I am a big fan of suppressed automatic weapons, and I was curious about how you guys feel about the AK-47 with a silencer. Obviously the damage reduction and low ROF are issues, but it still has a max damage of 40 (M4 and G36c are only 30) with more range than a silenced MP5 or AK-74u (500-1000 vs 350-700). Do these qualities redeem it in any way, or is it absolute trash?

What makes it shine is its non-obtrusive iron sights. It's a good weapon to use silenced because of this. Without the drop in damage with the RDS and Silencer, it'd probably be overpowered just like the ol' M16. It's still a great weapon to use silenced, but if you can master the sights on weapons like the M4 and the M16, you'd be better off.

i have always picked between the ak47 silenced and the m16, but this way 4 HC mostly and i'm really gd with the m16 sights, but the ak47 4 100hp wid a silencer really does own all if u can't get on with the iron sights of the m16 or m4

I probably should have posed a different question (instead of "Is it trash?") Can the silenced AK compare to other silenced automatics, assuming that the player is great with all of them?

Answer: Yes.
However, through personal experience I've found that it seems to feel rather weak even if it isn't. It probably has something to do with it's sound, it's not as air-splitting as the M4 or M16 which mentally makes it feel weaker.

All of the suppressed assault rifles (and the AK-74u) sound exactly the same...

No they don't. Call me a nerd or whatever but I can tell what gun someone is using from the sound it makes, even when suppressed.
This excludes M21, M14, and something else I've forgotten as of now... *facepalm*

They sound different due to differences in ROF, but the individual shots sound exactly the same. And you were probably thinking of M40 and R700.

That may be the case in real life but I'm fairly sure the game engine doesn't account for bullet speed and how quickly it comes out of the chamber and the recurring vibrations it'll make.
No, simply firing 1 AK47 silenced bullet against 1 M4 silenced bullet, I can tell the difference.
And yes, it was ^_^

The silenced AK47, M4, M14, M16, G36c, G3 and AK-74u all use the "weap_m4silenced_fire" fire sound.
The four remaining submachineguns have individual silenced sounds.
