- compared to 4 meters and 4.5 meters in softcore, compared to the frag grenades' 10 meters in softcore and 12.5 meters in hardcore.
Which means I'm rolling 4x M203 and 1x frag instead of 3x frags in hardcore, next time...
