Most people think that shotguns are underpowered and rightfully so after seeing the AA12 and the Akimbos in MW2.
However in Blops there is one shotgun that stands out for me: Spas-12 + silencer.
The main reason is that the silencer actually doesn't reduce range or damage thus it feels that the silenced range is actually about the same as the silenced range of the SPAS in MW2, while still having the advantage of being semi auto.
I've been running it in my run and gun class with a fair amount of success as the spas kills fast, thus drawing very little attention of the enemy, as well as there are a lot of tight spaces in blops that negate the range disadvantage.
I'm running it with lightweight / steady aim / marathon, along with a crossbow
I'm wondering if anyone else has been running it / what setups you guys are using?
Also: You are my bro, bro!

I'm still put off of the shotguns from an early expericence with the Olympia... point blank hit markers are fun

I love it, just started using it 2 nights ago and was pleasantly surprised. I don't see what all the fuss is about...

I generally play Domination. I consider myself a dedicated COD player, though I am not that good. I sported a 1.1 K/D in MW2 and am now on my first prestige with about 1.1 K/D in Blops. Last night, I played a few hours with the setup I describe below. I was averaging about 25kills/10deaths. I found the setup quite amazing.
Ghost Pro (consider Flack Jack for grenade heavy maps) Steady Aim (a must for this build) Marathon (though I can see this working well with Ninja as well)
SPAS-12+Silencer Frag Flashbangs MOTION DETECTOR equipment
Strategy: Set a motion detector near a domination checkpoint and patrol. I was successful in defending against 3-4 people rushing at the same time.
Your worst enemy there is someone running Ninja - however, so few people use that perk and even if they do, shotgun close quarters is dominant.
I have tried all other shotguns - SPAS-12 is the only one I found to be successful.

- You should try SOH instead of steady aim, IMO, fast damage drop over range make tighter spread not that much important. - I Don't find ghost to be very useful, as i rush non-stop with SPAS. In fact i dont use it the same way than you do, i use SOH so i never stop running and finding targets, and i end up with meh kdr (like 25/20), but usually on top of the board and having a lot of fun

I think the standard LW Pro, SA Pro, Marathon Pro setup has the most synergy for rushing, though you have to choose your reload spots wisely.

The more I play with the silenced SPAS, the more I love it. Shotties are gimped in BO compared to MW2, but the silenced SPAS is quite unique. None of the silenced MW2 shotties were as good as it. It's a good weapon in it's own right. Ghost Pro (consider Flack Jack for grenade heavy maps) Steady Aim (a must for this build) Marathon (though I can see this working well with Ninja as well) SPAS-12+Silencer Frag Flashbangs MOTION DETECTOR equipment This is very similar to my setup, but I used decoys. Also, an infinitely more fun thing to do is use the Camera Spike instead of Motion Detector. It's not as effective (Motion Detector is so good), but it is so much more fun putting the camera in an obvious spot looking at an entrance to a room and hiding along side out of view. People instinctively go to the camera instead of clearing the room first, leaving you to silently shotgun them in the back. It's such a delicious honey pot.

I run my SPAS class with Ghost over the other perks. I think what a lot of people forget is that many people will instinctively hunt down your red dot on the radar. With the spy plane as prevalent as it is right now, and with the shotguns being (relatively) underpowered, the last thing you want to do is get dropped on because someone followed your blip. As a shotgunner, you have to work a lot harder and leaving yourself open to a spy plane will make you open season for anyone that can fire longer than shotgun range.

I tested it extensively with SOH. I did like the fast reload but my kills were not as precise. I will perhaps test it more. As everyone knows, latency plays a large role. I just felt like the hit detection was so much better with SA. I also tend to think that the Pro aspect of SA benefits shotguns more than the Pro aspect of SOH. I think the standard LW Pro, SA Pro, Marathon Pro setup has the most synergy for rushing, though you have to choose your reload spots wisely.

I cannot agree with this more. I cannot justify to myself (given my playstyle) using any Tier 1 perk other than Ghost. And Ghost Pro gets oh so much better too. On my next prestige, I'm only unlocking ghost and maybe hardline for when I get bored. Flack Jacket is quite nice, but if I am not Ghosting, I might as well get those 2 shot spyplanes everywhere.... so I never really get to Flack Jacket. I run my SPAS class with Ghost over the other perks. I think what a lot of people forget is that many people will instinctively hunt down your red dot on the radar. With the spy plane as prevalent as it is right now, and with the shotguns being (relatively) underpowered, the last thing you want to do is get dropped on because someone followed your blip. spas silenced w/crossbow too i use lightweight because i usually run with sam turrent too scavenger to refill crossbow mainly, but it also lets me spray a little more with the spaz marathon to get to tight areas faster agreed, spaz silencer is possibly one of the top tier weapons when used correctly, and IMO best shotgun

I'll usually swap out Marathon for Hacker because I use this setup to rush and don't like ruining a good killstreak by running into claymores, motion sensors, or other tactical loitering supplies.
(Though if you're giving up Marathon, Lightweight is almost a must so that you retain the ability to chase-down oblivious enemies.)

I've had some nice success with the SPAS-12 Silenced, specifically with defending CQC flags or objectives. (for example, defending the middle flag on Cracked Domination)

My advice... Use Lightweight Pro, Steady Aim Pro, and Ninja (pro if you have it ) Don't ADS. Don't fight people straight on. Replace your secondary as soon as you get your first kill. Be stealthy and don't enter open spaces.
