Hi
just wondering something about the dogs in COD5, when i played the beta i used to always follow the dogs as they seemed really good at locating the enemy. Now in the full game dogs seem more useless and when ever i follow them they just seem to run into dead ends or keep doubling back on themselfs even when no enemy players are dying. Were the dogs nerfed to be worse at tracking or something?
also i read on cod4 that the chopper targeted the highest scoring player and did things like attack players that shot at it. do the dogs have anything like this or do they just run around randomly and attack random people?
cheers.

While the helicopter had a lot of stuff dictating its decision making, targeting and behavior, the dogs are, almost naturally, much more simple.
Basically, a Dog Call sends out eight dogs. Only four dogs can be on the map at a time, the other four are reserves for when an existing one is fragged.
The Dogs will jump into the area from one of a few entry points, often close to the allied spawn and/or just outside of enemy spawn points. They will "track" (move to) the spawn point and spread out from there. The pathing on some maps may be deliberate or just unsupporting; the dogs will sniff out the enemy (but really, they know exactly where all of the enemies are) and will usually circle around structures and such.
If an enemy is in sight, a dog will often head straight for him, and by "straight" I mean "follow the path nodes until they get to the closest one then break off to attack".

hmm well the last dog i followed it was on outskirts and the server player count was low....i thnk there was only about 3 enemy on the server. The map is quite big and the other team were tactical loitering so i thought following the dogs might help.....it ran to the edge of the map....stoped and ran back to the middle.....then ran back to edge....when i saw the blips on the map from gunfire the enemy were on the other side of the map! usless dog.
I've also seen enemy dogs run right past me and attack players quite a bit futher away from me.
thats why i thought there was more to them but maybe its just bugs and bad path finding.
