How does it work?
All I know is it goes to a maximum of 200, and the more of a "team player" you are, the better it is.
So what are the factors that go into determining this? A formula? Anything, Den?
Thanks in advance.

But wait, what exactly are the variables?
KDR? W/L Ratio? Assist points? etc.?

I always thought it had to something to do with a percentile being multiplied by two, which would explain why the bottom rank is zero and the top is 200.

A friend of mine basically gave me this summary of how Elo works within Chess. Would this be a safe assumption to how it also works in BC2?
"You gain 'skill' for killing people, you gain more points for killing someone the more skill they have above you, and conversely you gain progressively less for killing someone lower than you? Whatever points you earn from killing someone, they lose the same amount."
But it seems a bit shallow to base it solely on kills. I was thinking there would be some kind of "teamwork" element in it?

Demize said on his twitter that it was a stat based primarily on k/d ratio, but also factored in many other behind the scenes things like assists, revives, resupplies, defuses, repairs, etc.
It would make sense. My skill level is pretty high (198) and I'm always playing my class role effectively because I like lots of points. Got a k/d of about 1.66 too.

Not sure about k/d ratio. If I play as a spotting sniper, I get a great k/d but almost always skill goes down. If I get in the thick of it and kill, kill, kill, but k/d goes down, skill goes up. At this stage im thinking its more likely linked to kills / minute.

It factors in literally nothing else. Play a game against a team of friends, don't kill them, they never kill you, no matter what else you do, your SL# will NEVER change.

^There has to be more to it than that. My friend who plays is a great team player, always going for the objective and playing his kit very effectively, but his k/d is weaksauce and is near 1/1. Yet his skill level is 199. Higher than mine even, even though my k/d is much better.
Another friend of mine has a k/d near mine, but doesn't always play his kits effectively or go for the objective a lot. His skill level is around 182.
Another friend of mine leaves games a lot... which causes his skill level to drop.
I believe there's more to it than meets the eye,

The fact that it's kill based doesn't mean there aren't other factors that influence the amount of change that happens with every kill. Kills near objectives could be weighted Kills when winning/losing could be weighted Bonus for vehicle kills could factor in somewhere etc The whole system could still be kill based, but get mucked up because they add bonuses or penalties to a kill. This could remove the zero-sum result that is supposed to be part of the Elo system.

I only kill near objectives, or else I'm sneaking into them, and I have a 5+ W/L, so kills while winning aren't weighted, and I have 500 vehicles destroyed, mostly with C4, so that isn't weighted either. I have a low kills per minute, but a realitvely good SPM, because I get lots of bonuses, yet my SL still isn't very high. I am 100% certain it is only ELO of your K/D, if you kill a higher elo, yours goes up, if you kill a lower elo, yours goes up less. If a lower elo kills you, it goes down more, if a higher elo kills you it goes down less.
